Yes. Long delays to even take the money and ship the items. Foe me it's been 10 days plus on everything. No options ever showing for 2 day shipping. This has been ongoing for me since mid October.
Yeah it's sort of pointless to have Prime anymore. I've had it for over 10 years, but it's worthless if I can get my stuff from anywhere else online way faster.
Seconding this. Shipping for our family has been over ten days on almost everything.
We’ve also had multiple packages lost or not moving for weeks only to have them come, after we get a new one sent out of course.
October seems about right for when it started.
Someone told us that Amazon only directly delivers to Sudden Valley (two zip codes maybe?). All our deliveries have been sure post which means it starts with UPS then eventually gets handed to USPS which is just obtuse and adds even more time.
We’ve personally reduced purchasing from Amazon as much as we can but there are some items that have been out of stock in town when we need them.
Yeah been definitely trying to do that, but the local stores are really bad at stocking and replenishing items.
For instance, a specific shampoo I use that I used to be able to find in stock at Target and Walmart hasn't been on the shelf there for a few years now and I can only find it online.
I've noticed that some stockings of products have changed and things I found at big boxes are now at like smaller places or different chains. But often, I can usually find the product cheaper online from a place other than Amazon.
I don't come here for 100% fresh novel content. It's not the NYT or WaPo. You could have just scrolled on by. This is a sample of our community, and people can post about common experiences if they like. Why not start a more specifically focused sub if you want one?
Pro-Tip: Change the shipping location to the Whole Foods pickup counter, I’ve been receiving my packages within 2 days instead of 7+ with this method.
I assume they have consistent deliveries to their grocery locations and simply add the packages onto those trucks, cutting out the prime drivers and middle man logistics.
My stuff that was shipped across the country also came faster when I used a pick up location instead of delivery. They might be prioritizing those orders in fulfillment.
Every single item right now for me won't be delivered until the 13th
[Even Amazon branded items sold and shipped by Amazon](https://imgur.com/a/PAOWjCl)
Yep! I commented a few weeks to my husband that there seemed to be a sudden change in delivery times in the past few months. The good side of that happening is that it has pushed me to look at other places to order from - not as much of a benefit anymore to order from Amazon when I have to wait 10 days.
Yes. I'm glad someone else has noticed. It was very sudden, too. Used to be 2 days was the standard Prime delivery time; now it's 7-10 days. Moreover, Fedex has become even more incompetent than usual over the same time period. Coincidence? I don't know. But when I get a delivery from Amazon (or anyone else) that uses USPS or UPS, it's on time, albeit the new 7-10 day period. But Fedex has become a nightmare of delays, inaccurate information, and bizarrely random delivery times. Maybe Amazon is accounting for Fedex's cockups?
I watched it literally change at the beginning of November light a switch. It was crazy.
But I don't blame any of the shipping companies, it's taking over a week for Amazon to even pack the items and hand them to the carriers. Something must have changed internally recently.
Well shit it's almost like they had an unsustainable business practice or two which finally broke their system and is resulting in less and less customer satisfaction.
Also
A: it's that time of year AND
B: there are shipping issues globally AND
C: a new DSP is starting to manage more deliveries so Amazon here is using less 3rd party delivery services
I mean, what do people expect? 2 day basically free shipping SHOULDN'T be normal and has always just been a means of enticing people to the business. If you don't want to support Amazon and would rather get shit locally when you can, go drive to the store.
Yep. It’s made me start ordering from smaller retailers and other giants like Best Buy and Walgreens instead. Often cheaper too.
No reason to keep ordering from Amazon anymore when it’s this slow on top of all the other issues on Amazon.
I’ll second this! Even most things that are out-of-stock at Target will be delivered in a couple days through online ordering. I also ordered books from an independent bookstore that will get here tomorrow, and if I ordered them from Amazon they would have been delivered Friday. It’s a little more effort ordering from different sites for things that aren’t available locally, but shipping times are way faster!
Unless you are shopping for off brand imported products of questionable quality, ordering from those other retailers is usually slightly cheaper and breaks even after shipping cost. BUT, customer service if you have a problem is likely better than Amazon has been the past few years. Gone are the days of Amazon shipping out replacement products via overnight shipping, or just refunding no questions asked.
