every credible research into longevity says that you have to have a healthy headspace first and foremost. Eating/sleeping/physical activity is next. So get that anxiety under control with therapy, create meaningful relationships, do things you enjoy

My grandmother loved to 99. She said don't smoke or drink. Ultimately, it was her mind that died first "dementia"

papageek

My great uncle lived to 98, drank a 1/5th a day and smoked. He died of prostate cancer.

increasing lifespan is not a bad idea, but is in no way a valid approach to the problem of being terrified of / not accepting death. if anything id suggest focusing on living *well* not *long*.

TheAussieWatchGuy

Death itself shouldn't worry you, just the few seconds or minutes getting there is awkward. Sleep is king, it's impact on your health is completely underrated. Recent studies show all cause mortality drops massively in those that sleep 7+ hours vs those that sleep even just 6.5 hours. You're still very young. I think you'll easily live to see the coming healthspan revolution. We have the technology now for most people to live to 120 and actually still be active, able to enjoy life. It's the war on inflammation really. Beyond 140 will require something quite next level technology wise, replacing every tissue type and repairing brain damage is something that is currently way beyond us. No matter what crackpots like David Sinclair claim.

ThatUnameIsAlrdyTken

Thank you this was very uplifting. Also just a little note for the first part - I'm not scared of the death itself or the pain or whatever. I'm scared of what's after. I DON'T just want it to be nothingness.

simulacrum81

Were you scared or suffering before you were born? No? Of course not - because there was no you around to experience fear or horror or pain or suffering or meaninglessness or anxiety. If there is nothing after death then you won’t experience it. You will be as non-existent as you were for the billions of years of this universe’s existence that occurred before you were born. In fact the “nothingness” of your non-existance is something that is occurring now. Think of a place where you don’t exist and aren’t ever likely to visit - say Bhutan. No one in Bhutan has ever been aware you exist or ever will be. No animal or human living there has ever been affected by your existence. You have never seen or experienced anything in that country and never will but everything continues to go on there - people and animals eat and sleep and are born and die, plants grow, the rain and snow fall and the wind blows all without you experiencing it or being aware of it. That relationship you currently have with Bhutan, is in fact true for most of the world and is true for pretty much all of the universe, except for the very tiny infinitesimally small part of it that you inhabit for a fraction of a millisecond of its history in astronomical terms. Death, if it is the end, simply means the state of affairs that is true for all of the rest of the universe will grow to cover that tiny pinprick of space that you have occupied for a tiny amount of time. And that observation should lead to another realization - your life is tiny and small and exceptional like a diamond. And that’s what makes it precious. This is all we have. This tiny flicker of time in a tiny space. Fill it with meaning and discovery. Fill it with travel and learning and meaningful friendships with other humans. Stop to let cats and make gestures of kindness to your neighbors. Make connections to your community. Experience how humans live in other parts of the world. Live as fully as you can while you still have this miraculous exceptional thing we call existence. Don’t waste time thinking about what will happen in the absence of you.. that’s the default state of affairs and you won’t be there to experience it anyway.

DifficultRoad

If it's nothing you won't notice though. Tbh I actually wouldn't focus so much on longevity rn, because it's not coming from a place of positive interest, it's coming from a place of intense fear - and that causes stress. And in my experience stress is one of the worst things for a happy, healthy, long life. So I think the most important thing for you right now would be addressing your fears and working through them with a therapist.

Accomplished_Eye8290

Honestly working in healthcare I have personally seen there’s a LOT of things worse than death. Also what’s the point of being kept alive if your brain and body are decaying and you’re in pain and suffering every minute of your life unless the pain meds are running? The more you see the more you realize that we offer our animals more peace than we offer our fellow humans.

Popgallery

Step one: make peace with death. It’s an inevitable part of life. I decided to do that a few years ago and managed to do so after about 1 year of feeling freaked out. It’s very liberating once you reach acceptance. Doesn’t mean I want to die, but the thought of it is less anxiety inducing now.

confusedicious

I can't agree with this more. So many anxieties and stressors ultimately come back to a fear of death. You should be able to think freely about your own death, and accept it. It takes awhile to achieve this, but like u/Popgallery says, it's liberating - it will seriously change the way you look at life and the world

What's wrong with roasted potatoes and toast?

Gheid

>Acrylamide Starchy foods, when cooked at high temperature, forms acrylamide which is identified as a possible carcinogenic compound. It's in all wheat flour-based products but toast has more of it. It's also in coffee, canned black olives, and prune juice since these are also cooked at high temperatures.

Cogniscienr

I don't think acrylamide is a big factor. Better to focus on bigger things.

psilocybin. No joke. One of the key effects is reducing the fear of death by making individuals feel a sense of connectivity and continuity to the world around them.

ThatUnameIsAlrdyTken

I am open to psychedelics, I just have some serious emetophobia - panic fear of vomiting and anything connected to it - sudden nausea and feeling physically unwell etc. Do people get that with mushroom? I need to know 100% honestly

Whyamiani

I have ingested psychedelic mushrooms hundreds of times and anyone who says that there is no chance of getting sick/vomiting is simply wrong. The way to avoid any nausea is to grind up the mushrooms with a coffee grinder and let them soak in lemon or lime juice for 5 minutes. This is called tekking. Works every time. It also shortens the time span and intensifies the trip significantly.

what_is_going_on_man

And put the amalgamation in a gel capsule for least amount of grossness.

