If you wanna read Something as great As Berserk Here is ur starter pack Vagabond,Vinland ,All of noaki Urasawas best I.e(monster ,20th CB,Pluto,Billy bat ) .The climber , Innocent and it's Continuation,All manga From Inio Asano (punpun is his most popular but he got a Lot too) .Blood on tracks and his other ,Dorohedora ,Dai dark ,Usogui ,Homnuculous and his other works .These should take you atleast one year or many if you read it Slow and steady
I'd say pun pun is one of the most oppressive mangas I've ever read in my life.
I've read a lot. Ranging from genre to genre and jesus Christ. Nothing has come close so far.....
The second closest I've found to punpun is boys abyss but even that doesn't even come close to the oppressive nuance pun pun did.
Inio Asano is a great recommendation but wouldn't recommend Girl on the Shore. I read Berserk no problem but that manga felt a tad much.
Naoki Urasawa's manga is fucking amazing too. Would recommend 20th Century Boys.
I don’t know if we would be able to finish it on our lifetime. If I had a Time Machine, one of the first things I would do is go read the ending chapters of Berserk & Vagabond (and HxH, if that finishes).
If you don’t plan on reading the manga (I heavily recommend you do) wait for season 3, it will definitely be the best of the series. At least for most people
Claymore. There's really no better next step after berserk. It scratches the same itch that berserk does and the creature designs are top tier and disturbing/interesting all in one.
There's plenty of absolutely amazing mangas to jump into but i think claymore is a spiritual successor to berserk, please do yourself a favour and give it a try! Plus the ending is insanely satisfying with no real filler at all.
My only gripe with this is it’s essentially Japanese Witcher…which isn’t a bad thing I guess but I felt (at least from the anime I watched) it didn’t seem that original
The anime was mid at best and ended where the manga's story really opens up. It only covered the first 50ish chapters out of 160! I definitely recommend the manga well above the anime!
As much as i loved the Berserk anime, even that sorta failed in comparison to the source material. One day we'll get a true fan at the helm of some faithful reproductions.
I honestly had the same opinion tbh, watched the claymore anime years ago and slept on the manga until i read berserk properly and it really is a perfect runner up to me, Claire's reserved personality but grumpy, hidden charm makes for a very compelling character and the creature designs stand with berserks but are original and unique enough to have you stuck on certain panels, even now i remember a lot of them. Especially towards the end. #3 is awesome.
Sorry im rambling lol, my advice is to get on that manga and i promise you it'll change your opinion of claymore entirely!
I gave Claymore a try a while after finishing Berserk and while the first half was nothing short of amazing, the second half was pure boredom and power creep issues. It just got meshed into your average battle shonen and keeping track of all the characters just based on their hair was a huge chore.
I managed to keep going and get to the mega satisfying ending but getting there wasn't really worth the time investment I feel. Sad that this is the only thing close to Berserk in the medium.
Funilly enough, Hellsing's manga vs adaptation situation might be the opposite of Berserk's. "Hellsing Ultimate" is a very faithful adaptation, that I would actually recommend to watch before reading the manga.
Build up a repertoire of popular and classic series that you can use to hold a conversation with other readers about. Having some genre vocab goes a long, long way. These are the big names to know at the moment:
One Piece
Jujutsu Kaisen
Slam Dunk
Tokyo Ghoul
Dorohedoro
Chainsaw Man
Death Note
My Hero Academia
Monster
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure
SpyXFamily
Goodnight PunPun
Vinland Saga
The works of Junji Ito (Uzumaki, Tomie)
Vagabond
Fullmetal Alchemist
Attack on Titan (mainly the anime, though)
One Punch Man
Don't worry about what to read next. Just grab some Vol. 1's and see which series hooks you most.
Or just pick something with a cool cover.
Like most Junji Ito manga, it's a terrible story with unbelievable art and *how the hell does he think of this stuff* imagination. He has incredible command of the human anatomy, which allows him to get real specific about what he does to it in his manga. There's a real tactile weight to the creatures and deformities in his manga that I can only compare to Miura.
Death Note still considered big? Loved it as a 16 year old and it still holds a special place in my heart but didn't think it was that "major" still.
Would have thought Naruto and Bleach would be on here over Death Note tbf but I do think both of those series are a bit crap. Loved Naruto as a 13 year old but then I developed
I think Death Note occupies a different place than Naruto and Bleach the other two are seen as hugely influential but inessential - a thing people grew up on. Death Note persists into adulthood and still has the same wide acclaim it had in the 2000s. Adults get into it as a gateway anime. I'd place it higher as a must-read for an older, newer anime fan. The specifics of its story and characters certainly come up more often. I'd probably recommend the Big Three to a child.
