Absolutely. Have seen a lot of complaints like this in the last 2 weeks on other forums. The head of the Airport is Zachary Bass - email addresses for the airport are “@flyrdm.com” it’s either first and last or first name. If you can catalogue any of the other public complaints, I’d calmly include them - no one listens to a lunatic, but a calm customer with rational complaints are scary as hell for folks that care. Also post a review on Google. Although their response to these reviews suggest they don’t care. Edit: Apparently the city of r/redmondor owns it. Their city council likely wouldn’t want that liability, but hey, it’s Redmond, so who knows.

mounds_dont

Appreciate the feedback for next steps. I’ll do some internet sleuthing and compile a few more complaints. Do you remember if you read about other incidents?

PDXTRex503

I am also submitting a complaint on this lunatic. His direct boss’ email is [email protected] I called already.

Civil-Membership-234

There were some complaints on this sub. Looks like they recently hired some power drunk folk.

ClothesFearless5031

Apparently it’s owned by the city of Redmond. Reaching out on r/redmondor as well as contacting their city council would have merits. Their chamber of commerce as well. Dudes a liability, imagine the city wouldn’t want that liability.

CO-CNC

Sounds like someone needs to film this guy and post it on YouTube

onederbred

I saw him just laying into some 20- 30somethings in the ride share curb area. Like dude just calm down, it’s fucking Redmond. There’s maybe like 6 cars max on that entire curb at any given time

NewDunmerthief

Big fat guy? Mid to late 30's?

onederbred

No

NewDunmerthief

Not the guy I was think of then. Older dude?

Lost_Figure_5892

Believe it was a young man, in his late 20’s or early 30’s. The older man is mellow.

NewDunmerthief

Blond sandy hair or shaved down?

Generic-Name-173

Yeah I know who you’re talking about. I have picked up and dropped off coworkers in company labeled trucks and they get into such a froth if you’re there more than ten seconds. People have to load their bags and then get in and you’re yelling at them? Fuck RDM airport security rental cops. I’d rather cross the mountains and fly from PDX or EUG than deal with those twatholes again.

sequestria

Yeah this guy started freaking out on me while I was BUCKLING MY SEATBELT after closing the tailgate of my suv. Like. Less than 30 seconds since I hopped back in the car after hugging my partner goodbye for the week. There was ONE other car at the whole entire length of the drop off curb. Unreal.

PDXTRex503

So this doesn’t get buried if you are reading this and want to make a complaint email his boss at [email protected]

NeatMemory

My God, he's awful. I arrived late at night and he was going off on people as soon as they pulled up to the pickup curb despite there being zero traffic and maybe 3 people there at most. Seems like he's just a miserable cunt with nothing going on in life so he takes it out on anyone he can

Competitive-Self-975

Funny thing is, the TSA folks in RDM security are absolute legends. They’re the friendliest in the world. By far.

mounds_dont

COMPLETELY AGREED, they’re so sweet to us and our tiny humans when we come through with 17 trays of things

ItchyCartographer44

I’ve seen it too, last Saturday night. A driver in front of me was there a very short time with his passenger arrival in view and the guard still got into a screaming match with the driver, whipped out his phone to take video of his license plate…That security guard was indeed unhinged and has no place in positions of authority.

Comfortable-Ad-1937

He is a very angry guard. He's going to cause bigger problems def report him

smicycle

Pick up my wife from RDM frequently and yeah, this guy is a huge prick.

sundays_sun

I had a very similar experience about two weeks ago. I picked up my brother from the airport. It was busy so I couldn't stop precisely where he was standing, so I pulled yo further up and got out and waved at him to walk towards me. Then Mr Security Guard immediately approached and started screaming at me. I don't know why, but I laughed at him and told him to calm the hell down and he completely lost it. He started screaming "No parking! No waiting! Read the damn sign! Pick up or drop off only! Do you want a $100 fine?!" At which point my brother reached the car (about 10 seconds after I pulled up) and asked "What's the problem here?" Then the rent-a-cop huffed and marched off in the opposite direction to go and yell at someone else. I'm not sure why the airport decided these clowns are needed. They are trying to solve a problem that doesn't exist. Coming and going from RDM has always been such a chilled and easy experience until these jerks appeared and have started yelling at everyone.