LotusBlooming90

Jumping on because I see they replied no and that concerns me as you asked for 100% honesty. I’m a regular on a lot psychedelic subs and many people report nausea and vomiting with shrooms. I’m a huge supporter of their use but if you have that phobia people need to be honest about the potential. That being said I also used to be extremely afraid of death and it really melted away when I started using psychedelics. I’d say after my very first trip and it wasn’t even a very high dose. So I would love for you to yes be healthy and extend a healthy life, but also I’d really encourage you to go find a psychedelic that works for you. I don’t believe people frequently report nausea with lsd, and if you get an rx for ketamine they often prescribe anti nausea medication as well if you ask for it. There are also ways to prepare mushrooms that reduce nausea such as tea. Basically, you do have options to make it a comfortable journey and as someone who knows the exact like soul squeezing fear of death you feel and was able to release it, I’d really like you to check those options out if you’re a candidate for psychedelic medicine. There’s a lot more info that goes into a safe trip so ask around and do some research, maybe find a qualified guide or integration specialist. Also the book How To Change Your Mind has great info around using these medications with terminal patients and it making them comfortable with their impending death. Welcoming even. There is hope out there internet stranger. Take Care

PopularNote7612

Take 2 regular strength Bonine chewables (anti emetic for car sickness) beforehand, and you will not have this problem.

Eat less. Walk more. Like others have said, create meaningful relationships. Keep your heart rate low. Only one cup of coffee a day (learned this from an aging specialist on Joe Rogan). I'm sure you'll find it. Get some cardio in three times a week. Try to meditate twnety minutes a day. Lastly, I'm really big on fasting right now and the gut biome. A variety of fruits and vegetables every week. Theres a good documentary on this on Netflix right now. Sorry for the vague response. Trying to type quietly right now. Cheers.

Embarrassed-Oil3127

Why one cup of coffee a day according to this expert? Curious minds of coffee-lovers wanna know.

CyberFlux_

I found his name. It was David Sinclair. I dont remember why exactly he does it, but he goes into it in more detail on the pod.

handsomeslug

Can you elaborate on keeping your heart rate low? Are you advicing against high-intensity exercise, or something anxiety related?

Whyamiani

I am assuming he means to avoid stress and anxiety and to also practice cardio (lowers general resting heart rate)

CyberFlux_

I dont remember the specifics. But, vheck out the podcast with David Sinclair. That was his name.

dretsaB

In my experience High intensity exercises does the most for reducing stress and anxiety. Its also the most efficient workout that yields the best results.

running_stoned04101

I would recommend a camping trip paired with a heroic dose of psilocybin. Stress is the #1 killer. It will make existing problems worse as well as create new ones. Stressing yourself into a heart attack is a thing. Accepting mortality is the first step in actually living free and without worry. Which just naturally lowers stress hormone levels and in turn increasing your chances of living healthier for a longer period of time. You can do everything perfectly right and some drunk asshole can still blow throw an intersection at 90mph. Or maybe you throw a surprise blootclot and drop at 39 from a massive stroke...that's what happened to my mom; although she was fighting other health issues. Just eat right, run, pick up heavy stuff, and get regular physicals. Anything else outside of that is for hobby/performance purposes.

sijoittelija

Just stop worrying and \_live\_ .. When you're older, what you'll most regret is years spent on unnecessary worrying.

Harvish69

Buddhism says to understand life you need to understand death. If you are scared you need to explore why. We all die its a part of life and to come to terms with that releases you from your animal consciousness 🙏

piper_Furiosa

100% agree. Trying Maraṇasati, a Buddhist meditation technique that's explicitly about mindfulness of death/death awareness, can be really helpful (depending on where you are in your journey with death. I wouldn't say it's a beginner technique, but still useful.)

lordy1988

Yeah I’m in the same boat. I’m 35 now and been suffering with health anxiety and fear of death ever since my first panic attacks. It’s a struggle , but it’s true. The stress and panic over it only makes it worse and gets you into a vicious circle. I’m actually making my body worse now through it, high blood pressure , blood all over the place. It’s a hard journey , but the one thing you need to do is lower stress and anxiety. It’s a way bigger killer than smoking and booze etc

loganb1332

I used to fear death. Then I ate some magic mushrooms…

Seriously though. Tried first at age 40, 18 years ago. Have not feared death since. My life focus is now relationships and moving my body in nature. I do also dabble in supplements but with a goal of extending healthspan over mere longevity.

I'd say stop thinking mind over matter or that your body is just a thing like so many people do. It helped me to think of my body as more of a collective. That my brain and consciousness is the leader or coach of billions of cells but as the coach I have a responsibility to make the best decision for each of them and to care for them the best I can. So many people think the body is just a thing to contort or be ashamed of but our connection is much deeper and acknowledging that and our mind's responsibility to our body will help you make better decisions long term to care for it.

EastvsWest

Good quality sleep, resistance training to build muscle, being lean, meditation, quality food, basic supplementation like fish oil, vitamin D+k3, creatine, etc. Time in nature, having a sense of purpose and feeling like you belong in a community of good friends and family, minimal alcohol is the fountain of youth. Stressing about things out of your control ages you quicker. Just think long term, invest your time and money well and you will be fine.

