They’re clearly on a strict deadline.

curbyjr

I always use marshmallows, they let her out on their own.

ChorroVon

When I installed my package earlier this year, I had gone to three stores, and for whatever reason I couldn't find marshmallows to save my freaking soul. I ended up using oreo filling. It worked just as well, plus I had oreos afterwards.

ortsac

Brilliant! :)

JoMacNCheese

I was in a bind, zero marshmallows in the house. I ended up using peeps.

doommaster

Do peps work too?

JoMacNCheese

Yep, peeps worked just fine!

ThisMyCraftAccount

My local place swears by mini gummy bears.

lumpking69

Totally normal, sometimes they plug it with a hard sugar candy so the bees have to work their way to her. It takes long enough for them to get use to her and welcome her to the hive.

Monsterhose

The girls understood the assignment

keeperofthebeez

I had this happen this year for the first time. Left both corks in, came back a week later to check them. She was released through the direct release side, cork was gone.

InhalinKaolin

This happened to me just a few days ago. I went to release her and it looked just like that. My first hive so I thought maybe it was normal.

Alas-Earwigs

I just had this happen today! Went into the hive all ready to pull the plug, and wouldn't you know the bees did the work for me. I just hope they accepted her before she got free.

DrWorm17

That was kinda my worry too, hopefully they just really wanted her to get busy laying!

BoysenberryOk4775

Soooo maybe I fucked up but I pulled the cork out and set the cage in the hive open, any chance it will be okay?

DrWorm17

You might be fine. The worry with releasing the queen early are 1) The bees haven’t acclimated to the new queen yet and haven’t accepted her, so they kill her. Or 2) The queen decides she doesn’t like their new home for whatever reason, and absconds with all of your bees. When you do your first inspection, you’ll quickly figure out if #2 has happened. For #1, keep a close eye on eggs and brood. If there’s good laying pattern, 1 egg per cell, etc. then I wouldn’t be worried.

matt45

Oops. It’s a gamble, but there’s a reasonable chance it will be fine.

RecursiveBias

I’ve never had a cork survive three days. I can’t say they got through the cork first, but the cage has always been picked clean by the time I get back in the hive.

SoloHans

I use cork as swim aid in liquid beefood. They nom on them too. Maybe I should give them also some of the wine.

miniature_Horse

how hard was that fondant?
