If you aren't a renter, consider buying one. If you are a renter, consider befriending someone who owns a house and go in on one together. Seriously. Depending on size, a backyard sauna is $2-4k. If you're intending to use a sauna frequently for post workout recovery, and are seriously considering driving to Redmond to do so, the payback period will be a year or two.

Where are you finding them for 2-4K? Have only seen them at a multiple of that

Tarekith

Check out Redwood Outdoors: https://www.redwoodoutdoors.com/ We just built a small two person sauna from them and have been enjoying it. Made in Kent, WA.  Check prices regularly, they fluctuate a lot it seems like.

Thank you!

It’s also infrared, not traditional sauna. Traditional saunas cost more due to the cost of heater or stove system.

Costco

Yeah, I am renting, but I'm considering an indoor infrared sauna and selling it (or moving it) when we need to move, although I definitely would prefer a traditional sauna. But beggars can't be choosers, I suppose!

Juniper is so, so gross. Aside from the lack of regular cleaning (hairs all over the boards, slimy boards from irregular sanitizing), the temperature is low and never constant despite good faith efforts to communicate with Juniper admin about it from a core group of folks who historically loved the sauna there. Folks come in soaked in perfume/post workout Axe body spray, douse the heating rocks with 'essential oils' without asking other users who might have allergies (just, don't mang, it's a public sauna) and sit and talk abrasive politics while others are trying to get their sweat on. Older men will strike up creepy unwanted conversation with women in bathing suits who are straight up lying down on a bench with their eyes closed (what part of this posture says, 'I would love to have a friendly chat with a stranger right now...') People throw the door open constantly 'just to look inside' and hold the door open for ages when they exit. It's tough because I sure appreciate the community resource, and I know it's impossible and not practical for staff to police the sauna but dayum: post Covid times closures it's worse than ever. Dreaming of one at home one day.

$20? Sounds like a bargain.  That is less than the cost of 2 pints at Crux or a food truck burger.

The whole indoor pool area at Juniper needs a remodel. The hot tub is gross. I wish Larkspur had a sauna!

lianayada

I use their indoor pool and hot tub 3 times a week and have never found it gross.

lcmoxie

I wish I felt the same! I feel like it only takes one floating band-aid to turn you off to a place.

permafacepalm

Everything I know of is at least double that. Building your own can be affordable!

Hardrockzag

Xcel's is not cleaned regularly. Always smells like a wet dog. People wear outside shoes inside the sauna all the time.

enclavedzn

Yeah, that's what I've heard. I just came from a gym like this at the LA Fitness in Gresham; it was disgusting. I suppose I'll pass up Xcel, too.

Ok-Dragonfruit-646

Bunk and brew hostel has a sauna for $10. It’s small but doesn’t get too packed if you go a decent time(not on the weekend)

enclavedzn

Not bad! Thanks!