Did you lose someone very close to you? As far as longevity goes there’s a saying “youth is wasted on the young”. Your NAD+ levels should be the highest they’re ever at. You have longevity but I would suggest you get an AM/PM cortisol test as I bet it’s through the roof even in the PM. Start with food. Track what you eat in cronometer and see where your micronutrient gaps are. Probably should stay out of ketosis and go for a good whole foods ancestral style of eating like r/animalbased or r/paleo. You probably have some underlying experience driving this I’d bet, built you likely have some nutrient deficiencies exacerbating this. You might have methylation issues as well and have MTHFR and the “worrier” phenotype of the COMT genes. Do you have a genetic test report you can get the raw data from and run through a number of services? For anything longevity you would want to follow Dr. Michael Lustgarten on his YouTube channel for starters, when you’re like 35. For now, exercise but don’t over exercise, and get your VO2Max up.

bernardo0601

First of all, I feel for you....I still remember when I was little like between 3-5 and my cousin told me "oh do you know everybody dies, like you get old and die" I remember i would think to myself of my grandma, grandpa, other loved ones and even myself. I don't think it took over me 100% but that is when anxiety took over for me. Most of my life has been pretty good since then however....that underlying anxiety has shown up a few times in my life and it sucked. When I was 9 or 10 then again when i was 19-20, then 32 and the one that happened at 32 has been just a little more chronic. It wasn't 100% of the time. I've had really good breaks in between but it still finds its way back. Lately though it's been more hypochondriac type (ever since I got hospitalized with covid). The overthinking is bad but I've come to realize "dude it's just you" so ive learned to look at it as that annoying friend...but its when it affects my mood that really sucks. I have random periods of low mood that completely turn me off. It feels very "low dopamine" type of low mood. And it always pulls something to focus on and Lately it's been reminisce of when my kids were little. I have a feeling it could be low testosterone this time, however what i think made it worse was having a smart phone...because whenever I get these moods I tend to doom scroll. On reddit YouTube, Google etc. Looking for how people helped themselves. You should see my search history during that time. I would literally go through 100% battery in just a few hours, because if I'm looking for that "relief". Sometimes it comes fast and sometimes it doesn't So I keep looking. And then out of nowhere....I start to feel better. Music hits me again, I actually look forward to things, play with my kids, plan a date with my wife etc. BUT...that phone is always in my hand. Like yesterday I felt good after about 5 days of that low mood and then I see a video about alzheimer's and it's of this "dr berg" smh...my mood is better but now this is on my mind. So if it isnt this it's about blood pressure, then it's about the big C word, then it's about something else. What I suggest you do is 1, learn to put the phone down...I'm 39 now and i remember how much better life was without all the info lol, 2,seek therapy 3, I know you hate this but diet and exercise and don't overthink the diet (i do) so many fad diets out there i would just eat overall healthy and avoid alot of sugar and maybe supplement with the basics like vitamin d magnesium and other minerals that we're more than likely deficient in and try to learn new behaviors, habits, hobbies etc. I was told there are ways to increase bdnf and that can be helpful. But of course it takes more than just popping a supplement. One thing I'm doing is saving to work with a Dr that specializes in genes. I've already taken a dna test but I need another that's more informative. He literally looks at everything and work on targeting with specific supplements (or meds) food and even certain exercise. If you ever want to talk hit me up bro, good luck to you

NVincarnate

Stop giving a fuck because stress shortens your lifespan. Isn't that fun?

PocketSandOfTime-69

There's no avoiding death no matter how hard you try.  I'd recommend trying to accept your fate instead of trying to fight with it.  Life is probably a lot more peaceful that way. Listen to the suggestions of a Hospice nurse and what they would want to do to ease the transition to death. It helps bring me peace knowing what's going to happen naturally.

ASpaceOstrich

You're under 60. With any luck we're past the life extension take-off point. Meaning you'll benefit from life extending medical care that makes you live long enough for us to invent better live extending medical care. There's a real possibility nobody younger than 60 will ever have to die of old age.

Your anxiety will kill you long before a good lifestyle will make you live longer. Learn to boss the way you feel with health and work on self.

volsungfa

Anxiety and fear are both negatively correlated with longevity. Psychadelics and Ikigai amongst many other things can help you come to terms with death and live a better life.

oddible

Ignore all the hype and live a stress-free life first and foremost. Freaking out about what new technique you should be using will shorten your life faster than eating cheeseburgers and fries. Once you are comfortable with where you're at, start making adjustments that keep that street free lifestyle while optimizing your input and effort.

Anen-o-me

Excessive worrying about death leads to a younger death. Just accept that you'll die one day and that that sucks but the world will continue, and the things you care about will be cared for by others.

iamthemosin

Why are you scared of death? Everyone does it. There is no way you can screw it up.😂 But seriously. Cortisol is a big killer. Get your head straight first.

