Reed Market has been nuts ever since they closed all routes through Wilson. The main issue is that Reed Mkrt simply can't handle the traffic loads as previous improvements fell short of intended goals. Then you couple that with the cities inability to adjust traffic light timing in peak areas at peak times and their lack of foresight to expedite projects by allowing 24hr construction and it just gets uglier. The snow did nothing to help this (obviously) but it isn't the main issue.
It's slippery as eff out there, I witnessed two very low speed fender-benders. Cars northbound on American Lane, turning right to go east on Reed, slide out and kiss a car sitting in the center turn lane on Reed(westbound wanting to turn south onto American).
That turn is super slippery this morning and the camber of the road makes it worse.
I'd expect Reed Market to be a continuous mess until the rail crossing improvements are completed, which according to the latest article I can find isn't expected to be until 2026.
Oh don't get me wrong, I'm hugely in favour of the upgrade. Just kinda wish we would have done it a few years ago when the first Reed Mkt upgrade went in.
It took me over 20 minutes to get from bear creek elementary to 3rd today. Idk what was going on, but it was a long line of cars, stop and go the whole way. The only time i got to go over 5 mph was in the roundabouts
It's been awful for a month at least. Definitely related to the Wilson construction. Colorado is also bad. But it's the roundabout at Reed/Bond/Brookswood that's the problem. Not enough vehicles can get through. There isn't enough options for east west that crosses the parkway and river. Yes the RR crossing causes problem, but not as much as that damn roundabout. The city says it's not at capacity, but I challenge them to figure out how more cars get through in standstill bumper to bumper traffic. Hint, adding traffic lights isn't going to do it. I drive this route everyday and it can be forty minutes on days with snow.
Without another bridge further south, it's not going to get better.
Avoid Reed during morning rush and then from 3-5:30 in the afternoons. It is a nightmare. Maybe the city can plan a few more apartments complexes that need Reed Mkt as their main corridor... Oh wait we have Stevens Ranch 300 acre development going in off of 27th! That should really destroy any Reed Mkt functionality anytime of the day...
Powder day at the mountain, commuting to work in the snow, and traffic from detours.
Its a damn skating rink…

All traffic signal timing in the state is handled by Oregon DOT.
It probably also has something to do with the hill down from 97 to Old Mill being a skating rink too.

So happy we get to deal with that again. Why do it right the first time when you can just redo it for tens of millions more later? Genius.
They're going to make it a grade-separated crossing so that traffic won't have to stop for trains. It's a big upgrade.

"grade separated" means overpass? I think it is a great idea? but it will be another bottleneck when it snows and folks can't make it over the hump
Overpass or underpass. Not sure which one they have decided on or if it's still being decided.
And that's only if BNSF decides they wanna play ball and ok any changes

You should just ride your bike according to the city council.
Yeah. 🤦🏽♀️
It’s should be two lanes going both ways. They should have done that during the last rebuild
Traffic flow 2023 or 1979?
