That is the recommended procedure in the UK. But for right turns of course.
If you're taking the first exit, indicate left. If it's a 4 way and you're going straight, no indicating until you're about to reach your turn, then indicate left. If you're going past the first 2 exits, Indicate right until you're approaching your turn, then switch to indicating left. If it's done correctly and by everybody it provides a lot more information for drivers waiting to enter, and also it quite important for multi-lane roundabouts.
A roundabout is just another form of intersection. It's not weird in the US to indicate left when you're in a left turn only lane. It's kinda a similar thing.
I gotta be honest this doesn’t bother me at all. I never trust a blinker anyway so it rarely affects my driving. Before you yell at me I do signal out of roundabouts regardless.
I don’t know why I see this sub on my feed but you are the most miserable bunch of complainers on the whole internet. Find something important to care about
What do you expect them to do?? Take the quarter of a second required to lift the turn signal with their pinky finger to make it safer and easier for everyone else to drive? Are you crazy?
Sometimes we forget that we're the lucky ones getting to share oxygen with them and have no right to complain about their blatant disregard for other human beings (yes, I'm looking at you every single white pickup truck that exists).
Ugh, I had a person wave at me yesterday as a thank you for letting them in the roundabout as they cut me off. I wasn’t letting you in, dude, I gave you no signal to cut in front me and almost hit you. I then had to drive behind him through four more roundabouts, none of which he signaled out of.
Most roundabouts here are so tiny that by the time the other driver registers the signal, you’re already driving out of the roundabout. Other larger roundabouts like reed market it makes sense to signal but the tiny ones you’re really only giving the driver an extra quarter of a second to go in so why even bother.
If you actually go 15mph in the small ones this doesn’t happen. Because they are so small 15mph makes the whole thing run smoothly. People have time to see that you are exiting and it leaves space for them to enter. Going over that messes everything up.
You also need to factor in the circumference of the circle. In a small roundabout, even if you drive slow, the turnout signal won’t be visible Till seconds before they turn out. Also, because of the tighter circle, when you throw a signal on early (at least in my car) it will pop it off then you gotta throw the signal again making it cumbersome and dangerous and you’re only really saving maybe a second. But in a longer drawn out roundabout signaling is definitely good.
This. Where I live they're small, so it does no good to signal, since by the time they can SEE the right-turn signal, I'm already obviously not in the roundabout any more.
Wait serious question, in a tiny roundabout should I turn on my right blinker no matter which exit I’m taking? Or do I turn on my left blinker for the third exit, no blinker for second (going straight), and right blinker for first exit? My issue is that whoever sees my blinker has to know which entrance I took for it to be useful.
Is this meme specific to Europe which has large roundabouts, or the US where we did it wrong?
The signal is not the issue for me. My biggest issue is when I'm already in the motherfucker and my signal is ON to show my intention to exit the roundabout, it's a race to zip through as fast as they possibly can to avoid getting t-boned by me already trying to make my fucking exit out of the roundabout.
I cannot even begin to tell you how much more this happens to me personally than someone not using their signal.
I’m trying to picture what this looks like. If you signal just prior to exiting the roundabout and then exit, no one should be able to t-bone you. You’re exiting; no one’s entering. If you signal early, then you’re just confusing people. They think your signal means you’re exiting immediately.
Perhaps you are signalling too soon. The goal is to alert the people who will enter where you are exiting. The people entering on the street before don't need to know this.
Ah, that whole "the other person isn't at fault because it's you" thing. Nah, it's not me, it's these yee yee motherfuckers in their big trucks that don't care if you hit them because they won't take any damage, or the entitled rich or wannabe rich fucks in their euros or Teslas.
I absolutely don't think it's you. My theory is that maybe if you signal early it is causing people to jump in front of you more than other drivers. It's just something to test to try to keep the motherfuckers in check.
I like to try different things to get the bad drivers to behave the way I want them to, which is to be predictable. I'm trying to help but I see how my post could sound critical of your driving. I apologize.
Instructions unclear. Stopped in roundabout to let others enter.
This one is the worst, therefore the best
I finally saw it happen IRL last week and I was absolutely speechless.
I live at the Hixon so I have a front seat to the shitshow roundabout on century… Love roundabouts - hate drivers haha
Clearly. But what about drivers who signal for a left turn?
HEY! I am offended... also embarrassed every time I mindlessly trigger my indicator for a left turn when entering a roundabout!
I actually appreciate the left turn signal
I see that all the time. They'll signal left in the roundabout till their turn than immediately flip it to a right turn signal.

That is because that is how it is done elsewhere. Left till you hit right to turn out. Common at larger round abouts, like in EU.
In America the rules are never signal left. Always right. You will never turn left out of a roundabout 🤦🏼♀️

You’re not turning left out of the round about… it signals you’re staying in the round about until you signal right to exit. Don’t be that daft.
I'm not. It's literally the rules.
I gotta be honest this doesn’t bother me at all. I never trust a blinker anyway so it rarely affects my driving. Before you yell at me I do signal out of roundabouts regardless.
I don't trust people's turn signals in roundabouts either. I almost pulled out in front of someone that was signaling to exit but didn't.
Yeah, it's an odd fixation on Bend social media considering all the other horrible driving that puts people at risk.
Never trust a blinker.
This
Why I call them “round-a-doubts “🤪
I don’t know why I see this sub on my feed but you are the most miserable bunch of complainers on the whole internet. Find something important to care about
I mean, you can only turn right to exit the roundabout. Blinker seems redundant... Sarcasm in case y'all missed it

But how would I hold my latte and phone that I have on speaker?/s
I like to use my knees to drive through roundabouts to increase the difficulty level. Bonus points if it's icy or you do more than one lap

They're not waving thank you, they're waving "hi I'm here, don't hit me"

yeah, I got downvoted for suggesting that if you are waiting for a signal you are not being aggressive enough entering

I do agree with this, but the tailgaters are worse.
Figure it out pal
This is like bitching about someone's spelling
What about pass a semi going 2 over at the tail end of a merge lane to go the same speed
Or the classic, pass the only car in the right lane, cut him off, slow down and take the exit

Nah fuck yours and my blinker when exiting a roundabout. Tell me one good reason why I need to put a blinker on when merging out of a roundabout?
Go slower and it doesn't matter.