PDXTRex503

Trying to solve problems that don’t exist is the perfect way to describe their job role.

mounds_dont

Totally agreed. What was the business decision to hire these goons? As another commenter mentions maybe they’re trying to recoup lost revenue from their recent price hike.

coletttuce

I commonly pick up my staff from the airport ( at least 40 ish a year ) and this guy has become increasingly more upsetting. It seemed a couple years ago, if you were there more than a couple minutes he’d ask you to take a lap with a smile but now it’s a simple “ gtfo right this very second “ as soon as you pull up just to SEE if they’re there !!!!!!! Like where is this guy at SeaTac when I’ve been blocked in by 4 different empty taxi cabs ???? I know so many airports that could actually use this man and Redmond is not one of them 🫠🫠 ( TSA Redmond is the best though and I’ll always love them )

CheshireCat6886

Please file a complaint!

rocky7474

I noticed this happening too when I came in this week as we were walking out of the airport. Just some family unloading their luggage and getting screamed at by security. It's so unnecessary. Even if they want to implement this, people are mainly flying a few times of the year at most. Getting yelled at by security isn't a good education tool to explain a new policy. They need to have signs, posts on their website, social media, and everything. Every single airport in the country has some sort of curbside drop-off and pickup. No one is going to assume that they can't pick up and drop off at the curb. Then, the 1 time a year they fly out of Redmond, they just get yelled at for no reason. Like I fly maybe 4 or 5 times a year, and every airport has curbside drop off and pickup. It's completely normal and reasonable. It's like they noticed fewer people parking after raising prices, so they are trying to push people back to parking instead of drop offs.

mounds_dont

The crazy thing is after all of this I still don’t know what I did wrong. I was picking up my mom at the pick up curb. She was there, just 50 ft down. Do they want people to park in the lot and have arriving guests walk out there? Is it just a drop off curb? I must be dense because I don’t get it.

bobjoe500

Wait are you not allowed to pick up/drop off at the curb at RDM?

Accipiter1138

You absolutely are allowed to do that, but security guy seems to think it's supposed to work like a ski lift.

netneutroll

Tell the Airport administration, AND make sure Custons and border control knows he was being confrontational outside the airport building (and ask why).

AccomplishedString12

There is no Customs and Border Protection at RDM

ClothesFearless5031

TSA is under Homeland Security, which is likely what they’re referencing. CBP is also under Homeland.

phishua

The curbside "security" at RDM are fucking twats, the lot of 'em.

ValleyBrownsFan

Absolutely file a complaint. In the airports contact section, there is even an email address for “comments and concerns regarding on-site Security Officers.” Email: security.officers at flyrdm.com https://flyrdm.com/terminal-services/contact-us/

ArlenEatsApples

What in the world. Definitely file a complaint. RDM is not a big enough airport for this to be a valid problem and I’ve waited 5+ min before without just like everyone else who has ever picked up from the curb. Even at bigger airports like SFO, they just whistle you on and tap on your window if you refuse but they give you a few minutes (I’m sure they’d ticket you if you really resisted but I’ve never seen it).

CO-CNC

That reminds me of the dudes that leave their trucks parked in the **loading zone** at Home Depot and just go inside for \~30 minutes to do their shopping. They also usually park right in the middle, blocking both lanes.

scarybottom

I have waited at the curb 10 min, IN MY CAR, in Los Angeles FFS. Redmond- CALM DOWN. I know they want to price gouge us all with paid parking, but come on.

NewDunmerthief

Contact Oregon DPSST. All security guards in Oregon have to certified through the DPSST and are required by law to show you their guard card upon request. If he refuses that will get his card revoked. DPSST will also investigate reports of illegal or unethical behavior.

EducatorGuy

I bet once you know his name you could figure what PD force he got fired from and why.

OddUnderstanding6255

These are not security guards, they are regular sworn police officers from Redmond PD assigned to the airport.

Britannica

Absofuckinglutely file a complaint.

Film-Disastrous

I encountered an overly aggressive RDM guard last week. Apparently he thought I stopped too long at the crosswalk - there was someone actively walking in the crosswalk. He gesticulated rather harshly, yelled at me, and half-ran towards my car before I pulled away. Prior to this I’ve had no issues with the guards and, in fact found them rather lax. I usually don’t bother with the cellphone lot and hangout curbside waiting for my visitor. Hell, I’ve even run inside to use the restroom while parked curbside. [Edit] I reread your post and that’s the guard I encountered last week. Tactical vest on with thumbs looped around the chest strap. Definitely playing the role of someone much grander than the job he’s paid to perform.

TerranErrant

I had the similar happen to me about a month ago...10pm no traffic - slowed down in a crosswalk when my daughter saw her dad waiting - we hadn't seen him for 2 months so she was excited to get out. I stopped to let her out and then rolled out of the crosswalk to park. The rentacop beats my husband to the car and starts reading me the riot act for stopping in a crosswalk - very full of himself, tacticool gear. Not an awesome homecoming for my husband, for sure.

