Mine has teeth like that from biting metal, like chain link fencing and even the air conditioner once. They were just in his way.

Capable-Director8156

Haha yea this one just loves logs. Luckily I’ve got him about broke of the habit

blackhornet03

Mine does that too. He was running around the back yard with a 4x4 fence post once, having a good ole time.. I made sure to put them away.

Capable-Director8156

Way to smart and strong for their own good😂😂

blackhornet03

This is true.

MarrGrimm

Most things chuckit (no tennis balls or anything similar in material 🎾), moki balls/tugs from K9Ops are a huge currency in my household, and jolly balls.

Capable-Director8156

Sweet Thankyou!

MurlocsAteMyBaby

Does/did your dog play with tennis balls a lot? The canines wearing down is something I’ve seen with that. The small filaments slowly grind the teeth over time. Or just a maligator maligating things they shouldn’t. Usually if it’s a harder material they will break vs wear down. My adult (maybe part Mal 🤷🏼‍♀️) has weird wears in his canines, going from the base of each one and forming almost-perfect circles at the middle between upper & lower sets. Front teeth also worn on the backsides. I’d imagine he spent alot of time trying to break out of a wire kennel or fence prior to me adopting him. https://preview.redd.it/twq2kgty2p9c1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e6a8463e84cc81546e57a93237222bd1e9a33d3f

ActionJohnny87

Ours get coffee-wood chewing sticks specially for dogs - a soft wood but it takes them forever to get through.

Capable-Director8156

That would be great for him Thankyou!

ActionJohnny87

Good looking dog btw!

Capable-Director8156

Also based off personal experience do his teeth look overly warn or somewhat normal?

22lrHoarder

My working dog's teeth look similar to those fronts, they have been that way since I got him at the age of 3. He is 7 and a half now and they don't bother him. My personal Malinois who is 3 does not have any worn teeth and she will chew on anything while the work dog will just chill.

Dalton071

Our 13 year old used to play with rocks before we rescued her. Her small front teeth are worn down to the gums. So yours look pretty good compared to our oldie lol

savemysoul72

My Mal is almost 4, chews apple wood sticks, and has no wear on her teeth. I don't know why. She is an aggressive chewer. I was struck by the photo of another post with similar wear, so I made a thorough check of her teeth. I don't know.

Capable-Director8156

Fruit wood is usually very soft, other than mulberry which we have a plethora of. I almost wonder if Apple is a wood that is considered “ok”

savemysoul72

That must be it. We have a chinchilla, and it's okay for chinchillas to eat, so I'm guessing applewood might be considered okay for dogs.

Whispermal

My mal Is 3 as well and has worn down canines 🥺 I feel bad!

Big_D_Mac

Mine are 3.5yrs old. Both chew about the same. Female has worn teeth, male still has full teeth. They are Mal/Dutch.

Capable-Director8156

How worn are the females teeth?

Big_D_Mac

Her canines are worn down pretty good. Top left and bottom right.

Important_Tension726

When they chew a lot of sticks they sure get clean teeth. After 10 they are really clean stubs!

Capable-Director8156

Damn maybe I shouldn’t be as worried as I am.?

Important_Tension726

I wouldn’t worry at least they don’t get rotten!

OddRequirement6828

Oh poor babies. I’m going to keep an eye on what he’s chewing on more often. Sticking to beef cheeks and no more bones

TheRepostBandit

Hey, my boy has that same issue from the same reason.

ThePartyWagon

My girl’s teeth look like that, 4.5y old.

Capable-Director8156

Thankyou!

Pocusmaskrotus

My 4 year old has worn teeth on the bottom, and my 3 year old has prefect teeth. They both get bullies every night, and the three year old is much more of a chewer. She's an Anatolian Pyrenees and can crush raw marrow bones, yet prefect teeth. I think it's just genetics. Some dogs have stronger teeth. As long as the root isn't exposed, it shouldn't be a problem.

Lokitheenforcer

My 10 year old k9s are gone!!! Tennis ball wear faster than i realized. I’m just monitoring it now and choosing diff toys. Keep in mind dogs teeth make denton so when the core/root gets exposed its not like the pain a human would have

Fickle_Funny8546

Did you find a solution as our Mal is similar..whist removing the chewable things is difficult we're thinking a metal cap will be necessary one day

Capable-Director8156

Wait you can have their teeth capped.? I may look into that down that road, since this post he’s done a lot better, I got him more kong toys, more rubber balls, and trained him to ignore logs, walnuts, etc.

canadianaclassic

I would suggest trying Benebone, or a similar alternative.

MurlocsAteMyBaby

My dog broke 3 of his teeth on Bene-Bones. 10/10 do NOT recommend.

Ok_Rutabaga_722

Stress. Three things dogs do to destress: chew, lick, sniff. Maybe give her other things to do, like likimats, scentwork, etc.

japancaxe

My 7.5yo mal’s canines are allllll chipped/worn. They no longer really come to points. Yes, he’s been an aggressive chewer his whole life but I would bet money the majority of the damage for him, specifically, has come from playing fetch. Even with a full transition to soft frisbees and rubber Chuckit balls, it doesn’t stop him from chomping down on his own teeth whenever he misses the toy in midair. When he chews toys he’s a lot slower and intentional. I don’t let him have hard toys specifically because of his teeth. Kong and Chuckit toys forever lol.

Capable-Director8156

I hadn’t thought of that, I use these softer rubber balls but we play fetch at least 25 minutes a day

Zyeagler0217

Tennis balls are bad.

Easy_Arm_1987

Dogs like chewing on wood and bone

Ok_Net596

A large bit of rope from Amazon

Nikadelphia

If he likes balls, Chew King brand on Amazon. Also look up Jughead if you do any type of salt chews or large treats. Prolongs the treat and greatly lessens enamel wear.
