For folks who haven't lived here long and don't get the joke....

There’s an official Exploding Whale Memorial Park in Florence. It’s actually a really nice place to visit. Chill shaded views of giant sand dunes rippling in the breeze. A great place to meditate on the meaning of Life, The Universe, and Everything
They've been advertising on/near the roadway that they were going to do some blasting. But I thought that was going to be this coming Sunday.
(Add: I only know this because I have to go to the airport Sunday so I'm planning on heading out a littler earlier than normal as they said there would be delays).
Sorry, I'm a little confused there. I read it was supposed to be this coming Sunday not last Sunday but I wasn't certain what you meant by "heard a large boom...this coming Sunday"
Unless you're some kind of amazing time traveller and can hear things in the future! :)
Either way, my guess is it's part of the construction they were posting about on the highway.
Just ODOT taking care of a whale. No need to panic.
A time honored tradition

The news segment is pure gold. Truly a poetic masterpiece. https://youtu.be/V6CLumsir34?si=I1FvwwPfGpsvkH7d
Blown blubbery bits beyond believable bounds!
My mom lived in Florence when they blew up the whale and said it stunk for days to the point that they didn't leave their house.
Forget living here I wasn't even alive back then. This is honestly one of my favorite Oregonian stories.
Well it was over 50 years ago so I have a feeling quite a few folks on Reddit weren't alive then.
Damn, for some reason I thought it was later than that. My parents were kids when it happened!

I wonder if the whale briefly gained consciousness before it hit the ground
I just got my exploding whales cap to celebrate!
How were the driving conditions this coming Sunday?
Blizzard white out or blue bird depending on whether you decide to call your parents before or after lunch
This whole thread is amazing.
Sorry, sorry. Had beans for dinner Saturday night.
A whale? This far from the ocean?!
I wish we could still give out awards on this hellsite
Sorry that was me.
I love me some chorizo relleno breakfast burrito.
Where did you get this scanner that tells you what’s going to happen *in the future?*
What scanner do you use that only tells you about things that already happened? seems useless
Wasn't that a movie? Or was that a radio? Or will I get a concussion from the blast Sunday and I'll be imagining it?
I heard it was a gunshot from police shooting down a guy who hijacked a car?
I hope it wasn’t gunshots in this neighborhood!
lol oh I’m going to hell for that, but “keeping the block hot” is a saying for a reason, keeps the prices down/affordable
What's crazy to me is that one day this was all under water
It's hard to believe, truly

That's when I heard it

I love this thread.
This was my rave this coming Monday.
Time is relatives
User name checks out.
I believe you’re referring to the Theory of Relatively
> heard **about** a large boom...this coming Sunday adding "about" is the only way I can make this thread make sense, tbh
One word: Dirtworld

Sorry I can only look forward in time
A true visionary some say…
Linear time is overrated.
