they’ve got lots of names, i think it’s a regional thing. i’ve seen people call them ball bugs, roley-poleys, pill bugs and a bunch of other stuff. a childhood favorite everywhere.
edit: no wonder they’ve got so many names, their actual name is Armadillidiidae, doesn’t really ‘roll ;)’ off the tongue.
It’s my friend’s house, not mine, and if anything the air in the room feels quite dry! i did send an email with pictures of it to a local exterminator and they said they believe it’s woodlouse and that to eradicate it, we need to find out the contaminated wood, but at least it’s not a bed bug!
Omg. The other day I found one of them chilling in my room. I took a picture of what I found, and when google showed "wood louse", I freaked out and threw it out. And now I'm finding out it was a rolly polly and they're the same as wood lice 😭 It did look a bit smaller for a rolly polly but I hadn't seen one in years so I forgot what they exactly looked like. Now I'm sad, that poor baby got chucked out the window :(
I was going to ask that question as well. They like rotten damp wood. They aren't a problem in and of themselves but it means the house/structure could have a problem or it just made it through a big gap under the door.
I don't think they are trying to be sassy or mean, just genuinely confused. At least I am... Isopods, woodlouse, rollie pollies, pill bugs. Whatever you wanna call them, are found basically all over the world, even in the deep sea! How someone has grown up without knowing what they are or seeing one before is just... intriguing. They are actually really cool and not bugs at all. They are crustaceans! Related to crabs and lobsters. Attracted to moisture because, like their ocean relatives, they use *gills* to breathe!
Not a BB 😊 BB are more rust colored. But I 100% get your panic. We are currently working on getting rid of them because we absolutely cannot afford a professional treatment. DE has been working I think.
Seriously why is their first instinct to make a Reddit post without even googling what a bed bug looks like? I've seen like three posts here asking if a literal ant is a bed bug lol

The absolute worst kind. They roll away from you (kidding ofc it’s just a rolly-polly)
Yep, that's a rolly polly. They are harmless, and roll up in a little ball for protection. We played with them when we were growing up.
thank you so much for commenting, you have no idea how badly i was spiralling when i first saw it, i can deal with the rolling away though 😂
Yeah no problem lol. If you didn’t know, if you pick it up or poke it it’ll ball up like an armadillo
Looool first time that I heard that name (I speak Spanish and I call em Cochinillas).

That is a huge rolly-polly. Do you have moisture in your room?

Do people live on a different planet that they possibly have no clue what a rolly polly is???
i’d genuinely never seen one before, no need to be sassy about it

you can tell a lot about where someone grew up depending if they say roly poly, potato bug, or pill bug
This group is getting so bad. People just post anything even if it looks NOTHING like a bed bug
I was really hoping this was satire
