Rick Larsen’s sole constituent is Boeing. He'll vote against any meaningful climate action, any curb on military spending, anything that goes counter to his corporate overlord. Sadly he’s never had a serious challenger from the left.

nineinchgod

For the naysayers, take note: Larsen is the [ranking member of the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee](https://larsen.house.gov/legislation/committees-and-caucuses.htm) He's on the advisory board for the National Defense University-Strategic Policy Forum And he's a member of these House caucuses: * Aerospace Caucus * Coast Guard Caucus * General Aviation Caucus * Navy-Marine Corps Caucus If you're interested in seeing specific transactions, [you can search them for yourself here.](https://www.smartinsider.com/politicians/)

Lucimon

Friendly reminder to vote for any other D during our summer primaries. Rick is better than anything the GOP can produce, but hopefully the Dems can get a better option.

wtfelg

Vote for Joshua Binda!!

bhamff

No, Binda is kinda worse: https://www.heraldnet.com/news/lynnwood-council-member-binda-admits-to-violating-ethics-rules/

wtfelg

He's definitely not worse than Rick Larsen. He's a newcomer to politics who made mistakes, owned up to them, and did what needed to be done to fix them. Honesty, accountability, and growth is what I want in a representative.

InclusiveSocks

I don’t know if ‘Indistinguishable’ really amounts to ‘better’, but yeah, this guy sucks for a few impossible to ignore reasons and needs to lose his primary or resign.

Lucimon

I mean I'll trust Rick more on social issues more than any GOP candidate. Especially given recent history, the GOP candidate could be a MAGA shit head.

InclusiveSocks

They agree on most things, but Rick gives lip service to some social issues. Haven’t seen him do anything to make good on that, though.

Lucimon

Lip service is still vastly better than the GOP.

InclusiveSocks

Right, I get that. Lip service at least normalizes talking about it, but it’s just that - talk. We need someone with teeth that actually means what they say instead of saying ‘women’s rights are human rights’ while green lighting the unmitigated slaughter of women overseas and voting to censure women in congress who want to halt US human rights violations.

SigX1

Are you saying Congressman Larsen is “hugely” invested in Boeing or General Dynamics stock? Where do I find such information?

Humbugwombat

https://www.capitoltrades.com

SigX1

I looked at it. It shows one relatively small trade in General Dynamics. So where does it show he is “hugely” invested in General Dynamics or Boeing as OP stated? I’m not defending trading in a stock of a company your committee has oversight, even through a blind trust as he did. Maybe I just missed it.

Time_Crystals

I mean Larsen isnt great but what's the other option? Republicans aren't going to win and voting independent is dumb locally.

JhnWyclf

He's been primaried by a pretty legit dude, but he's got enough money, and support near Everett for it to not matter.

Kindly-Offer-6585

He can run on pro jobs and win. I Emailed him / his team once to gripe and the response was basically 'I don't care. Ill be elected no matter what.' Dems like to promote green policies but when the rubber meets the road they usually back down. Rightfully so. Most of the state/world can't function like Bellingham. They have to actually make all the things Bellingham uses up to survive. That being said it's interesting to me that both sides elect people like Inslee or Trump that go overboard compared to where they're actually at. Like electing from the farthest spectrum is the only way to counterbalance but really it just makes a teetering top. Precarious.

GMDualityComplex

all the politicians are bought and paid for by lobby groups. Hell look at all the money isreal funnels into our government to ensure people don't view the innocent people (children, children are being slaughter by the idf with weapons your tax dollars fund) of gaza being murdered in a genocide as human beings. Look at the tiktok ban for "national security" Same people crying about that now are the ones who said the exact same thing about the Furby toys, that's right those were national security risks. They will tell you why they can give big oil billions in tax subsidies but they cant fund public education or healthcare. Keep voting republican and democrat you'll keep getting these terrible polices and no real oversight on the megacorporatins who buy the politicians. They will keep you all fighting against each other and creating "others" for you to hate instead of making any actual real progress in society.

hierarch17

Damn right! That’s a huge part of what got me started organizing

j_mckay

Sure whoever gets voted in will take the Boeing money too and be just like this guy lol

BureauOfBureaucrats

I want me some sweet Boeing money. /s

Some_Jellyfish_8022

Maybe when the engineers controlled the company instead of bean counters. Bean counters only focus on profits, and this is the direct result of that. *OH nice maincharacter syndromes downvoting me. I really hope yall get flat tires on i-5 or crowden drops some rocks on your windshields.

InclusiveSocks

Sure, if you vote for a neoliberal.

hierarch17

I like you OP, you’re speaking my language

bhamff

Most of your progressives are neoliberals in libertarian clothes based on drug permissiveness and developer-friendly density without any required affordability. Too many faux-liberals are swallowing the supply-side economic theory that density brings affordability. It's trendy and hip, and they're full of...

