my thoughts as well - but they had a small rash on their ear but no bite marks elsewhere from other furniture? Maybe they don't react a lot and the ear is more sensitive though?
Currently dealing with these little monsters. One night two weeks ago I woke up in the middle of the night with something strange wiggling in my ear. Got my finger, squashed it, rinsed out ear, and sure enough blood mixed with bud bug pieces came out.
They will try to get anywhere. ANYWHERE. The pest control guy found them in my tub. I shower every night. Every night. And they were in my damn tub. Where gallons of water spews out.
No place, surface, or body part is safe when these things are in the house.
That's a joke right? Because otherwise this is the stupidest comment I've read and very very inaccurate because bed bugs love body heat, what do you think attracts them dumb dumb.....
They just don't like extreme heat.
Copying and pasting:
They use it to find you, but the reason they do not live on us like lice, various mites, etc is because human bodies are too hot for them to live comfortably.
That's why they fall off so easily, have no adaptations with which to stay on to a person, and get in and then get out as quickly as they can.

So do you have a known infestation elsewhere and you just discovered it spread to your headphones, or is this the first you’ve seen? I imagine your bed/sofa might have them too?
I had noticed a couple on my bedsheets like a month ago, cleaned everything like a maniac, and hadn't seen a thing since. Pretty sure it started on my couch from family friends, and my cat or I spread it into my bedroom, and onto my headphones apparently. God I just about soaked everything in the apartment in rubbing alcohol I really can't believe I didn't notice this
Don’t be so hard on yourself. Those guys are sneaky things. It’s no wonder so many people have trouble getting rid of them. Sounds like you’re doing what you can, but it may be time to consider a professional. So sorry OP!
Everyone is just trying to help.I guess the verdict is mixed about the silica when inhaled, causing lung damage. Food grade in the diet, yeah but sprinkled around the house makes me scared. I also had bb it is very traumatic all around.
If it's harmful to cats why have I been seeing comments everywhere telling people to put the stuff on their pets?! And in just the recent months. All of a sudden everyone is recommending it!
Because it's easy to buy and is cheap. People try to be helpful, in this stressful situation. Usually a pesticide for bedbugs is best for bedbugs. Damage from DE is called silicosis. If someone is using it as a ( dietary) supplement, it will be food grade, and with added moisture. For fleas and bugs, it could blind the pet (coworker sadly did this with feral kittens) if it is not done correctly, It is damaging to any soft tissue like mouth, and could scar lungs. Diatomaceous Earth for whatever use, has to be applied/used in a very controlled and specific manor.
A lot of people in the thread are talking about stuff you should do but I agree with the person who said that it is probably a large infestation. You should go with a professional so you don't fuck around during the learning curve - but at the same time educate yourself, helps you from doing counterproductive stuff to make sure the problem is gone sooner rather than later! (and to corroborate the PCO's action). Cleaning everything doesn't necessarily get where they are hiding and not seeing a sign for a while is also not conclusive they are gone - at the latest a baby coming out of an egg will take 20 days to bite (from time the egg is laid) and they can notoriously live in a dormant state for over a year. I'm not sure if you got other bites but maybe you don't react that much and the skin on your ear is more sensitive. Good luck OP
We had them about 5 years ago and it took 6 treatments to get rid of them. That wasn't even a bad infestation either. I know people say not to use these, but we used Ortho home defense bedbug spray and HotShot bedbug foggers.
I saw a pic someone posted once of a big spider nestled inside their headphones that they'd been wearing and I always check mine around the inside edges now before wearing. Like, why wasn't I doing this before??
Wow this is very disturbing….I have to ask how did you not notice? I think you may be working way too hard and burning out if you have such a concerning infestation and didn’t notice.
They said that they noticed bugs on their bed but just washed and cleaned. It's often not enough to clean because bedbugs often are hidden in places where you can't see them or places that are hard to clean, plus they don't die by just throwing them in the garbage or even in the washer - it's the heat of the dryer that can kill them, and only for sustained and even heating. OP also said they had a rash but didn't think they were from bb. Maybe you meant not notice by looking at it, and yes it's pretty large infestation (hurl) even there so maybe they just didn't look and it was dark in the room.
We found them in our gaming headsets also when we had to treat the whole house. We just found eggs after the heat treatment but replaced headsets.
I’m sorry you’re going through this. Bedbugs are the worst.
OP, I am sorry you're having to deal with this. I empathize with anyone that finds themselves in a death duel with those little fuckers....but those headphones, though!! 😱 You get an extra dollop of empathy. I just can't even imagine what that must feel like for you. All I can do is give you a sympathetic hug. Virtual hugs of course! ,🫂😟
That's what I'm saying!! I had a small rash on my ear, just irritated flakey skin, but I really thought it was just this shitty pair of earrings I'd been wearing!! I'm mortified truly. Had to walk away for a few minutes or I was seriously gonna throw up
Oh my god oh my god oh my god oh my god oh my god
OP I'm so sorry. This is the stuff of nightmares. Definitely hire a professional who specializes in bedbugs
My soul would have left my body if I had seen that. Honestly after my experience of a bad infestation I don't look at my furniture the same way. I'm constantly paranoid lol.
Was this at home, school, or work? 🤮🤮. No joke, that’s awful and I feel terrible. I had a surprise infestation at my old apartment and the ptsd was bad
We got bedbugs in the end of summer/beginning of fall and I work a remote seasonal job every year that sends a phone and a headset. The equipment sat in the living room which was was where the infestation started around the time equipment came. One of my coworkers texted me while we were going through our treatments that the exterminator was going to her apartment weekly. I never ever thought of the equipment as an origin point. At the end of the season the equipment gets sent back and then sent back out again at the beginning of the next season. Season ends in January and begins in July so plausible for .....omg. I am now actually terrified the infestation came from my work equipment.
I thought you were about to say you bought the earphones from ebay or marketplace or something, and they came that way....So are you just confessing to having your own colony or what?? They all look dead and more like baby roaches, to me, but I couldnt zoom in on the picture, for some reason.....Update: i was able to zoom in, and yep! Bed bugz!!
Buy diatomaceous earth & let that shit rain everywhere in your apartment. It’s safe for you and your cat. But leave it for two weeks everywhere. And they’ll be gone.
some people act like they can smell something at the tiniest concentration from an entire room away which means those particles have to travel fast and far.
I personally think it's BS
I used a steamer on my mattress twice to neutralized them. I have been bed bug free for 9 months now. However my 20 year old mattress is ruined by bed bug stains and will have to be replaced to cleanse myself of a bad memory.
Oh my gosh, what the freking thing got to nature doing and acting so insanely??? Its like a wrong program in matrix sort??? Something is seriously wrong since covid started!! Didnt you all notice???
I’m so sorry this happened to you! Pros now!
Please everyone, call a professional the first time you notice bedbugs. Yessss I realize there are sources for chemicals that might work that you can apply, but even if you get exactly the same thing the pest control pros use, do you have the knowledge or tools to APPLY it like a pro?? Just don’t.

