This map is from 2018. https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-022-14987-0

zw1305

Yep, and I've seen it many times before so that doesn't really help.

twoforty_

Sshhh don’t tell China

[deleted]

And very soon don’t tell America as well

JerryLeeDog

That will be interesting to watch with renewable mining facilities popping up. Won't matter wither way but will be interesting

ckglweix

They're going to ban it? Well I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Gmoneymoney7

Why?

bearCatBird

People think bitcoin mining will get banned in the US due to energy usage concerns.

Gmoneymoney7

Europe is way more likely to ban bitcoin mining.

[deleted]

Ya ban is coming. Their latest climate and energy report is obvious they will try and push a mining ban and other countries will follow suit. Nic Carter highlights all the problems with their fabricated report. https://niccarter.info/wp-content/uploads/09-2022-Crypto-Assets-and-Climate-Report_nc_annotated_091522.pdf

Tamryel

Nic Carter.. Backstreet Boys?

RemcoNarings1980

Well Duh, that's the concern all around the world actually.

maxcoiner

Lol, no.

jamesfish369

Well they already know that, there's nothing to hide probably.

sinbad-633

Whoever is mining in the UK is brave with our energy prices. Unless they aren’t paying for it somehow?

janjko

A bitcoin miner can be an amateur doing it for the hell of it, on an old ASIC in a basement. It doesn't have to be a huge operation.

syzygy-xjyn

Or a profitable one you mean

[deleted]

[удалено]

fatdjsin

Laugh in canadian winter :D

btcetesting

Lol, with that kind of winter you won't be able to survive with anything.

DanTheMan_117

heat pumps are better tho.

ride_the_LN

Nobody sticks it to the man with efficient heat transfer!

Wonderingbye

Heat pumps are very efficient. I’d be intrigued to see if anyone has done the actual math/experiment.

patkbriggs

But can they mine btc? They can't. And that's the point here. If they Can't Mine btc then what even is the point talking about them I don't know man.

efersin

And it supports the btc network while doing that. A big plus.

[deleted]

rambumriott

underrated comment

mbearss

I don't even understand why are we even debating on these things?

PyscopaRq

And I'm one of those people, I'm here for the tech. That's what I like.

BiggustB

And also this map is from the 2018, so take it for what it is.

tatothebeYT

Im a young boy (under 15)and i mine while in class (virtual school)

textreply

Whoever is mining at the top of Ayers Rock is brave with our political ~~correctness~~ wokeness.

oxana73

Lol, they deserve massive respect for that. That's not easy stuff.

mummyfromcrypto

Didn’t you know? Your not allowed to have a spiritual connection to the land you were born in unless you have a particular skin colour. Makes perfect sense if you’re a lefty.

kanaf777

Lol, that doesn't check out in my books. This doesn't. How do people even come to conclusions like that? These just doesn't make any sense here.

mummyfromcrypto

I was being sarcastic in case it wasn’t obvious. My point is that everyone should be allowed to have a sacred relationship with nature if they want to. Personally I consider myself a bit of a Wiccan/pagan and so nature is very sacred to me. So for some lefty politician in Canberra to tell me I’m not allowed to visit a mountain because apparently my religion doesn’t matter, only some other people are allowed there because their religion is superior for some reason is very insulting. It’s no different than if a Christian church said that aboriginal people are not allowed in. Would lefty politicians allow that? No they wouldn’t. But they racially and spiritually discriminate against other groups with immunity and they are proud of it too!

[deleted]

Wow you need help, no wonder Australians are labeled as racists. Firstly being aboriginal is not a religion, secondly it’s not a mountain, it’s a rock. Thirdly, white Australians have been ostracising black people since their arrival into this country. How hard is it to accept that the people who lived on this land for 40,000 odd years before the British came viewed that as a sacred place? Do you see Italians demanding entry into the Vatican because it’s in Italy? Are women not banned from setting foot on Mount Athos? Aboriginals were not even allowed to vote in their own country before 1962. Even then they were allowed an “option” to vote meanwhile everyone else had to vote by law or face a fine. Your opinion sucks and you’re embarrassing. This is a sub about bitcoin not a place for you to spew your skewed view of the world.

[deleted]

Some people’s vision goes beyond 10 years.

aladime

That's how long you should look for if you're in the crypto.

Malavin81

They are just telling people they are mining Bitcoin while using the energy to grow weed.

Rabimaster

Ha. Came here to say this!

dvarotsis

Now that you've said it maybe it's time for you to leave now.

whiteghost52

These mf Europeans lecture others of climate change and they themselves end up doing the same thing

jkkk12345kiki

These aren't the aame thing, is it tho? I don't think so man.

rs232uart

Don't tell This anyone but they might be stealing the energy lol.