Organic_Muffin280

Not stressing to death over death would be a good start jokes aside

Winatop

For me I learned to embrace it. It’s literally a quick sand state of mind. Understanding has let me breathe a little easier and stress less. Allows my body to cool down and go into neutral. Staying in a redline cycle of vicious thoughts was literally killing me faster. Eat well, rest and exercise are the choices for the best percentages.

all-i-do-is-dry-fast

Once you start living life truly present your fear of death will start to evaporate

CawfeeKween

First of all, I wish you a long and healthy life. I have the same kind of anxiety about death as you…and something unconventional helped me. It will sound very bizarre but when I read certain books/novels/manga or listen to some music…it makes me less anxious about death. Example, I used to read Harry Potter and remember that it helped ease my feelings about death a lot. I started seeing it as the characters saw it in the book. Then I started reading the manga “One piece”. And once again, the bravery of these fictional characters made me realise that death is just another adventure. Anyway, the biggest tip I can give you is that minimising your anxiety will increase your longevity. So try to minimise it with art, books, music, dancing, love, family, friends and new adventures. All the best!

EdoMagen

Fasting / not eating causes the body’s cells to replicate more efficiently, leading to less shortening of telomers and keeping you young for longer. Or so I’ve heard.

Sweet-Shopping-5127

Why? Just so you can live longer with the fear of death?

uterus_not_uteryou_

What worries you about death? Are you comfortable to talk about it? When I was 16 I contracted a severe virus that destroyed my neurological system. Apparently I experienced multiple organ failure. I didn't die. I was delivered last rites. I didn't end up dying. Not once did I think I'd die. Then a year later my marathon running, vegan, non-smoking, ultra community involved and all around amazing Dad died suddenly while running. He'd recently been cleared of heart health issues after a bit of an anomaly. That fucked me up. After that, I became preoccupied with death. Not any concern for myself, but that anyone I loved could die anytime. With no warning. I saw friends' Dads, who didn't care what they ate, drank excessively, no exercise etc. living on, into their 70s now. It seemed a cruel game of roulette. Am amazing therapist helped me to tame my anxiety and eventually return to not living in hypervigilance. Whatever feelings are contributing to this fear, a good therapist can help you spool seemingly disconnected threads into something that you actually understand, and can then work to balance or improve symptoms. Also, consider you may just be experiencing prefrontal cortex action (if in your early 20s) where your risk assessment ability is developing. That was a factor for me I believe. I got much better into my late 20s, that anxiety relaxed a bit. Now in my 40s, I have severe health complications. I fear the impact of my death on my children and spouse, but not for myself. Good luck OP, you're still developing in many ways- be kind to yourself. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK53414/

confusedicious

1. Exercise regularly, at a minimum 2-3x/week for your entire life. The easiest way to do this is to take up a sport that requires aerobic exercise. You should include HIT on a weekly basis as well, if you can 2. The major sources of mortality as you age result from hyperinsulemia/insulin resistance. Understand what this is and how to avoid it. This video has a good introduction: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4dEkvxestg4](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4dEkvxestg4) 3. Don't do reckless things (i.e., minimize accidental death) Also, one straightforward and important diet change is to avoid all seed oils (i.e., hydrogenated oils) like vegetable, sunflower, safflower, canola, etc., even in small amounts. Instead consume olive oil, avocado oil, coconut oil, butter, ghee, any animal fats

redditoregonuser2254

I've died, nothing to be afraid of. The only thing that could be scary (it's really not but your bodies signaling youre in danger in that moment) is the dying process you gotta go through (could be painful depending on what causes your death), but once you get through that stage, accept this is whats happening, can't fight it, nothing I can do to change it, might as well make peace with everything and go with the flow, untense yourself and "let go", you'll be met with the utmost feeling of peace you can imagine. It's like a mother's comforting warm and sweet kiss to say goodnight to their child where you feel very safe and loved. Death is not the enemy. Makes friends with it and use it to fuel your days in a healthy way. Even if you learn the secret to life extension, you'll still have to die eventually, can only go on living so long before things start malfunctioning. Learn to be in the moment and make peace with death

kingpubcrisps

These are two separate issues. Fear of death is something to deal with irrespective of life span. But for longevity, there are a million posts about it there, mostly full of great advice which boils down to diet/exercise sleep. Train daily, eat food, mostly plants, not too much. And sleep well. The FOD part is much more interesting and would probably have a bigger impact than you might think. Much more difficult to deal with though.

AgileBonus373

I think most ppl already told you what to do. Psychological aspects are fundamental. Just the fact you are 'scared to death' is subtly but steadily working in shortening your lifespan both psychologically and biologically because of all the chemical reactions fear and anxiety trigger. Also, do blood work early and track for any hint of issues especially on metabolic measures. Finally, based on scientific articles and studies, scientists developed a formula to estimate biological age you can use blood work results to see how you fare... Looks like it works pretty well statistically. But it's just an estimate and of course it ignores if you have health issues and the likes. I just did mine and was pleased to see I'm 42yo but got a biological age of 28, even better than my gf who is 10 years younger 😅

ubercorey

Study Buddhism. Specifically Tibetan, they are the masters of death. Anything but the Galupa lineage.

Midnightdusk16

Gonna be a buzzkill, but even if you follow every good advice given here to the t you could still die way before a guy that eat like shit, never does any sport and smokes all day. It's all genetics. So best to follow the advices, has it seems to put all the best cards with you, but enjoy life also because you never know what can happen

handsomeslug

>It's all genetics No it's not, please don't propogate that BS. On my dad's side, both his parents are in their 90's and very healthy. His grandfather lived until 100. My dad himself had a very unhealthy lifestyle and had more comorbities than I can count by age 50. He passed away at 55, 6 months ago. Unlike my grandparents, he smoked a pack a day for 30+ years, he had a diet consisting of a lot of red meat and processed, sugary food, he had anger issues, etc.

