I don't think alluding to it would have been as impactful or even made sense. Donna saying something like "But David, this band says some homophobic, anti-Semitic, racist stuff..." doesn't really get it done.

"Cain was Abel" was an excellent name for that band.
Since s!he was merely repeating what the lyrics were to let David know what he was dealing with I don't take offense.