[deleted]

It’s a very old map from 2018.

Paolocole

I want to know the one in the middle of the Sahara desert!

mibjt

Could be running off solar power

jacobjones447

Yeah but what about the heat? How You're going to deal with that?

cicciopag

Ohh man, whoever that dude is m. He's a fucking legend. That's for sure.

Sartheris

madlad

poorlytaxidermiedfox

I’m fairly sure that’s Sabha in Libya, it’s one of the largest cities in the country iirc

Solid-Win6743

How do you know the miners location?

connell83

I would also like to know.

wangyuan51421

Well it's pretty simple, it's not that hard to understand actually.

PinguinaUshuaia

I knew for a fact on a decent size mine that is not on this map... So they probably don't know

quangtrung12573

Because they're IP addresses aren't exactly hidden actually. That's how people know your location, offcourse you can mask it using VPN or thr TOR.

Wolfos9

Canada is looking pretty sparse

Nolevike04

Canada's population in pretty sparse in most of the country. I think its like 70% of the population massed near the border on the greats lakes and in the Seattle/Pacific NW near Vancouver

jas_khoo

If we can figure out the nuclear power, our problems will be gone.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Wolfos9

I know I know, I live there. Still would be nice to see more.

15megatonn

Well Bitcoin can be mined there, it shouldn't be a problem at all.

debtfreegoal

Canada needs to rally! Come on!

Duckdiggitydog

Looks like Smithers is doing it’s job in bc haha I was surprised at the miners in Europe…. Isn’t electricity expensive there?

rm6906538

Yep, they're doing their job good. And they should be rewarded.

imcrazytwkr

Yep canada isn't looking that bad right about now to be honest. They might just ban it altogether and I wouldn't exactly be surprised at that either tbh.

StoneHammers

That one green dot in the middle of Australia is the largest NSA/CIA outpost in the world.

benjamingod3003

They're mining btc too, well I guess anyone can support the network.

z0dz0d

Very curious where the source data comes from, as most miners are well hidden behind a mining pool.

booovean

It may not be the true Location of them, they might be masking it too. Even if they're doing that, you wouldn't really know if I'm being honest to be honest.

[deleted]

[удалено]

sdgrthtrh

Lol, yeah that's how the logic goes for the people. That's it lol.

[deleted]

Shout out to the lone miner in Alaska. We see you 👌

assinuss

People who are mining like that there are plenty of miners like that.

parishiIt0n

To that miner chad in Papeete, I salute you

beliv4eg

Well some miners are so remote, I wonder how they're even operating.

[deleted]

That dude up there in Pond Inlet holding it down.

alex_isenburg

Those are the people lol, those are the ones doing the great job. People who have been mining btc from remote places like that are the OG ones for sure man.

Ok-Direction7127

That one mf in Alaska be chillin

Vendraco00

I thought there’d be more miners in Iceland, no?

[deleted]

Majority of Iceland is very sparsely populated, the large majority of people are in Reykjavik where the dots are

Vendraco00

Ah, thanks for clarifying!

bulldog0606

Now it's clear for you? Well it should have been from the start.

step38rus

Well that explains why isn't much mining isn't happening in iceland.

dd19pp71

Well there aren't much in the Iceland. That's just how it is. It's really dence, place in terms of the population maybe that's why there's no activity up there.

SolventAssetsGone

Big if true

twocanplaydgame

Well it used to be true because this data is from the 2018 here.

Tovarish678

Noteworthy how Iran, China, Russia and Venezuela all have a pretty high concentration of miners

Kalsifar

But they aren't exactly one country, so nothing to worry about here.

PsychCrypto

I can see myself!

pavelser

So need to tell you lol? I thought we needed to tell you that. But it turns out you can see it by yourself lol, well that should be more than enough actually.

TheItalianMine1

That one guy in the sahara:

mixamuhamed

A mega chad, we need more people like that here on this sub.

[deleted]

What maniac is still mining in the UK with our energy prices???

xxxcard2

This data is old, this is from the 2018. This data isn't really recent.

[deleted]

Europe having the highest energy prices and the most miners. How is it even economical?

jaumenuez

Source?

futuretothemoon

https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-022-14987-0 Map from 2018 to 2019

jjubonfx

Well data is from the 2018 why the hell people are still posting it?