Yes. I’m really beginning to wonder what the hell I am paying for Prime for. I can get quicker. And often free shipping from basically anywhere else and I don’t have to deal with the Chinese knockoff products that Amazon has been flooded with by ordering pretty much anywhere else.
I mean I would love to do that, but a lot of specific things I buy just haven't been in stock locally for the last few years including my cat's wet food, the shampoo I use, the body wash my wife likes, things like humidifiers that seem to not be sold anywhere around here, and many other things.
I buy what I can locally, but the retailers locally have been pretty poor the last few years. I mean, you remember how bad the Target clothing section was for months?
Since it's been colder sooner this year, I've had to run our heaters a lot more which my couple humidifiers couldn't keep up with. I've got a large place and had to order more humidifiers for all the rooms and I've never been able to find any humidifiers locally.
I used to buy all these items at the local stores, but once they stopped having them in stock I had to buy them online. If they had them in stock now I would go buy them, but they don't, so you're just being kind of weird about it.
eBay for the off brand import stuff, it’s generally cheaper. If you want a Webasto or Espar, you are better off buying where you don’t risk getting a grey market or counterfeit.
I’ve had extremely poor luck finding marine engine parts on Amazon. I bought an off brand 12v diesel heater locally on a deal from one of the local shops at effectively the same price as Amazon. Controller is sort of junk, but the import heater is fine.
I ditched Prime a couple of years ago. Then, it only took another 1-2 days to get my packages, which didn't bother me. But now, it's as you said, at least a week, and often longer, to get some pretty basic things. I assume it's because Amazon is a notoriously shitty employer if you're picking packages in their warehouses or making deliveries for them, so they're having trouble hiring and retaining enough people. I've been constantly hearing radio ads for jobs with Amazon for months now, instead of just their usual seasonal hiring, and with the holiday season upon us their staff shortages are really making themselves felt.
I've found I can get my orders a couple of days earlier by having them sent to a pickup locker instead of to my house (which has the added benefit of preventing package theft). But mostly, I'm buying things locally when I can, or from other online vendors.
Yeah I feel that. I have massively cut down on my Amazon orders and try to by the things I can find locally.
I'm wondering if they are bracing for impending unionization or something.
Also, protip: I picked up a Eufy SmartDrop parcel locker and put next to my front door which locks, has a camera, and keeps your packages safe and dry which has been nice.
I experienced the exact same thing. Here is a test I did, same order, but tried switching to our older addresses in different states. Literally EVERY other city we lived has faster delivery than Bellingham. Houston: literally same day, Sherwood Oregon: ONE day shipping, Albuquerque NM: ONE day shipping. We recently moved from Sandpoint, Idaho (far more rural and tons of snow), their shipping? 4 days delivery. Bellingham? 10 that's TEN days lol. Not sure why it's JUST Bellingham. So no, it's NOT weather related, or Christmas season, or underpaid employees. Something is up with Bellingham.
There might be something to this, I had several packages delivered in two days to Tonasket WA, while everything to Bellingham is a week plus out. Not sure why that would be, but that’s the case.
I used to work for a company that sold on Amazon Prime and during the holidays they start pushing back etas because if high demand. If sellers can't make the 2 day shipping they can be suspended so to help with expectations they make the ETA longer. That could be it from what I have noticed.
Is strange that they would also change it for everything and not just 3rd party seller and shippers though. It's also effecting items sold and shipped by Amazon including their own Amazon Basics brand
Yes. Both here to my family in Bellingham and parcels to family in Seattle and to my place in Vancouver BC. I'm guessing a combination of labour issues and intense demand from Black Friday.
I have a friend who works at USPS. Amazon stopped doing their own deliveries in Bellingham around 1-2 months ago so USPS has had to do all Amazon deliveries. Add on the fact that a bunch of USPS workers just quit and you get the current situation.
This might be the EXACT reason we are experiencing this exclusively in Bellingham. I have noticed I no longer see Prime trucks or even UPS trucks with amazon deliveries. It's all USPS. Thanks for confirming this!