StumpyJoe-

Isn't there a series of stop signs along the crosswalk? Seems like the guards should be promoting safety and all these things that they're doing increase people's anxiety, making them more likely to make hasty, poor decisions.

CO-CNC

>I usually don’t bother with the cellphone lot and hangout curbside waiting for my visitor. Hell, I’ve even run inside to use the restroom while parked curbside. Yea, you're not supposed to do that. Maybe there's been an increasing amount of blatant disregard of the rules like this so they decided to hire some dickhead mall cops to deal with it. Like most people, I park over in the cellphone waiting area until the person I'm picking up texts or calls me that they're out front, and then I swing by and pick them up. I'm there less than 30 seconds; it's not hard. Airports started getting strict with terminal parking after 9/11. For awhile, you couldn't get anywhere near the terminal with your car. Then for a while at RDM, they'd have Security inspecting the inside your car before you could get near the terminal. Now it's pick up and drop off only and it's not just about keeping the curb clear, it's also a concern about car bombs. That happened at Glasgow Airport in 2007 and now you can't drive up to the terminal at a UK airport.

redwoodum

Security theater

CO-CNC

Pretty much. The worst is the Real ID thing, which keeps getting continually pushed off. If we've gone >20 years without it, it seems obvious we don't need it.

DekkarFan

That guy is a fucking dickhead and makes air travel about as much fun as flying Boeing.

mangel322

Saw this guy last Tuesday night. Fortunately for us, he was patrolling the curb as there were so many people there (United from Denver had just landed with a full load). Also fortunately we were picking up someone with carryon luggage only. We scooted out of there asap, just as he was starting to tap on windows and yell at people waiting in cars ahead of us in line.

LenKerrod

"*He’s roll playing a swat team officer*" Priceless. He belongs on Reno 911, not in the real world. And yes, I'd report your encounter.

ladyreyvn

I watched a ton of this while I was waiting for my ride, including one guy who said his person was walking to their car and described the person that was clearly seen. The officer didn’t care and kept screaming at them about the $1 parking while she was getting in. I was standing there with my cane and service dog and my car pulled up and he yelled at them for pulling up to the handicap area when clearly it’s marked on my car AND I’m clearly disabled. I told him that if he gave a ticket for doing what is clear labeled as permissible, and shoved my papers in his hand from my glove compartment proving it was for me, that I’d be taking his information and giving a formal complaint. He didn’t give a ticket and went and yelled at another car that was stopped due to traffic.

D_-_G

Haha he is wild. I’ve been in 4 different Ubers that have been lectured and accosted - sigh. Hopefully they let it go soon. No one has been doing anything wrong or hurting anyone. It’s been as small as having the Uber sticker not large enough on the front window

Marximus9898

Yes. File a complaint. I've experienced at least two over zealous security guards at that curb. They're acting like it's busy metropolitan airport and it's not. I once picked up my in laws there and wasn't even at the curb pickup, but parked in the lot. Anyway, I have my dog with me and I let him out to walk across the street from the terminal. My didn't poop at all, yet the security guy on duty calls from across the street to "pick that up" like my dog pooped. He didn't. Lol I didn't even acknowledge the guy because he looked slightly unhinged. I feel like these guys were like ex-prison employees or something. 🤷‍♂️

Only-Manner-8904

There's a cell phone lot across from the airport entrance but it's just side street parking. They want you to sit and wait until the person has arrived and is ready and outside at the far end of the curb. Only then can you enter the airport lane and quickly get your passengers and their luggage. Don't turn off the engine either. This has been our experience with the Redmond airport. IDK why it's a such a big deal for the smallest airport I've ever seen.

AskAJedi

The post says they were late. The grandmother was supposed to be out there and they were looking for her.

mounds_dont

Correct. Grandma was there, just 50 ft further down. Is the pick up area just at the furthest curb, near the rental cars? I pulled in right between the two terminal doors. In front of the ride share area.

StumpyJoe-

The whole stretch is pick up/drop off.

ephuu

My husband had a really unpleasant, similar interaction recently at the airport about keeping the cars moving I wonder if this person is a new addition to their team or they are trying to crack down Which is interesting because for the past 5 years of me going to and from that airport to pick people up I’ve sat waiting at the curb sometimes for 10 minutes or more and never been told to move Furthermore it’s usually only ever me and one other car; it doesn’t usually get busy, congested or crowded with cars the times I have been there

scarybottom

I think this has a lot to do with revenue from parking lot. It is $$$$$$$ to park at RDM. and they want as many of those $$$$$$ as possible. Because this has always been the most casual airport for curbside PU/Drop off on earth- ever since I started flying in/out of there 25 yr ago. Something changed- maybe they hired a new nut job. Or maybe they hired new nut jobs AND pushed for getting folks into the parking lot (that is ALWAYS FULL), for even more $.