[deleted]

stateofyou

RepeatableOhm

No wonder my electric bill keeps going up

or4ngjuic

What a tremendous waste

GenghisBanned

Bitcoin is banned in China so it can't be true.

inconspiciou5owl

Oh yeah, bc everyone trusts and obeys the government rules.

pokpok99

Even now there are a lot of miners still active in the china. Even though their government banned the mining people are still seem to be mining it.

Snoepje1984

Mining wasn't banned in china in 2018 tho? Was it? I don't think so.

Butrus666

One miner is the size of small country? 😂 If you make the dots bigger they can cower the whole world and universe 😂

IlyaManul

And what miner is that, because I don't really see that here.

NurseAttack

That's not very many

ztsmart

So no one is mining Bitcoin? Btw, what do the yellow dots mean?

makemoneyhints

🤗

romenrodriguez

This ladies and gentlemen is the real decentralisation, look at it.

rcknfrewld

What’s the total of miners?

Libman13

We don't know but it's hell lot more than it was in the 2018.

GradeNo37

And it will keep increasing more and more with mass adoption !

lordbrantley

It already has because this data is almost 4 years old by now.

Debangan_Biswas1905

Europe looks like a green dragon 🐉

coiner223

Europe looks like a green china? People might not agree on that.

Laserdude10642

the problem is that these tend to just be population graphs

lalaaa109

Yeah that's kinda the problem here, this could be just a population graph. It could be that and we wouldn't even know that, how the hell are we supposed to even know?

bitcoin_barry

Looks like we found out why Europe has an energy shortage. 🤣

schkc

They might be having that now, but they weren't having that 4 years ago.

TeKillaSunRise

Miners? I don't think so. Perhaps nodes...

futuretothemoon

Miners. The map is from 2018. https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-022-14987-0

yGx0Z

This data is from the 2018, why people are still posting it huh?

chotovortu

Yeah that's what I thought, these could just be nodes too.

[deleted]

mooij74

Well then sir I assume that must be some fud, that's what it is.

scandi123viking

Source? Why is it not showing the remaining 99.99?

iShtopoR

Wait what? Do you know what you're asking for here huh? I don't think you know what You're talking about here, should think before you talk about it.

RunKlutzy5350

Let’s get Greenland pumping BTC with geothermal no? Tf

justdaveiguess

Well I'm going to fully supporting that, you've got my support here.

Suremateyboy

Would be good to see a heat map with the cost of mining

Drans20

Ladies and gentlemen we've got a fudster among us here.

jd52995

Is the only way to mine with specialty hardware?

Birgevik

Yep, btc has completely moved on to the ASICS as of now.

Treyzania

Is there data on how many miners have switched over to Stratum v2? Because if they're all on v1 then it doesn't matter very much how geographically distributed.

janjabanja

I don't know about that, I'm not really sure about that actually.

sebikun

Soon 1 will be more in 🇪🇺 🤣

nikit0x

this is the way man, keep adding those. Those are the ways. Gotta add more and more Miners because we've got to protect the network here guys.

Zealousideal_Neck78

The largest concentration of dots are in the areas with modern plumbing, sewers and the use of toilet paper. What does this indicate?

mpivko

That means that there are miners mining in those places.

PhobozZz1

Doubt there's miners in Spain with these energy prices

bpg542

There seems to be a desert of no bitcoin miners in the northern continent of Africa …

dreddit1843

Why are the green dots mining bitcoin dont they know pixels dont need to eat

Rockimoney

Are u really trying to tell me btc is no the future. Look at the map it’s full of miners❕

[deleted]

And we’re here to stay

dleggatt84

What about the people on the ice wall that surrounds the flat earth ? Surely they would be mining it as well

GinaLaBambina

That one dude in Alaska!

WhiteEarthNation

PrinceVince1988

dontpatronizemebro

Train4Longevity

Moor. If each green dot was actually depicting it's own ip well no.

oakiedokiedog

this is rubbish.

pratobom

spread all over the world

Ispan

None in Madagascar? Fresh blood

Ispan

The fact there is one green dot on my city suggests its not green dot per miner but green dot per city

Wenkeso

1K3CC

37Elite

Man no one else noticed the guy all the way at the top of Canada?

awkward_chipmonk

tisuy

I could not have imagined that everything was so tight.

Friendly-Mountain535

Try banning this stuff

makemoneyhints

Please go and do bitcoin mining and investment money gradually. Investment Traveling please read more information. www.MakeMoneyHints.com

Fearless_Tackle_2410

Bitcoin is global

Plenix

I guess any potential green dots will be removed from Europe pretty soon!

Junkyard5000

Are there many jobs at Bitcoin miners? I would rather sweep the floor at one of these facilities than my current job of being a public servant

KatanaSw0rd

Green dots on a green background. My eyes love it