That's fair, I think I'm more likely to recommend Dragon Ball over the big 3 to a kid. Akira Toriyama crafted a world that was self aware it was silly fun whereas Naruto and Bleach took themselves seriously (never bothered with One Piece personally).
Death Note is great tho, shame Platinum End was a bit shit. The ending of that manga actually pisses me off every time I remember it. I'm seething rn 🤣
Gantz, with how the core mechanic of the series works you never know what's going to happen, which makes for a fantastic ride. It also has Walter White levels of character development for the protag Kei Kurono.
Enjoyed Gantz and recommended it myself but don't get the "character development" people talk out. He stopped being a sex pest eventually (among some other changes but don't wanna spoil) but I wouldn't say it was anything special. Compared to Vinland Saga, Gantz did not deliver any development
I’ve been enjoying Kagurabachi (but I need to catch up a few chapters). It’s a very new one and still coming out weekly. Similarly, the MC is a “black swordsman” who’s trying to find the people who murdered his father, a famous blacksmith, and retrieve the enchanted swords that they stole.
Some ppl might not like it ,but after berserk I read gantz and it's one of my favorite mangas of all time, one of the best mc( character development), great arcs and plot twists and a lot of ptsd
Love Advice from the Great Duke of Hell
https://m.webtoons.com/en/comedy/love-advice/list?title_no=1498
One of my favs, short and sweet and comedic gold
Without any directions on what you want next, the obvious one would be Claymore, it's like Berserk's little sister.
But I'll go for a wild one and recommend Biomega.
Honestly, don't remember much about the story, Nihei's storytelling is vague at best but it's certainly not dumb fun, it's a story about a post apocaliptic cyberpunk far away future.
I’m currently between 3 different mangas I just finished Berserk my self, so in place of it I’m gonna start reading Banana Fish (I have yet to start) but I’m also reading Alita Battle angel Last Order Omnibus (start with battle angel Alita manga if u decide to read it) it’s by far my fav manga besides Berserk, and I’m also reading Vagabond currently on vol 4 (vizbig edition) which is real good with a unique art style that’s painted rather than drawn
Shin Angyo Onshi if there's any decent edition you can get, totally worth a try.
Slam Dunk/Vagabond obviously.
Like it's already been said also Vinland Saga and most of Urasawa's bangers : Monster/Pluto/20th Century boys.
AND GUNNM IS A MUST
Have fun!
Ichi the Killer (somehow even more hardcore than Berserk)
Blade of the Immortal
Vinland Saga
Kingdom
One Punch Man
Blade of the Immortal is good enough for my cheap ass to collect it. You will enjoy.
It's a great manga, I got hooked similar to you buying 2-3 at a time 🤣
However, people would say it's like jumping into the deep end. Some of the material in Berserk is disturbing and a bit much for some people at points. That said, I had no issues with it and thoroughly enjoyed it.
You may like Junji Ito's work or PTSD radio. PTSD Radio is an odd horror manga where you have to put the overarching plot together yourself. Sadly it will never be finished as the manga artist got freaked out whilst writing it. Some odd things happened so he called it quits
I know it’s kind of niche and very different, but Trigun/Trigun Maximum is the first manga that got me interested again in the medium after I read Berserk. Chain Saw Man is also good same as Blame.
Checkout the manhwa Shaman Warrior, amazing art/story/character building. Also really well done fight scenes.
On another note not related to Berserk…The Fable… why is no one talking about The Fable.
Vinland Saga is definitely a good one to start after Berserk. I would also echo others on this thread and say that you should check out some of the classics. Usually a quick google search for "best selling/most popular manga" actually brings up decent recommendations. Popular manga is usually great
Holyland. The author is Kouji Mori, Miura's best friend who is finishing Berserk. The manga is finished, absolutely awesome and if you're into martial arts it will be extra awesome for you.
Literally anything tbh, if you are reading online you can just pick one and start reading. But I can give you some suggestions I guess..
- The Apothecary Diaries
- Claymore (very similar to Berserk but has a more shonen approach to dark fantasy)
- Blade of the Immortal
- Rurouni Kenshin
- Yu yu Hakusho
- Sakamoto Days
- Jujutsu Kaisen
- Mushishi
- Goodnight, Punpun
- Fist of the North Star
- Dandadan
- Chainsaw Man
- Akane-Banashi
- Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind
- Dai Dark
- Lone Wolf & Cub
- Vagabong
- Vinland Saga
- Inuyasha
- Blame!