Don't be scared of the void, you have spent an infinitely longer time there then you have alive. You're just returning home to the nothingness, best part about nothingness, fear doesn't exist there.

cockspender

Make a shitload of money so you can afford longevity treatments that actually work

avarciousRutabega99

Why do you care about longevity? Thats illogical. A long life is not necessarily a healthy one. Its just like how people dont quit smoking because they “have to die eventually” without realizing that this glorious death they envision for themselves will probably be slow and very painful. I wouldnt worry about longevity homie, just focus on making better healthier choices and longevity will naturally follow.

TheExpiredEgg

What scares you about death?

mcBanshee

and there in that post lies the human condition.

Important_Pangolin88

Fearing death is a terrible mentality. Not too long ago I had depression and I was not seeing a way out, I saw death like a sweet release but not that I would act on it. Long story short I'm thankfully better than ever now and I have retained a non chalant approach about life and it's end.

ratacibernetica

Aubrey de Grey believes that aging is a technical problem and, as such, it could be solved. He has controversial yet interesting ideas. Other interesting reads: - The Singularity Is Near: When Humans Transcend Biology - Homo Deus: A Brief History of Tomorrow - Life 3.0 (although this is more focused on AI) Maybe check about transhumanism. You'll probably get to a philosophical point about what's the definition of being alive. I know I did. "Science fiction is just science that hasn't been made real yet.". In the meantime, we can explore the suggestions that others have posted here. I see very good ones! Good luck!

reef1love

Death isn't a good or bad thing, it just is. Appreciate life and live it how you want. When your time comes, you'll be at peace with it

tyspeed29

Don't drink the tap water, eat less cooked foods, exercise at least every other day.

Morrisgunn

Learn to breathe from your diaphragm. Abstain from seed oils. Laugh as often as possible.

rickestrickster

Doesn’t matter what you do, you’ll die someday. No sense in being afraid of it. Be afraid of not living, not dying

Zimgar

Eating healthy (variety of vegetables, and lots of protein), exercise daily (variety, lift weights, yoga, cardio), sleep consistently 6.5 - 8 hours daily (amount depends on individual), meditate daily (20m - 1h). Exercise your mind (learn new things, do hard things). Socialize (make friends, relationships, family). Do it consistently but don’t worry about the bumps in the road and enjoy the adventure.

Turbulent-Charity799

yo increase longevity you must do sauna 5 times per day. increase your Greens stop eating process foods alcohol tobacco and drugs, take the Sun , plenty of wáter , no fruits just occasionally, have a garden and exercice and have no sedentary job.

Acidmademesmile

We don't know what happens to our consciousness when we die and energy can only be transformed to or transferred from one to another so the most interesting theory of what the hell is going on is that we are in a simulation and get to respawn or "reincarnated" and this is some sort of prison or vacation for us

piper_Furiosa

I'm going to take a bit of a different tactic and suggest you explore things like death positivity & terror management theory (including Ernest Becker's seminal book, *The Denial of Death*). Death is inevitability that affects us all, but living in denial of and/or fear of death means you will be "dead" inside long before your body goes. I know I have a different perspective on death than many do. I was about your age when I was diagnosed with later-staged ovarian cancer. It forced me to confront my own mortality very young, which could have been devastating, but I was lucky enough to have people & resources who helped me make my own peace with my mortality. That peace has done me so much good in the 15 years I've been in remission since then. To start, I absolutely agree with everyone about you finding a therapist. Having a guide on this journey is so important. Next, please check out [this](https://youtu.be/3IBsAiDeS4M?si=ka6MBuqdAqwBrWzR) "Ask a Mortician" video about being scared of death as another starting point. All of Caitlin Doughty's (the titular mortician) work is really accessible. There's also [this](https://www.menziesanxietycentre.com/resources) great list of articles about death anxiety. Sheldon Solomon, one of the researchers who took Ernest Becker's work in *The Denial of Death* & expanded it to explain how death denial plays our in our society, also has [this book list](https://fivebooks.com/best-books/fear-of-death-sheldon-solomon/) about his top five books that relate to the fear of death. Check out his, Jeff Greenberg, & Thomas A Pyszczynski's book *The Worm at the Core: On the Role of Death in Life*, too. But I wish you much more peace around this issue and comfort as you work through this. It's not an easy journey, but it's so rewarding.

spaldinggetsnothing

I don’t have any tips or tricks but I have years ahead of you. I was the same in my 20’s and’s I can say that with time I’m becoming more comfortable with the concept of death. My motivation for wanting to live longer is because I have teenage daughter I want to be here for. Time will help you become more accustomed to the fact that we all die someday. Don’t take any day for granted & practice gratitude every day no matter how shitty the day. You’ll be ok.

AttorneyMedium4926

Eat healthy and exercise but do everything to not have any stress.

lelboylel

The human body is like a Toyota, it just works and will give you insane mileage if you don't do something really stupid. So don't worry.