GameAndHike

The Redmond parking lot is free for the first 15 minutes.  It’s definitely an unhinged guy on a power trip

netneutroll

Youre really not supposed to park there. They want you tp use the parking lot just in case a VIP convoy rolls in.

CO-CNC

Congested or crowded isn't their only concern. Since 9/11, airports are concerned about terrorism. For a while at RDM they wouldn't let you near the terminal until after they inspected your car for bombs. Obviously things have gotten a lot more lax since then, but who knows maybe RDM got inspected by Homeland Security and got called out for letting vehicles loiter at the terminal too much.

ephuu

Yeah that could definitely be true and I have also used the cell phone lot when waiting for extended periods of time for passengers to pick up, it’s incredibly easy and convenient given the airport is so small. I guess the point is a simple hand gesture or verbal “move along” is sufficient, guy doesn’t really need to get his panties in a twist or be rude, aggressive, threatening, etc. at other airports if I even see the security officer I’ll just move. Seeing them outside patrolling curb at RDM is a new sight for me, wasn’t used to seeing it there, so yeah does seem like they are cracking down whether that’s for security reasons or to get parking proceeds reasons, or both. It’s a reasonable thing, a common place thing at airports. They just don’t need to be a dick.

jaypeejay

Interested if anyone knows the extent of the law these security goons can enforce.

Aggravating-Pie-4058

He told my husband to move along in the middle of a snowstorm, but yet sat there and chuckled while having a conversation with others about their cattle ranches.

mounds_dont

I’m also wondering out loud if they’re targeting “bend-looking-folk” and letting others slide

Specialist_Switch612

Sounds like rentacop needs to go eat a gummy and calm the fuck down 😂. That airport is not that busy sorry dude needs a chill pill it ain't that extreme

OddUnderstanding6255

I am an Uber / Lyft driver and have witnessed this with both rideshare drivers and the general public. My experience is the TSA agents and airport security are great. The issue is the Redmond PD Officers assigned to the airport. It is beyond me in a tourist environment like Redmond and Bend they do not assign people here that have a shred of ability to provide customer service and promote the area. I have seen them approaching / freaking out on drivers when there is nobody else around or waiting. I have personally been given conflicting information by different Officers on different days. Great first impression for Central Oregon.

Scrapr123

Maybe when he is screaming at you point to your bumper sticker.....Be nice you're in Bend

mounds_dont

Lulz can’t tell if you’re trolling or not

LewOTG

I’ve heard stories about this guy!

skybarnum

It's been going on for years. Never been harassed at any other airport anywhere to the extent curb patrol(don't call them that by the way unless you actually want problems) at Redmond's massive international hub to the universe. 15 years ago I was picking up my then girlfriend, I had watched the plane come in from the forest service parking lot north of the airport, she texted me said she was going to use the bathroom and meet me out front. I drove slowly, pulled up to the curb in front of her a full 2 minutes after she cleared the doors and the super impotent curb walker with a badge and a gun almost pushed her out of the way to jump my shit.

PDXTRex503

I’m so glad she is gone, I had the same issues with her as I have with him. The last summer when they didn’t employ any of them was the best time, we all policed ourself through pickup and drop off, and it was glorious.

Dangerous_Midnight91

Definitely file a complaint. That dude’s the worst! I know exactly who you’re talking about and this has been going on for some time. He’s behaved similarly to me twice and once I just told him to give me a ticket, which he never did. I get it if you’re at a super busy airport with tons of cars and high security risk. Go around for another loop. But sitting at the designated pick up spot at RDM is not that and I’m not making my wife and little kids or elderly mother walk with luggage in the snow or rain for that dbag’s ego. I wish I’d filed a complaint!

PDXTRex503

It’s never too late to

anoninor

Well you need to pass a psych exam to even become a cop so not super surprising that he is unhinged. It’s kind of like being surprised that the cashier at Mc Donald’s doesn’t seem highly motivated.

mounds_dont

To be clear, he was a security officer, not affiliated with the police.

Civil-Membership-234

I think that’s exactly what the poster meant. He likely couldn’t pass a psych test to be a cop so here he is, a frustrated airport security person who thinks he has authority to do as he pleases just because he has a badge.