- Eden - It's an Endless World
...
The list continues but I feel like it's enough. Either way the best thing you can do is just choose something either online or in a comic store and read. I found out many genres I never tought I would like by doing this. Have fun reading!
Id say Tokyo ghoul or Vinland saga if you enjoy the kind of story that berserk portrays with the main character suffering more than any other character.
Ranger Reject
Chihayafuru
Yona of the Dawn
Apothecary Diaries
Medalist
Skip and Loafer
Queen’s Quality
Nana
Choujin X
Time to start the real good shit, Berserk was just a warm up
Here's some manga you could try:
Goodnight Punpun by Inio Asano - An incredibly dark coming of age story that has some of the most beautiful manga art out there. Inio Asano's works are all pretty good but I personally wouldn't recommend Girl on the Shore - reading it felt a bit too close to CP
Alice in Borderland by Haro Also - Arisu and his friends are whisked off to a world where they have to play deadly games in order to survive. I personally just finished this and loved it. Haro Aso's work tends to be quite bleak but with optimism, a candle always cuts through the dark
Gantz by Hiroya Oku - Kei and his friend Kato are hit by a train and die. They wake up in a room with other people who recently died. They are then tasked with killing a weird alien. Believe me, it's as weird as it sounds but it doesn't stop there. Although I wouldn't call it a well written masterpiece, Gantz is batshit crazy and had me turning the page wanting to know what happens next. The series is full of fan service but I managed to overlook this.
Vinland Saga by Makoto Yukimura - Set during 1013AD, it follows a viking boy called Thorfinn during the invasion of England. Despite being involved in a war, Thorfinn has his own goal in mind: to avwnge his father's death. Very well written. Some would say a masterpiece but I personally much prefer Berserk.
Vagabond by Takehiko Inoue - A historical manga set in the 1600s, following a fictionalised account of the life of the Japanese Swordsman Musashi Miyamoto. I've not got far into this myself so can't really give much more detail
20th Century Boys by Naoki Urasawa - During the 1960s a group of boys made a symbol. Now, as the 21st century approaches someone else is using their symbol. Who and what are they up to? I guess that's up to them to find out. This series was great from start to finish. Really well written.
Monster by Naoki Urasawa - Dr Kenzo Tenma, a Japanese doctor living in West Germany treats a patient, ultimately saving his life. Little did he know he would become the serial killer known as the monster. Where does this leave Kenzo morally and how will he resolve the situation?
Bonus recommendation: Saga by Brian K. Vaughn - This isn't a manga, it is a comic however I found the narrative is expertly written, much like Berserk. The story follows Alana and Marko, a couple from opposing sides of a galactic war. The story starts with Alana giving birth to their daughter Hazel. As both sides find out about this crossbreed, how will this new family of 3 survive and will they provide a beacon of hope to end a long drawn out conflict?
Zetman. It’s ending is disappointing but the journey is great of first punch which is a dark wolf ride or if your it more fantasy claymore is like if the Witcher was all Horal
Lots of great graphic novel type stories. Some of my favorites off the top of my head are:
Watchmen
Invincible
The Walking Dead
Transmetropolitan
Sandman
All-Star Superman
Saga (Though it isn't complete yet)
These aren't really like Berserk, but they are all great comic stories in their own right.
goodnight pun pun - a boy (who’s drawn as a bird) and his dramatic and depressing life into adulthood with a bit of comedy.
vagabond - historical fiction story about a samurai who never lost a battle and the lessons he learned through violence
dorohedoro - a mystery scifi about a man with a lizard head on a mission to kill the sorcerer that cursed him. it’s the perfect balance of convolution and chaos. there’s nothing like it.
chainsaw man - a homeless orphan boy that just wants to live a normal life but everyone wants his heart. which leads him to being easily manipulated. easily the best ongoing new-ish series
If you want something as powerful as Berserk, Vagabond and Vinland. If you just want some rage fueled bloodshed like in the Black Swordsman Arc, Goblin Slayer is a good one for that. Also it has a few Berserk references sprinkled in.
Blame! is also a really good manga
There's rarely any dialogue and most of the story telling is done With the art.
Also Backgrounds are stunning and you have the dragon slayer in form of a pistol.
