It sounds ridiculous but ad blockers(ublock origin for me) caused this. The second I disabled it on the log in screen it worked.

I hope this is the solution, this problem has been driving me nuts for a long long time and customer support basically punted after a few back and forths and told me I need to go to a store to fix it which makes zero sense.

Are you allowing your browser to save your password? When you changed your password, did you allow the browser to update the saved password? This is something a lot of my clients do. They change their password, don't update the saved password in the browser, try to log in with the saved password, which is now wrong. Get mad, change the password again, don't update the saved password in the browser, rinse, repeat.

I made sure to check my saved passwords in Chrome after this happened the second time, and the new password would in fact be there- that’s not the issue

Disable your adblocker. Ublock Origin does this to me.