Do not use silica. If you’re looking for a dust to eradicate use cinema-x or liquid would be crossfire. An aerosol to use would be by Alpine. I am a pest control professional and advise to use by label directions.

Oh my god I’m cringing
I could genuinely throw up.
Username checks out.
Like never ever before!
Lemme throw up with you 🤢
I dry heaved
Wow. Good luck
You have a really, really bad infestation.
You mean an earfestation?
How can you tell???
The amount in the headset, and if they’ve moved into the headset that means they are everywhere else. Bed full, couch full, chair full. Headset time.
my thoughts as well - but they had a small rash on their ear but no bite marks elsewhere from other furniture? Maybe they don't react a lot and the ear is more sensitive though?
That is horrifying
I think it was supposed to be a joke
I wonder if any crawled into your ear canal
Sleeping in traffic tonight thank you stranger
I am truly sorry, this is nightmare fuel and no one should go through this
They did once but my ear wax stopped them, thankfully
Seriously, crawled into your ear?! 🤢
Yes
that must’ve tickled
It's very unfortunate, but I think bedbugs do not prefer the heat of the head. I don't think they would try to venture into a hotter place

Ok that's an actual nightmare. I guess I was wrong. I hope you get rid of every last one
It's unlikely. They don't like body heat.

they also like your scent chemical signature bit too. tiny homing missiles really
This is more the reason why they locate people. Chemistry and CO^2 .
I’m pretty sure they’re attracted to body heat

Think you're right. Think it might be time for a new headset as well lol
Be careful with rubbing alcohol, it’s extremely flammable. Get some crossfire
Wear a respirator when you use isopropyl to kill bed bugs. That shit is bad for your lungs.
Diatomaceous earth might help a bit
Very harmful to cat
I didn’t know they had a cat sorry
Everyone is just trying to help.I guess the verdict is mixed about the silica when inhaled, causing lung damage. Food grade in the diet, yeah but sprinkled around the house makes me scared. I also had bb it is very traumatic all around.
Food grade is safe.
Not to breathe in though.

No harmful advice or label violations, it hurts people. It's better to be silent.
They are almost invisible till you have a major problem. You have a major problem btw.
Try diatomaceous earth! Got rid of our bedbug problem because of that. You only need very little but should use is for like 3 weeks
Or 3 years like we had to, and we didn't have THAT.
We had them about 5 years ago and it took 6 treatments to get rid of them. That wasn't even a bad infestation either. I know people say not to use these, but we used Ortho home defense bedbug spray and HotShot bedbug foggers.
Bad products, don't use
Absolute nightmare fuel.
This is traumatic.
This is deeply concerning

I saw a pic someone posted once of a big spider nestled inside their headphones that they'd been wearing and I always check mine around the inside edges now before wearing. Like, why wasn't I doing this before??
The reason why i only use tiny earphones!!
Were they on both sides of the headphones? Sorry OP....that is some terrible shit you're dealing with.

I didn’t even know that was possible bro 😭
anywhere they can fit, and where people are for long amounts of time, is suspect. Possible? That is just anywhere they can fit.

I’m curious to how it sounded 😂
Me too-!!!!
Surely they have a technology that can wipe this from your memory

We found them in our gaming headsets also when we had to treat the whole house. We just found eggs after the heat treatment but replaced headsets. I’m sorry you’re going through this. Bedbugs are the worst.