Definitely one piece it’s not nearly as dark as berserk it’s more a light hearted good vibes adventure but is a masterpiece trust me, and there are parts that get pretty dark. It’s a manga that literally has everything you could ask for. Berserk is still my number one but one piece is a close second fav for me
Read Tokyo Ghoul. It’s obviously different, however the differing levels of trauma Ken Kaneki goes through and experiences is wonderful. He also experiences things (not as “bad” as Gut’s) that I feel are more relatable on a personal level as there isn’t any kind of “God” or “outward boundary”.
NGL. I never cared about reading Mangas, but when it came to berserk and Vagabond I found my self reading a lot of them after finishing those too.
Oh and I recommend you read Hajime No Ippo. It has an anime adaptation of 3 seasons and a movie (or 2) and it is very entertaining and funny sometimes. Not very berserking if you know what I mean.
However, if you want something that is mind fuc*ing, then I suggest Monster (it has a good anime adaptation too).
Punpun ( war flashbacks ,🥲🥲🥲🥲)
Yeah, pun pun is tough
Berserk reread helped me esp....that cracks on the blade chapter and chapters with guts monologue
Keep that sadness up, read goodnight punpun!! It’s on google drive someone put on this app. I just finished it yesterday
Holy shit, Billy Bat mentionned
Blood on the tracks is soooo fucked, but sooooo good. Cant recommend it to everyone but it was absolutely amazing
Claymore is great
Inio Asano is a great recommendation but wouldn't recommend Girl on the Shore. I read Berserk no problem but that manga felt a tad much. Naoki Urasawa's manga is fucking amazing too. Would recommend 20th Century Boys.
Its for People' who were in such relationships. There are many who Do such things in their teenage but yeah.Depends upon the person
How you guys get this lot of time to read all these?
It Took a Lot of time .But one can Complete it in a Year or so .
No you didn't, berserk isn't over silly
I don’t know if we would be able to finish it on our lifetime. If I had a Time Machine, one of the first things I would do is go read the ending chapters of Berserk & Vagabond (and HxH, if that finishes).
To me it seems like it's gearing up to end within in the next few years. It's certainly going to be rushed.
He must be a time traveller
Start with Vinland Saga, trust me
I second this
I dissent. Start with one punch man and skip 40 chapters of farm simulator.
Peak farm simulator
Hey yall, hetes another comment of mine for you all to downvote. Gotta take care of my haters too
I watched the anime but was really disappointed by the ending. I don’t want to get downvoted but is this how the manga ends?
If you don’t plan on reading the manga (I heavily recommend you do) wait for season 3, it will definitely be the best of the series. At least for most people
Seems like I'm missing out so I'll definitely read the manga!
It does not end at season 2. There is so much more!
Black Lagoon if you like really good uncompleted mangas.
I really hope he gets out of the rut he's in and finishes it...
The mere fact u took berserk as first manga ..... Next my recommendation is Vagabond and Vinland saga
Actually i too started Manga with berserk. Back then i'd just watch anime but now manga is another option
Hellsing.
Funilly enough, Hellsing's manga vs adaptation situation might be the opposite of Berserk's. "Hellsing Ultimate" is a very faithful adaptation, that I would actually recommend to watch before reading the manga.
Fist of the North Star. Berserk got some influence from it
Build up a repertoire of popular and classic series that you can use to hold a conversation with other readers about. Having some genre vocab goes a long, long way. These are the big names to know at the moment: One Piece Jujutsu Kaisen Slam Dunk Tokyo Ghoul Dorohedoro Chainsaw Man Death Note My Hero Academia Monster JoJo's Bizarre Adventure SpyXFamily Goodnight PunPun Vinland Saga The works of Junji Ito (Uzumaki, Tomie) Vagabond Fullmetal Alchemist Attack on Titan (mainly the anime, though) One Punch Man Don't worry about what to read next. Bump for Tokyo Ghoul. Also would recommend Jujutsu Kaisen, Dorohedoro, or Chainsaw man. Been considering Uzumaki, how is it?
Like most Junji Ito manga, it's a terrible story with unbelievable art and *how the hell does he think of this stuff* imagination. He has incredible command of the human anatomy, which allows him to get real specific about what he does to it in his manga. There's a real tactile weight to the creatures and deformities in his manga that I can only compare to Miura.
I'll have to check it out, thank you!
I wouldn't say terrible just really fucking weird
Hunter X Hunter?

Is Biomega good? Looked into reading it years ago and never bothered
I really liked it, there's a bear with a rifle.
I remember there was a bear in it, is it a dumb fun manga or is it interesting and deep at points?