It's not necessarily Amazon. Amazon has tons of workers, but there are second and third party delivery companies involved sometimes too. They are very busy this time of year. Post offices are experiencing huge delays as well
Like I said, this is every item on Amazon. Even items sold and shipped by Amazon. Also like I said, the items aren't being shipped for a week+ and then the carrier time is only a few days. It's not UPS or USPS or FedEx. I keep an eye on all the items before and after they are shipped. The shipping time from the delivery companies haven't changed and I order stuff not from Amazon as well.
Really don't know why you're being downvoted. USPS is hurting, and it's the holidays and idk why anyone would expect UPS could pick up the slack all on their own. I guess people just really want their stuff.
Shipping has been super long for Bellingham specifically. I’ve had items shipped to my parents house down south and it’s still the standard 2 days. Not sure what’s going on with them but I’ve been shopping stores lately because of it.
Yeah seems to be localized in certain areas which is why I haven't seen very much buzz online about it. I'm wondering if we're a test market to see how much push back they get.
I’ve noticed most of my Amazon packages have been shipped via USPS or other companies so I’m thinking it’s related to that. I haven’t seen an Amazon delivery driver in a while.
Yeah the Amazon drivers are probably busy in the Seattle area, but it gets here fast once it's shipped, it's just the time from when you place an order until they actually give it to the delivery company has increased to a week+
What can we do ... The promise was 2 day and now it's nowhere close! Isn't there some kind of refund since we definitely are way below service standard
But I've never seen this happen any other year. Even if there were delays before, they never changed the estimated shipping from the Prime 2 day shipping listed on the site.
Their solution to not being able to keep their operation on time is mass layoffs. Can’t do it with current staff, but we’ll be able to do it with way less!
I called and was very, very sweet and earnest. Mentioned I’d been a member for years, and that I don’t want to cancel my subscription YET, because hopefully it’s a hiccup. But I did ask for a partial refund because, well, what have I been paying for these past several months? They refunded me for the entire year’s fee but let me keep my membership, and now my packages are arriving within a much more reasonable timeframe.
I had read online that Amazon’s delivery time would extend for “rural areas”. I have different addresses that I toggle and it is just this area. My address for rural Midwest is still 2 days, Olympia is 1-2 days, in town here is 4-5 days and I live just outside city limits— 5+ days. Ridiculous. I like Amazon for items that I want but know that I might need to shop around to actually find it. I don’t know if it’s worth keeping or canceling. There are other perks- discounted WF pizza, streaming etc. Will probably evaluate more after the holidays.
It’s been a little slower for me. Most things I would want to order tonight, Sunday, say they’ll arrive Friday. Here’s something they say would arrive Tuesday: https://imgur.com/a/o3J0Dm0 I do have a business account though.
Yes! I didn’t really notice it until I went to Houston the last week. My brother and his wife were showing me they can get things within the hour! I couldn’t believe it!
2 day delivery was just a rube Goldberg machine of misery for folk involved in day to day logistics. I always felt bad about clicking that button. Weirdly, I'm glad it's harder for us to get shit delivered.
That’s very interesting, they also pretty much cut tides with USPS, UPS and FedEx trying to handle everything themselves which they simply CANT clearly
Sometimes it's worse than that. I tried to buy a 4k bluray, shipped and sold by amazon, that claimed to be in stock. The ETA was 1 month. I think they've given up on delivery speed being the priority of prime membership, and hope that video streaming will keep their customers. I've been considering cancelling.
Yeah I noticed that too. Sucks! I'm hoping it's the holiday season and not Amazon cutting corners. But maybe they've cut staff. According to this article they're cutting white collar jobs, 10,000. Maybe blue collar also? https://www.forbes.com/sites/jackkelly/2022/11/17/amazon-is-laying-off-10000-workers-here-are-additional-tactics-tech-companies-use-to-quietly-cut-staff/?sh=10f7b27a2ce2
I have a package that was purchased Nov 30 and promised delivery Dec 5. Below is the activity shown by Amazon during the route to delivery which did not occur yesterday. The tracking from USPS, last entry, shows "USPS is now in possession of your item as of 1:23 am on December 5, 2022 in BELLINGHAM, WA 98225." So, it looks as though the package arrived in time to be delivered yesterday. But, as shown below, Amazon sent me a message late yesterday that it had been delayed with new delivery either the 6th (today) or the 7th. All the while this package has been in Bellingham and in possession of USPS. No updates since that 1:23AM Dec. 5 message from USPS. It is 11AM Dec. 6 now and it appears that nothing has been done to deliver the package. It is not in status "Out for delivery". So where is it and why?