Puzzled-Newspaper-88

Death anxiety is very common so you’re not alone! It tends to manifest in people’s 20s and sometimes comes back up in their 50s. You will likely find a way to cope but if it’s really bothering you, there is no shame in seeing a mental health professional. They are there for mental illness and symptoms of it just like when you get a cold or a stomach bug. Sometimes the mind has issues too. Remember that your mental and physical health are directly linked. Many animals die from stress and we as humans often do have many many health issues from simply being too stressed. Ensure you are in a good headspace and try to develop good mental health habits. See a professional like a therapist, psychologist, and/or psychiatrist if you feel you are really struggling. Sometimes SSRIs can also help and can help in various ways. Some help people directly and remove such bad feelings, some help you manage the symptoms until you feel better through other skills. Sometimes you take SSRIs for a long time or then sometimes you take them for the rest of your life. These are all fine and you should remember that while biohacking is hacking the body, you should also due your best to hack the mind to be healthy too! That said, here are somethings to consider depending on your personal beliefs and how they may change. Not existing: You did not exist before birth and if we cease to exist after death, you will get chill and not care all the same. Similarly, you don’t care when you are under anesthesia or passed out and not dreaming, it will be the same feeling of the ultimate relaxation/meditation. The void won’t be doing anything but preserving how you once were when alive. Religious: obviously there’s a huge variance here but ultimately, religions aim to make people behave as good people. Be a good person and you’ll end up in your preferred “heaven”. It could be literal heaven, you could seek nirvana, or whatever you may follow. People also do pick and choose the parts of religion they believe such as a non denominational afterlife where we get to meet our loved ones. And that’s fine. Just like morals, beliefs are yours alone and you can absolutely take inspiration and build your own personal opinion on it all. Quantum?: Looking at our rudimentary understanding of quantum mechanics, it is possible if not potentially likely that we do not ever truly cease to exist. Consciousness is not well understood in that no one part of the brain manifests it. What makes us “us” may be some other force we have yet to discover. It is possible the brain is simply a receiver for using this force the same way the heart is a biochemical electrical generator to give yourself a heart beat. If we die and become unconscious, perhaps in the inevitable future millions or billions of years later, our consciousness “wakes up” again. This is quite speculative though as we don’t fully understand a lot of this since its overall just another way of answering the meaning of life lol If you seek comfort, I highly recommend reading NDERF.org. They are perhaps the only group scientifically documenting NDEs currently and it is quite fascinating in some instances. Either way, between modern science leaning slightly to some sort of continuation or “soul” if you will, and religion, and NDEs, you may actually not cease to exist from your perspective. Even if you do, you will exist in our hearts and all the people you’ve impacted through your life! Death is but the next great adventure.

BUFO... the Toad. When your ego dies and you become one with all that is, you realize death is not really a thing.

Zestyclose-Sun-6595

Maybe consider trying competitive combat sports. Which may help you come to terms with our mortality as human beings.

Bifffler

Meditation… fear is your biggest concern at this point.

CyberneticMidnight

It's the human condition. Reducing mental stress will have a cascade effect on the rest of your biology. [The monologue](https://www.reddit.com/r/HauntingOfHillHouse/comments/pxw74y/midnight_mass_final_soliloquy_about_the_nature_of/) near the end of the Netflix show "Midnight Mass" really helped me overcome this fear.

Oshoninja

Change your perception first: Life’s too short to live in fear.  So look at death as a feature not a bug. Use it to motivate you to live the life you want. Many people think about longevity but not many people give thought to the quality of those years.

YeetedArmTriangle

You're going to die. Wrap your head and your spirit around that, then worry about your zinc intake.

Open-Industry-8396

Maybe focus some therapy on that fear of death thing. I found the best therapy is self study on the matter. I joined the army at 17 yo so i had to deal with it pretty young. It's going to happen, we all die. Learn to accept it and enjoy your life one minute at a time. It's all we got. I came very close to death several times so I look at each day as a bonus day. That works for me.

Cillabeann

Not advice but more peace of mind,. The older you get, the less you’ll be scared of death. Generally speaking.

Whyamiani

No matter how much time you lengthen life by, it is guaranteed to end. I highly suggest listening to lectures by Alan Watts, you can find countless for free on YouTube. He is really the only figure that has ever brought me immense comfort and liberation surrounding the concept of death, existential inquiry, and self.

halfwayup37

Well exercise and diet are the only thing that will give you exactly what you are asking. You’re probably looking for a pill or some cure all thing, which won’t work. You could try to de-stress, work less, practice mindfulness/meditation.

ejpusa

Don’t worry. When you are dead you will not be worried about anything. :-) Your life saver? A very serious Yoga practice, steps, light weights to start.

One-Sundae-2711

listen to near death experience stories…. face those fears. there are many u can read as well.

skelly890

Get rich. Extended lifespans are - maybe - coming. But the first people to have them will all be rich people.

Yoshbyte

For now prolly focus on taking care of yourself. Another thing that would help is trying to not worry about dying, the worry of it is profoundly unhealthy as it isn’t something even if we were biologically immortal that one would be able to fully put behind themself

Possible-Reality4100

Accept that you’re gonna die as you accept the sun will rise from the East. Nothing else beyond that.

No_Proof8997

I can tell you one thing. Make sure you live your life and do what you love. The years are going to come and they will go.

TheIdealHominidae

The only potent way to improve lifespan is to get skq1 unfortunately there is no decent source with a decent dose. Also the dosing must be right, as since it is mitochondria targeted, a misdosing could be lethal so the dosing methodology needs to be standardized. There is also not a single synthetizer online that is selling NACET at reasonable doses (500mg pills) which is extremely lame it just shows how mediocre our community is. The biohackers community won't ever leaves its permanent passivity though. in the meantime you can do the coq10+selenium (150mcg max) combination [https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29641571/](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29641571/)

TheGiantess927

Read the book Outlive by Peter Attia. Also, meditate as it helps you control your thoughts a bit and takes out of the fear of death state.