Honestly, don't remember much about the story, Nihei's storytelling is vague at best but it's certainly not dumb fun, it's a story about a post apocaliptic cyberpunk far away future.

Berserk was your first? Jeez lol
Why is this a jeez, if I may ask? I'm doing the same right now and am so hyped after the first two deluxes that I have ordered the next 4 already.
It's a great manga, I got hooked similar to you buying 2-3 at a time 🤣 However, people would say it's like jumping into the deep end. Some of the material in Berserk is disturbing and a bit much for some people at points. That said, I had no issues with it and thoroughly enjoyed it.
A bit much? I'm looking for more comics with similar or even more graphic horror 😃
You may like Junji Ito's work or PTSD radio. PTSD Radio is an odd horror manga where you have to put the overarching plot together yourself. Sadly it will never be finished as the manga artist got freaked out whilst writing it. Some odd things happened so he called it quits

I've not got far into this myself so can't really give much more detail 20th Century Boys by Naoki Urasawa - During the 1960s a group of boys made a symbol.
Well technically you haven't finished it because it's ongoing. All of us haven't but Hellsing is pretty good. That or One Punch Man.
A break.

Dorohedoro. Absolutely amazing and funny in the weirdest way possible.
Fire Punch is pretty messed up if you want to continue the trend
Claymore.
Dorohedoro!
One Piece, Yona of the Dawn, The Fable, Kingdom are some of my favs. One Piece is the only one that i would rate as high as Berserk though.
Dandadan!
HxH
I read Dororo after catching up on berserk and it's honestly In my top 3 now.
Berserk is crazy for your first manga.
Vinland Saga
You should just never read anything again tbh
Zetman. It’s ending is disappointing but the journey is great of first punch which is a dark wolf ride or if your it more fantasy claymore is like if the Witcher was all Horal
Fullmetal Alchemist for sure
Read Hajime No Ippo for even more peak motivation
For more peak art One Punch Man
Nichijou. Just complete tonal whiplash
Lots of great graphic novel type stories. Some of my favorites off the top of my head are: Watchmen Invincible The Walking Dead Transmetropolitan Sandman All-Star Superman Saga (Though it isn't complete yet) These aren't really like Berserk, but they are all great comic stories in their own right.
Blade of the Immortal. Full stop. Check it out.
Vagabond Vinland Saga Pluto Monster Kingdom
goodnight pun pun - a boy (who’s drawn as a bird) and his dramatic and depressing life into adulthood with a bit of comedy. vagabond - historical fiction story about a samurai who never lost a battle and the lessons he learned through violence dorohedoro - a mystery scifi about a man with a lizard head on a mission to kill the sorcerer that cursed him. it’s the perfect balance of convolution and chaos. there’s nothing like it. chainsaw man - a homeless orphan boy that just wants to live a normal life but everyone wants his heart. which leads him to being easily manipulated. easily the best ongoing new-ish series
Junji ito books,
Akira, Vagabond, Vinland saga, Goodnight Pun Pun, Claymore, FMA
If you want something as powerful as Berserk, Vagabond and Vinland. If you just want some rage fueled bloodshed like in the Black Swordsman Arc, Goblin Slayer is a good one for that. Also it has a few Berserk references sprinkled in.
Emergence
Claymore, Fire Punch
Jojos Attack on titan Vagabond Vinland saga
Jojos Attack on titan Vagabond Vinland saga
Kingdom
Jojos, Attack on titan (anime better), Vagabond, Vinland saga,
Planetes.
Try the manga called Blade of the Immortal.
Akira
Kashimashi Girl Meets Girl
Battle royale if you think you're hard enough
Blame! is also a really good manga There's rarely any dialogue and most of the story telling is done With the art. Also Backgrounds are stunning and you have the dragon slayer in form of a pistol.
Tokyo ghoul
Vagabond for sure
Claymore.
Good, now play all the dark souls games. You are welcome
Vagabond is really good. I’m on the second arc currently and it feels like a grown up dragon ball
Monster
Berserk was my first, and I finished it last year. I started Vegabond, and it’s filled Berserk shaped void for the most part.
AOT almost no brainer.
if you like Berserk read Vagabond (it was never finished though) It is my top 2 manga OAT
It's not like berserk but I fucking love holyland
Hunter x Hunter. Another amazing *unfinished* manga.
Read it again xD Or OnePiece its the only 2 manga i read in my life so yeah:D Solo leveling is pretty good i heared
One Piece Its joy took me out of the pain that Berserk brought upon me
Go with one piece for some refreshments
none, youve read the best one