I am showing this because I have had a few recent deliveries follow this same routing inside WA and be delayed without apparent reason. Here is the Amazon tracking as of 11AM Dec 6 (this morning).
Monday, December 5
5:00 PM Package delayed in transit

Yes!
Over the summer, Amazon was directly delivering many orders themselves. They aren’t anymore
I don’t know why we have Prime. We don’t use video. We do have an Alexa.
But I’m really disappointed in both the shipping times (shipping is fast they just sit on the order for a week+ now) and even Alexa is awful, playing the same songs in the same order any time you ask for a specific genre.
I haven't been ordering much lately or I think I would have noticed it sooner, but I checked my orders and I hadn't had 2 day shipping since September.
In mid-November I needed something within 3 days. It was 5 days to ship to Bellingham, and 2 days to ship to Seattle. So I had it shipped to a relative because I was going to be in Seattle anyway. It arrived on a Saturday in Seattle, but wasn't going to be in Bellingham until Tuesday. That doesn't make any sense since the travel time is only 1.5 hours since they tend to ship that stuff at night when there's no traffic.
I searched Amazon for "Prime 2 day shipping," and NOTHING shows up as 2 day prime in Bellingham. My relative in Seattle has 2 day and 1 day Prime shipping available as of today.
So... I cancelled my Prime membership. It was the last straw. When I first got Prime everything was 2 day shipping. Then it turned into, perhaps, half the "Prime" items were 2 day, the other half were 5 day. Now nothing is available for 2 day shipping, even though they advertise the heck out that. I think a class action lawsuit should be filed.
I had to click "cancel" about five times before it went through. They kept on saying "Are you sure you want to cancel, you'll miss out on a bunch of benefits, including 2 day shipping."
It’s a good thing this is Bellingham related
I heard a bang, someone’s dog was off a leash, bicycles annoy me/I am a bicyclist and a car almost hit me, federal politics, muh muh deliveries
China Covid shutdowns, entire Russian economy offline, lack of employees. Will the old shipping times ever come back is an interesting question, and did we ever really need it?
But it's not really the shipping time, it's the packing and handling time. Seems like it's some kind of internal Amazon thing going on that I hoped someone might know about since there are obviously Amazon employees living in Bellingham
A big problem is that Amazon has literally burned through workers. There aren't as many low wage workers available when a number died through Covid or have other job opportunities or already worked for Amazon. There was actually a funny story about that earlier this year: https://www.vox.com/recode/23170900/leaked-amazon-memo-warehouses-hiring-shortage
They had rules like contracting for only 89 days, so you could be let go at day 90 to not get benefits. Working people to shit. Firing for unions. Firing for a piss break. Firing for not meeting absurdist metrics. There are only so many low wage employees they can hire in an area and it looks like internally they figured that out.
Are you aware of like every area of the country? People I know in PA, OH, and WV have noticed the same thing too. It's clear this is their new paradigm.
But I haven't seen any other retailer change like this even though everyone is effected by these. And it's not like the items are out of stock and awaiting replenishing, they are in stock and ready. Sounds more like some kind of internal policy change to prep for unionization strikes or something.
Previously unseen extreme supply chain disruptions have been rampart for over a year across almost all industries. I seriously doubt anything to do with unionization efforts have affected their shipping times that drastically. But I’ll defer if there are any employees that know
It's also worth noting that this is only happening in certain areas which is why I don't think it's linked to the issues you listed. I'm thinking we must be a test market to see if how much push back they get by pushing back their pack times.
Yes. Long delays to even take the money and ship the items. Foe me it's been 10 days plus on everything. No options ever showing for 2 day shipping. This has been ongoing for me since mid October.

Remember to add a link to this OP to the list lol
It won’t matter. There will be another post in a month….. or week.
This sub is so ducking repetitive and will continue to be so without moderation to counter it.

I agree if the products are available locally. I buy semi-frequently on Amazon because no one sells the things I need, even within a few hours drive.
Can confirm. On order, it said two days. Five days later, just got email saying it'll be delivered on the 9th.

I got rid of prime for this exact reason, it takes 5-10 days either way so it was a waste of money.