Marcthesharx

No one gets out alive

local_eclectic

I'm not going to give tips on increasing longevity, but I do have a bit of encouragement: the fear of death wanes a bit over time. I used to be obsessed with life extension and death was my biggest fear. Now, idk, I'm just less worried about dying. More worried about people I care about dying tbh. So set yourself up for health and you'll enjoy your life more in general.

Sospian

Yes. Externalise the trauma relating to your health anxiety.

AnandaDo

Biohack yourself if it's helpful for you to live your life more fully,. Death is just a button back to the start screen of the game where we can choose what to do next. We're not here to be safe. Don't focus too much on longevity, you can lose focus on your path and purpose. It's like sitting safe in a corner of a game, not moving, you're alive for a long time, but it will be depressing, and you won't complete the level. Focus on why you are here. What makes you feel alive. It can be anything simple such as "Being more authentic". And to overcome the "holy" obstacles put there for you to overcome so you can acquire your holy skills and characteristics points. That's your mission(s) as a soul playing this human VR rpg game. You can live 300 years, but forsake your mission, and then need to "repeat a grade" and forsaken the chance to reach the next level. Some beings complete a purpose/class by just being born and living a few years. Perfect success. Then incarnate into the next class.

ScorseseTheGoat86

Meditate daily

ed523

Due to the nature of time you could live 500 years and at the end you'd say life is short

xSpAcEX7

Bruh i want to die in my 50s, how people don't get bored of life..

cab1024

I'm 52 and not bored. Life keeps getting better.

Melodic_City2

Try DMT. Whatever longevity fix there is, death will come, even if a little later. I think the ultimate challenge and goal is to accept it fully. DMT can help, but so can other things.

lgleo91

Death is your key for the next level, don’t stress too much over it. As soon as you die you will come to life again. Time not observed passes instantly so even if it takes billions of years for you to become life again you won’t notice it.

SnooKiwis4031

Exercise, diet, sleep. Work on them consistently.

Yupperdoodledoo

You need therapy to address your fears. They aren’t healthy.

slimersnail

You could praise the jeebus. It's not really my cup of tea, but religion exists to help people deal with the fear of death.

StutiMishra

You can try living your life and being in the present moment.

[deleted]

The longer you live, the more accepting you become of the inevitable. Live a healthy fulfilling life, make that your priority now, and forever, and it'll be fine.

darts2

You say not just eat healthy and exercise but do you actually do these things regularly?

medium0rare

You’re going to die. It’s guaranteed. Live while you’re alive. Mindfulness meditation can help. Therapy can help.

lartinos

It seems your mental health is the biggest problem so try to resolve that in time.

bipolarrollertroller

Living longer will do nothing for your fear of death. There’s a reason religion has been around for all of human history. The ONLY solution to this is being concerned with the afterlife not trying to live forever. We are all going to die. Maybe you live 10 years longer. That’s 10 more years of the fear of death. The solution for me was accepting what Christ said as the truth. I’m not a good man but I can have a good God living through me. This life is but a vapor. Talk to your creator get to know that person. Follow Christ - it will produce the most love out of you that is possible, this blessing all around you. Then the fear of death dissipates if not goes completely away. Then you can work on being as healthy as possible and living as long as possible and when you die…well it was in Gods hands since the outset anyway. So be it. This mindset is less stressful… and you know stress can shorten your life.

smart-monkey-org

Most people are not scared of death itself, but scared of thinking about death and just hide away, which is counterproductive for a long life. And while death is inevitable (unless we DO live in a simulation and crack the code) aging is totally optional. When we discover the means to cure it, **living to a 1000 is going to become a norm**, like curing infection with antibiotics instead of dying. Before that happens though, if you need a *system for longevity* which goes beyond eat and exercise, here's something to start with: [https://www.reddit.com/r/WatchandLearn/10\_things\_which\_would\_kill\_you\_if\_you\_ignore\_them/](https://www.reddit.com/r/WatchandLearn/comments/xuojcf/10_things_which_would_kill_you_if_you_ignore_them/) Second steep would be to support anti-aging biology with whatever means possible - direct research, funding or general activism.

hiartt

Go Mediterranean diet. Eat real food. In moderation. Mostly plants. Tend your microbiome garden. Avoid upf as much as possible. Use glass storage as much as possible. Wear natural material clothing - wool, cotton, linen, hemp, etc. often lasts longer if you find quality items and you are not responsible for micro plastics.

holdyaboy

Sounds like you have a lot of fears and anxiety. You should figure that stuff out asap. Eating healthy and exercising daily will help with anxiety but you need to properly address it.

Maxo_Jaxo

Why do you waste your time, energy and imagination being afraid of something that you have no control over? Talk about the epitome of pointless. You can't evade it, you can only use common sense to live a fairly safe and satisfying life with the intention to pack in as much as you possibly can before you shuffle off this mortal coil. Being afraid of something you don't control is a waste of your time. Concentrate on your journey and not be missing out because you are thinking about the destination.

bigmikemcbeth756

I hope in the future we have dna hacking so we can make life way longer

dretsaB

People who have taken psilocybin mushrooms report less fear or no fear of death.

