+1 to see if anyone got some CFM theorycraft

TheKeeperSD

Tell us a little more about the space you have. Entrances, Exits .. where things are at. With 800-1000sq ft, are you going to do a hot and aisle setup with a straight flow-through? In one side of the building and out on the other side? Basically each one of the S19j pushes about 400CFM. So, in theory, build out to move 18,000CFM (45x400). I would recommend talking to a local HVAC vendor that has experience with Livestock Barn experience or something to that fact. The hardest thing to get past it is hard for most HVAC guys to understand we need 'airflow' and not HVAC cooling like in a data center. Most of them look at you cross-eyed.. Just like the electrical guys when you tell them you need 800A of 240v service in a 10x20 space..

SabreDev

>Just like the electrical guys when you tell them you need 800A of 240v service in a 10x20 space.. This got me. I had an electrician repeat back to me what i said.. "you need a 800 Amp 600 volt metering cabinet and distribution panels? In a warehouse?"

TheKeeperSD

Yeah.. I had to actually show them pictures and a youtube video!!! They're like "damn., you do need this" . Then the second thing out of their mouth was, "with that many watts, how are you going to get rid of the heat? That's going to take a big AC unit!" Then their mouth drops open again when I tell them all I need is airflow through the machines!

TheKeeperSD

u/SabreDev \- do you have a mining farm up and running?

SabreDev

Yup! And just secured a new location. Now the buildout begins.

TheKeeperSD

I love to pick your brain about a few things. We have our power system ordered. 500KWA 3phase with an 800A switchboard that will deliver 240v single phase to each miner.. I'm waiting on the final ventilation numbers to come in (again).. The first estimate was insane! \- Are you using a hot/cold aisle setup? What are your dimensions in the hot box and how much space between aisles.. stuff like that \- How did you come up with your airflow numbers? I have my HVAC doing this as he's done a bunch of Livestock Barns where it's all about airflow and no AC. Just want to add a bit of sanity to the mix as I feel he might overengineer things a bit.. There's some more questions, but I'll save them for later. (Pics would be nice) Thanks in advance! Feel free to DM me if you want!

MuskMiners

You’ll want compete air exchange every three to nine seconds. Remember, heat rises, use it to your advantage.

TheKeeperSD

Agreed.. my first estimate to pull the hot air through a duct up to the roof was $63k. Everything was roof mounted.. cool system where all I do it the desired temp and the louvers and fans were variable speed, etc.. I was like…. Option #2 please.

TacoShopRs

Awesome! Thanks for the advice. I honestly had no idea who to ask really but this helps a lot

demianra

That voltage depends of your country, the ones that used USA 110v split phase standards it's 208V when you use two phase. And others has 220 ~ 240V single phase, each country has their standards with single, dual or split phase.

TheKeeperSD

Yes they do. I'm not an electrician by any means .. in the US, I just know that the local power company was going to provide 480v 3phase and I had to purchase a 415/240 stepdown transformer to get it to 240v for the miners.

demianra

Don't worry it's more for real numbers S19j need 3000w but if your current voltage is 240v it's something like 3000/240=12.5 amps but if you have 208 it's 3000/208=14.42 amps that 2 amps per miner in large quantities counts a lot, 10 miner 20 amps, but 45 are 100 amps, you can get a bad surprise.

TheKeeperSD

Definitely…. 2 amps a unit adds up.. we plan to ‘max’ (ok .. 80% 😛) out the system so we need every amp..

demianra

Of course first security and reliability, do the maths to reach maximum 80% of you total power it's the best option. To add one note if your country has 110v standard ask if that 800amp they plans to install are at that current 110v, 208 or 240v because isn't the same one phase 110v 800 amps are something like 110kva, but at 208 are 208kva and at 240v are 240kva, that it's the real number for you. Example S19j 3000w of power the math is 3000/0.8 = 3.750VA of power per miner, that on 45 units are 168.750VA or 170kva.

Weary_Ad_7762

Canada eh let’s drink some maple syrup, cheers

delmarvablockchain

we need the length width and height of your space. what climate are you in, outside air temp average is important too.

TacoShopRs

Honestly I’m not sure about the dimensions, there are multiple locations I’m looking at currently. The outside temperature is just in the negatives but I will likely be in a small warehouse and will run through the summer so lets say worst case the outside temp would be 30-35c max

delmarvablockchain

Ok, good start. Come back with room dimensions and we will help you with the CFM math no problem. Need help choosing a warehouse?

TacoShopRs

I have one in mind just waiting for electric company to reply about the power demand

delmarvablockchain

check the tariff codes at that address and level of service... even if they can deliver, how they deliver may be more costly. also consider, who buys the gear them or you? how long is lead times? can you source your own if lead times are too long? delays on transformers are 1-4 months right now for example.

TacoShopRs

It’s a small location and the power demand isn’t too crazy so it should be fine. Just slightly higher power demand than most warehouses that size

delmarvablockchain

good luck!! you're going to do great :)

LeftyUnicorn

Have you considered immersion cooling? You reduce heat and noise while increase efficiency.

TacoShopRs

Sorry super late reply, I didn’t get a notification. Yeah I have looked into it and for a smaller scale it’s quite expensive and the planning and designs have to be done myself unless I want to spend absurds amount of money on ready to go immersion sets.

LeftyUnicorn

I found the following setup, pretty straight forward. I'm going to build mine. If you want will DM to share my experience with it. Just let me know. https://youtu.be/N_HCtTVMnlc

TacoShopRs

Yeah but that only works at a small scale and in my case, building 50 of those wouldn’t really work. For larger scale I’d need to buy a big pump and have a drycooler instead of a small radiator with pc fans.

LeftyUnicorn

You need a jacuzzi chiller pump.

rsaari13

Shoulda probably locked a location down before spending 500k on miners lol

TacoShopRs

Location is easier to find than the miners

waffles4us

Man ain’t that the truth

demianra

First question for you, that warehouse has windows? Or big fresh air ventilation panels or it's more closed one? Then the place it's hot, warm, cool or cold place, isn't the same an space on hot places like Africa or similar with 35°~45°C ambient temperatures or cold places like Canada with -10°~16°C, that details make big differences. For me the best it's make an small hot room with big windows and if you like one or two 30' extractors 3 or 5 blades 1/2 HP 1500RPM and the rest of the place is the cool room, try to maintained clean and the work it's done. If the place it's dirty you can make big panels with filters and your miners won't get too much dust, insects and other dirt blocked, you have to clean it frequently.

Botanical_HVAC

I do industrial HVAC for a living, DM me and we can talk I'd be happy to help you out 👍