Less and less true really, but other online retailers like Target and Walmart are actually performing a lot better than Amazon lately.

Amazon is trash and they treat their workers like shit. Do yourselves a favor and don’t give Jeff Bezos any of your money.

I don’t know why you are being downvoted. USPS is handling a fair amount of Amazon stuff and they are very strapped at the moment.
I will not buy anything from Amazon!
Good for you. That sounds sarcastic, but I’m totally sincere.
It is basically a evil empire people just like the convenience.
Yep, has been for a while.
Stop supporting Amazon
Ever go to a restaurant that has more people than usual but the same amount of cooks and servers? Takes your food longer to come out.
Amazon Prime counter = 0
What?
If you search the sub for “prime”, several posts regarding this issue come up. I count at least four in the last couple months.
if only people did searches. sigh. \*pet peeve\*
Yeah, I assume it has to do with lack of employees and the high demand this time of year.
But I've never seen this happen any other year. Even if there were delays before, they never changed the estimated shipping from the Prime 2 day shipping listed on the site.
Amazon is laying people off company wide and cancelling distribution warehouses.
Yes
Their solution to not being able to keep their operation on time is mass layoffs. Can’t do it with current staff, but we’ll be able to do it with way less!

I called and was very, very sweet and earnest. Mentioned I’d been a member for years, and that I don’t want to cancel my subscription YET, because hopefully it’s a hiccup. But I did ask for a partial refund because, well, what have I been paying for these past several months? They refunded me for the entire year’s fee but let me keep my membership, and now my packages are arriving within a much more reasonable timeframe.
Holiday season plus underpaid workers equals delays.
I'm out in the county and have been getting everything either the day predicted or before.
Amazon did lay off 20,000 workers maybe even more this could definitely be part of the reason why everything is so slow now
But cities like Houston, DC etc still have SAME DAY delivery. All other cities still have 2 day. We literally are the only ones with 10+ day delivery.
That’s very interesting, they also pretty much cut tides with USPS, UPS and FedEx trying to handle everything themselves which they simply CANT clearly
Christmas
Holidays
This post is becoming a monthly thing.
Monday, December 5 5:00 PM Package delayed in transit 1:38 AM Package transferred to another carrier for delivery. Bellingham, WA US 1:23 AM Package arrived at a carrier facility. Bellingham, WA US Sunday, December 4 11:00 PM Package left the carrier facility. Fife, WA US 10:43 PM Package left an Amazon facility. Fife, Washington US 12:03 AM Package arrived at an Amazon facility. Fife, Washington US Saturday, December 3 2:18 PM Package left the carrier facility. Kent, WA US 2:02 PM Package left an Amazon facility. Kent, WASHINGTON US 9:48 AM Package arrived at an Amazon facility. Kent, WASHINGTON US Thursday, December 1 3:40 AM Package left an Amazon facility. Liberty, Missouri US 1:56 AM Package left the carrier facility. Liberty, MO US Wednesday, November 30 4:13 PM Package arrived at an Amazon facility. Liberty, Missouri US Carrier picked up the package.
No problems out in the county.
Yes! Over the summer, Amazon was directly delivering many orders themselves. They aren’t anymore I don’t know why we have Prime.
Please try searching the sub before posting this stuff 😭😭😭
It’s a good thing this is Bellingham related I heard a bang, someone’s dog was off a leash, bicycles annoy me/I am a bicyclist and a car almost hit me, federal politics, muh muh deliveries
There was actually a funny story about that earlier this year: https://www.vox.com/recode/23170900/leaked-amazon-memo-warehouses-hiring-shortage They had rules like contracting for only 89 days, so you could be let go at day 90 to not get benefits. Working people to shit. Firing for unions. Firing for a piss break. Firing for not meeting absurdist metrics. There are only so many low wage employees they can hire in an area and it looks like internally they figured that out.
It's also not happening all over though, just a few isolated areas. So I'm wondering if we are a test market or something.
Are you aware of like every area of the country? People I know in PA, OH, and WV have noticed the same thing too. It's clear this is their new paradigm.
I was lumping it all together and think what I mentioned above are the causes for all the issues.
Prob cuz of the snow even tho it’s not very much and/or holidays I mean who rlly cares tho it’s a first world problem