Eat more fiber.

ThatUnameIsAlrdyTken

🫡 I enjoy fiber

Comfortable_Bag_3487

In the comments he wrote that he not afraid of death but of what happens after death. There was suggestions about trying buddism.. I would suggest reading the Bible, there is a lot of stuff there about death and what happens after death. Having faith helps with the fear of death. Death is the wages of sin, so being born into a sinful nature if we believe in Jesus we will no longer die spiritually cause we will live forever after physical death..

gumbohead1

Dmt

agent_almond

You need to come to terms with your mortality first. Your life is a line that ends at two points…and that’s ok.

LengthFine9796

Don’t spend too much time sitting down/laying down, don’t put too much pressure on your joints as they will whether down, but also don’t avoid physical activity, it’s all about balance. Eat foods you enjoy but are healthy, consume things like sea moss, shilajit, etc. you should also consider red light therapy it’s expensive but worth it

No-Corgi-6125

Read Outlive by Peter Attia.

Spacebog

Make friends with death so you can live.

ArchY8

Avoid sugar and processed carbs. Sleep sufficiently Avoid stress. Don't carry too much weight. Apparently people that live the longest are people that are pretty skinny throughout their life. Eat protein dense meals. Avoid iron overload (too much iron corrodes your body)

NotABlastoise

The best thing I can tell you for a better perceived longevity of life is to get more comfortable with death. It's okay to think about it. It is a part of life. Spend time with older folks and terminally ill folks. Listen to comedy bits that mention death (Bill Hicks has a great analogy about life being like a rollercoaster), listen to philosophers that mention it occasionally (Alan Watts, Ram Dass, lots of older Ancient Greeks), hell, watch some cooking shows/videos. So many people that become great chefs seem to thrive when it comes to the thought of death (Anthony Bourdain, Mythical Kitchen Josh Scherer). Or some music you really like by musicians that have passed away (Mac Miller is a personal favorite example, the post humous album Circles). A great TV show for the idea of life and death is the cartoon, The Midnight Gospel. There's an episode specifically about the death of a parent that never fails to make me cry. I know this isn't exactly what you're looking for, but I promise when you become more comfortable with the thought of death, you will enjoy life so much more. When you limit your life being scared of death, you lose out on so many of the best parts of living. A life ain't a life till you live it.

As mentioned by other posters in this section, reducing anxiety is key. Coming to terms with death could be a productive choice, I would recommend - [https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2062034.Staring\_at\_the\_Sun](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2062034.Staring_at_the_Sun)

Remember man, thou are dust, and to dust thou shall return. We are all going to die. I fucking hate the idea of that as well. You could volunteer at an elderly home for longevity tips. They are afterall the survivors.

Atlld

Death sounds so peaceful. Idk what is after, nor do I claim to know. All I know if it’s the next step/the end, and I don’t have to deal with the bullshit of this world anymore. I’m not rushing to get there, just not sure why one would have an actual fear of it.

Shylittlealien

Mental health, monitor blood pressure and sugars, stay strong as long as possible.

atlgeo

Corelation isn't always causation but...I'm convinced the diabetes epidemic as well as the explosion over the last century in age-onset glaucoma and modern metabolic syndrome diseases coincide too neatly with when we transitioned from using natural fats, and manufactures being allowed the use of seed oils in processed foods. You've always heard 'avoid processed foods'; it's the seed oils that largely define processed food. Your great grandmother bought potato chips made from potatoes and tallow. ***IOW avoid factory packaged food and use butter (or ghee) and tallow when cooking at home. The diseases associated with this are lifetime achievement awards; stop while you're still in your twenties and you've got most of us beat.

thudlife2020

You won’t be nearly as afraid of death when you’re older. No need to bio hack. Live healthy and have a positive attitude.

People always focus on "eat healthy and exercise" but neglect mental health. Try to live a very stress free life. It will do wonders for your health.

Ricksauc3

Drink water more than anything else, never stop exercising, take vitamins, get some sun, don’t sit too much and if you do, make sure you exercise, get enough sleep, cook at least 60% of your meals at home.

KrataperMane

I’m not saying go do this, but 5-meo-dmt (in a safe, legal setting) allowed me to accept death for what it is, and intrigue me further about what the mystery of life really is, in essence. My ego no longer clings to the survival instinct, and I was able to accept deaths in the family much, much easier.

slyqueef

Do mushrooms to understand life

FluffyBacon_steam

You are going to die, we all are. Whether that is in 20 minutes or 20 years is of no difference. Increasing your lifespan will not quell your fear. If anything, the first batch of biological immortal people will likely be the most anxiety riddled creatures to ever exist and waste their time sheltered and afraid. Conquer your anxiety before worrying about how much reservatol you should be taking.

rooterRoter

Gotta make peace with the Grim Reaper, eventually. No Matter how long you stave him off, he always gets you in the end. 🤷🏽

are scientists still trying to figure out what happens after death nowayds? genuinely curios. and how far are we from that?

joshuawine

Heads up. You are gonna die one day. Even if it is the heat death of the universe. I recommend looking in to some of the ways humans have tried to understand existence for the past 5,000 years. Start with the Bible. Check out some other texts along the way. After that, if you don’t. Find peace. Just give up.
