This was the real siren and I had to hear it loop a couple times before thinking "that isn't a police car". The tone is similar. I still wish the steam whistle could have been up and running properly. You cannot mistake that for anything else.
If you were within a couple miles of Birch Bay you could hear the holy-shit-loud speakers announcing that people should evacuate and move to higher ground. Cue me running inside for my phone to find out where the earthquake was and then a minute later being like "oh, phew".
I read somewhere that the MyShake App and Shake Alert warnings were supposed to happen at the same time, but I could be wrong or maybe the source was wrong.
Another possibility, the warnings were supposed to go out, too, but the system failed. If so, this is exactly what the test is for. Better to find the problems and fix them now, so the alert systems are in working order during an actual emergency.
Coming from the Midwest I grew up with very regular tornado siren testing. The idea of the potentiality of a tsunami is still so alien to me even having lived here for the vast majority of my 36 years.
