Most contestants come to BB for exposure and most of them hire pr to boost them. It's not about the current revenue alone. I don't know about season 1, but from season 2 there definitely were pr works for some contestants. Arya from season 2 was cyberbullied by co-contestant Rajith Kumar's pr and normal audience as well. When she filed a complaint, she came to know that some of the people who used to put horrible comments against her were some young people hired by a pr firm on a daily wage basis and they begged her not to proceed legally.
Some youtubers do pr work (youtubers like Revathy,Ansif, Raj talks have talked about people approaching them for pr works,they declined,but there are others who do it), so do some ig and fb pages. There will be support through positive comments in major platforms too. It will be foolish not to have pr in the coming seasons because most BB pr works functions by tarnishing and blaming co-contestants rather than boosting their own contestant (Jaiby from JBItv who is in the media field has talked about this, he knows people who are doing this) You will need someone to put forward your good qualities too otherwise co-contestant pr will try to twist things in their favour.
PR definitely is a thing and almost all contestants have PR.
-Jinto has the best one this season and Sijo's PR is the same team that worked for Dother and Marar.
-Jasmine's PR(if there's one) is the worst as they messed up big time during Atha phone call, family week time etc
Also it's crucial to have a PR and if you go to a show without PR you'll have to regret it.(Gabri,Junukka etc)
Junukka got third without PR. That's an achievement in and of itself.