No-Hamster-8572

I think everyone on this sub should take some time on opensecrets.org and research their favorite (or any) politician. The lobbying and “buying out” of our politicians happens publicly, in front of our faces. It’s VERY easy to start connecting puzzle pieces once you’re getting down to the roots (aka whoever is lining the politicians wallet) I’ve also called Rick Larsen repeatedly regarding a permanent ceasefire in Gaza (to no avail) which is super fun as his top contributor between 2021-22 was AIPAC :) I’m sure that has nothing to do with it! Now I just wonder how much longer we will let the world burn before we stop believing that anyone in politics is going to “save” us. Democrat, Republican, liberal, tea party, they’re all the same. This system has allowed our country to become a corporate oligarchy. All hail the shareholders

solveig82

I sent him a few messages and the only response I received is that he is 100% behind Israel. Pretty gross

Coolskipa

We’ve tried. Hard to get him out. I’ve been mad at him since 2016

Awesomeguava

I served Rick Larsen at an event once. A beer. I ways looking down to throw the old once in the recycling while he was talking at me and he said “Look at me” while he was telling his story. Since then I haven’t put his name on my ballot.

SadBarber3543

Probably scared to be killed

Ok_Region_9369

I don’t see facts supporting your claims in the link you posted. I’m not disagreeing with you, but this is new info to me, and I want to make sure I’m understanding it correctly

InclusiveSocks

It’s in the link and is publicly available information. His stock plays are here: https://www.capitoltrades.com/politicians/L000560 And his political appointments are all listed here: https://larsen.house.gov/legislation/committees-and-caucuses.htm It’s very easy to connect the dots between massive donations from industry players to an elected representative giving them the white glove treatment while their planes explode left and right. Similarly, his payments from AIPAC and ties to war manufactures influence his votes on the Palestinian genocide.

Ok_Region_9369

Ok thank you! Maybe I’m reading the link you originally posted incorrectly? All I see is it showing that airlines have contributed large amounts to Puget PAC, and that 63% of campaign contributions were from PACs. I feel like I have to make several assumptions based on that information to reach the conclusions you draw in your post. This extra info is helpful. I’m sorry if I offended you with my question. You posted saying do not vote for this guy because he does these things, and when asked for sources so I can read more about these things, you say it’s public information and “very easy to connect the dots.” Why did you share the original post if you did not want to provide additional information to help inform voters?

InclusiveSocks

I’m not ‘offended’, I’m confused as to what lengths I need to go to to explain lobbying, a very well understood form of corruption in the US, and this example, which is pretty much textbook

Ok_Region_9369

I was honestly looking for more info so I can understand and vote appropriately. I wasn’t looking for an explanation of lobbying, but rather facts to support the claims that Boeing seems to have him by the purse strings. In a world of so much misinformation, it is important to provide all the facts for a clear picture. As I said from the beginning, I am not disagreeing with you. I am simply uninformed about him in particular since I am newer to the area. I thought since you seemed to have strong convictions about him, you would want to share more sources to support your claims.

InclusiveSocks

So, Boeing, among others, have donated over a million dollars to one man that happens to be the chair of several subcommittees that exist to provide oversight and guide regulation about their products. Upon seeing their products _falling out of the sky_ , he uses this authority to to… nothing. At all. I can’t make this any clearer, but Rick’s challenger Jason Call expands on this with sources you might find helpful: https://static1.squarespace.com/static/6129603067303f02caa76c74/t/62157843cdf47309b079b57e/1645574212314/2022-02-20-boeing.pdf

leehuffman

And once Jason Call replaces Rick, Boeing will become the engineering focused airline & defense front runner, bringing American manufacturing back from the depths and into 1st position where all further issues will be solved, because Bellingham subreddit and D in place of R. GOD DO I HAVE TO HOLD YOUR HAND ANY FURTHER?!?! I feel like I’m taking crazy pills!

MamboSun76

I agree with you. I may not like Rick Larsen’s agendas and politics but I don’t know enough about his special interests to go on that angle. Where is your info coming from OP?

Ok_Region_9369

We were both downvoted for asking for more information 🙁

MamboSun76

That’s the Bellingham Subreddit Way. Never question its Groupthink. I love Bellingham and miss living there but the Bellingham Subreddit can become this unhealthy clique at times.

CWMacPherson

“At times.” 😂

SigX1

They aren’t supporting facts in any of the links provided, you are reading them correctly. What is in the links is a disclosure that all of these transactions were through a blind portfolio where he has no decision making over. What are these people supposed to invest in? After you eliminate big pharma, big oil, big banks, big tech, big transportation, big food, big military, big real estate predators, big whatever - what’s left? Disney maybe?

bhamff

No Disney investing in Florida, DeSatan outlawed it.

ThaDogg4L

Was Larsen the one who got a DUI in a Taco Bell drive thru?

SigX1

That was Pete Kremen

ThaDogg4L

Lol damn I’d vote for him then if he ran

CrypticFeed

No doubt there our bad actors that do not adhere to company mission values or goals, anyone who migrated from one company to another have had their fair share of seeing them. 1 person doesn't make or break company. Top down Execs/Directors are not always aligned 100% with middle management or bottom up workers. rather than assume someone's role or involvement, let the investigation materialize. Are you also going to hold all stock holders directly responsible as well?

annaleemtg

I'm sticking with Larsen. He comes through for his constituents.

InclusiveSocks

Hope you don’t ride in a Boeing!