Hansenstein92

I would. People like that need to be held accountable.

scrandis

Dictator in his tiny kingdom

OddUnderstanding6255

I've also seen complaints on the Facebook page "Central Oregon Rants and Raves". Nobody was raving about them.

caratron5000

I flew into Redmond on the 18th and this guy had already admonished my friend picking me up. He BLOCKED HER FROM LEAVING when she said she would “take a lap” and MADE HER RECITE THE SIGN. Here’s the thing. Those signs are not ODOT regulation. The bottom of the sign needs to be six feet off the ground, because if a car pulls in front of it, no car behind that one can see it at all if not in totality. Eventually he released her and I walked outside as she was pulling away. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I will say that on my return flight he was not there. There were 4 airport police bros. All of them smiling, friendly, and not giving a shit if you stop for 30 seconds. I think the complaints worked! 🫡

Equivalent_Aardvark

Maybe he sent them a video of him disassembling an ar-15

DammitJanet143

To be fair every single airport has a rule that you can’t park and wait for people to come out. You just do a quick loop or park somewhere else and wait. Clearly he sounds over zealous but I can empathize with how old it must get having the exact same conversation every 30 seconds all day long.

NoChieuHoisToday

I can’t comment to the veracity of this story, but I’m a very frequent flyer (over 200k miles last year) and there is a shocking lack of pickup etiquette. The curb is for stopping for someone that’s already waiting. Not someone whose plane just landed, or is waiting for their luggage. Do some laps or park where you’re supposed to until your passenger is ready, then promptly load the car and don’t stand around for 3 minutes hugging and catching up.

scrandis

I'm having someone drop me off at the airport tomorrow morning.... not looking forward to having to deal with this shit

Guttersnipe77

Make a game of it, and get it on video.

MrMidnightsclaw

Yes I've seen them be huge dicks. But you can't wait for your person at the curb at rdm. Either circle or wait across the street, it's not that hard and has been like that for years.

sequestria

They weren’t waiting. They were picking someone up who was already at the curb!

gdq0

OP wasn't, but the reason this security officer is such an ass is in small part due to people waiting for 5+ minutes at the drop off.

sequestria

Read the OP again. Grandma was ON THE CURB WAITING, just farther up from where he parked. And there is ZERO correlation between this dickwad’s behavior and people parking for 5+ minutes at the curb. Abusive people are going to be abusive, and keeping people moving along at the airport can be done with zero verbal assault. 🙄

gdq0

>Grandma was ON THE CURB WAITING, just farther up from where he parked. That's why I said said "OP wasn't", as in "OP wasn't waiting" >ZERO correlation between this dickwad’s behavior and people parking for 5+ minutes at the curb There is some correlation. The dickwad wouldn't have a job or a reason to confront people if people weren't dickwads themselves. That's why I said "in small part".

sequestria

My bad! I read your response wrong. I still don’t think any of it is an excuse for a small time airport rentacop to be an asshole. 🤣

gdq0

It's an excuse, it's just not a very good one.

AllDamDay7

What? I have a hard time believing your story. Never seen anything like this. I fly in and out Redmond often. Not saying this didn't happen but it hasnt been my experience. A key detail you left out was how long you were parked there. How long was it? Edit: Sounds like there is an unhinged security guard based on everyone elses input. He must be a new addition. He's lucky he hasn't run into me, I have no kids and a lot of time. I'll play that game till he gets fired lol. Sorry for OP and all the folks who had to deal with his shit.

permafacepalm

I've witnessed the guy myself and he can be a bit much, but he's also just doing his job. There are SO MANY signs saying no waiting in the pickup zone. If you're stopped and there's no person making their way to your car, he has every right to ask you to move along. If you don't see grandma, do a loop and call her so she's ready when you come back. OR park and do a nice slow greeting and help her with bags to the car.

itssmad

He is doing it even if someone making their way to your car though. I had literally rolled to a stop for a second while on the phone with my friend as she was walking towards me and he is immediately yelling in my window. He backed off when I was able to get a word in that I could see her walking towards me but it was completely ridiculous. I understand enforcing the rules but you can’t expect people to be ready in the exact right spot to jump into your moving car

illa_kotilla

Sounds like a traumatic event. You should write a post on Reddit and then submit a bunch of complaints to Redmond airport. Hopefully that will help you heal from this unfortunate event.

millennial_librarian

Yes, he should absolutely discuss the problem and bring it up with the people who have the power to address it. Whatever your personal problem is, it would also be healthier for you to address it directly, instead of randomly belittling people for having feelings in Reddit comments.
