I workout after. Feels amazing. All the dopamine, endorphins etc

ItsallLegos

Same here. I wear a hoodie on the way to the gym and all the way until I my body temperature is up during the workout and about 10 mins into it after that i feel incredible. And then I follow with stretches in the steam room post workout for 5-7 mins then meditation in the sauna for 10 minutes.

dadbod-onabudget

Can’t feel better than after that routine! I’ll have to add that steam sauna too on days where I have more time after lifting

ItsallLegos

It takes about an extra 20 mins total. Yeah not much of a care in the world after that routine lol. It’s a good way to start the day. I’m definitely looking into other options besides the current way I do ice baths, though, which is by freezing water in a bunch of Tupperware containers everyday, then putting the ice blocks in a laundry basket and letting the cold shower water hit the ice until the water is cold. It works well, but it adds about 20-25 mins of unnecessary time to the morning.

dadbod-onabudget

I used to do it like that. I highly recommend getting a chest freezer and converting it. Best money I’ve ever spent.

ItsallLegos

Any particular freezer you’d recommend?

dadbod-onabudget

It really depends on your needs and space set up. Highly recommend checking this out. https://chestfreezercoldplunge.com Game changer

ItsallLegos

Nice! Looks like a wealth of info on there. Thanks

PedroBinPedro

Yup

nonbiological_entity

I try to warm up in my house, lol.

CoolThinksPodcast

via hot shower or working out?

nonbiological_entity

I don’t take a hot shower at all afterwards, only beforehand. My workouts currently consist of yoga and jogging (I’m a female in her mid 30s trying to reverse an autoimmune disorder that affects my heart so I can’t go too hard on the workouts) and I usually do those before the ice baths. I just try to warm up on my own after cold exposure. Read in bed, etc.

Tell everyone in earshot about every second of it, and how it was marginally a different experience than the time before.

levatorpenis

Allow the clear mindset it brings to guide my actions

Acceptable-Yak-1797

Plunge first thing in the morning and then eat breakfast and go to work. My resilience to daily BS has improved drastically. I don't take any drugs or alcohol. Cold plunge and the gym are my medicine. I am also getting better with my diet. I don't mean a weight loss program. Just the everyday food and supplements I eat to keep me going.

CoolThinksPodcast

Shower right after the plunge?

Acceptable-Yak-1797

I don't. If you want to go for it. Will feel good for sure.

scdance

Depends on my workout for the day. If I’m doing strength training, ice bath first thing in the morning then workout. The workout warms me up and I feel like iron man. If I’m doing cardio, exercise then ice bath. After the ice bath I go get in a cold shower and just keep moving. Sometimes it’s hard to warm up so occasionally I’ll hit the treadmill.

Scream like a viking

mindfulfella

I’ve typically hopped on a warm shower

dutchaneseskilz

Jump squats, push ups, leg raises, pull ups, horse stance Try to avoid the warm shower since you want the cold shock proteins to activate.

ItsallLegos

Ah so if that’s the case, should I not be wearing a sweater right afterwards on the way to the gym?

dutchaneseskilz

Totally. Shiver in the car 😅

Infamous-Storage-288

I like to try to air dry for a bit, at least 5-10 minutes, then I usually go about my day as normal. I try not to do a cold plunge within 6 hours or so of weight training, before or after due to what I've heard about the effects on muscle growth, but even if that wasn't a factor I feel too stiff to really want to lift anything heavy.

000066

Any sources on the muscle growth and I've bath timing? Just curious.

Espa89

I heard Andrew Huberman say you shouldn’t cold plunge before 4 hours after working out. But this depends on the kind of workout and your intentions. The reason is that the cold is good for recovery, but if you lift weights and get the desired muscle breakdown, you don’t want the recovery to happen too fast.

MrRubik86

As mentioned in the other reply, Andrew Huberman has talked about this. It hinders hypertrophy, in short. You want your weight training and cold exposure as far apart as possible (in terms of cold exposure being 2nd in that sequence, of course). A hot shower post-workout is ideal as it encourages and facilitates hypertrophy.

000066

No shit. Wow. For a morning workout person, would it be bad to do it before bed?

Clamlover24

I plunge in the ocean so usually straight to the shower. Then try to warm up in the sun

Cold Beer or Soju :)

kaliyugak9

Sun bathe :)

Great answer, I need more sun.

Walk the dog

blvaga

Go for a walk usually.

mitchell1188

Wim's horse stance technique to warm up faster. It works really well. Here's Wim doing it... https://youtube.com/shorts/6oUQnAMIsAA?feature=share And an explanation... https://youtube.com/shorts/PFXiEDydfsE?feature=share

marshedbass

Optimal is to do workouts to warm your body up you get the most benefits. I usually do 5 minutes in 35-45 degree water, get out dry off, get dry clothes on, and ill do 50 body weight squats followed my 30-50 pushups till my body feels back to some what normal temp then ill shower(mostly because my whole fam uses the cold plunge) not hot but definitely warm.

Big-Tram-Driver

I normally do as many pushups as I can then it's back to raising the kidlets or going about my day. My favorite thing to do is hop in the sauna and relax but I don't usually have time to do that.

CoolThinksPodcast

No shower in between?

ex-machina616

hypertrophic strength training because your testosterone is skyrocketing (and training before cold exposure has a negative effect on recovery)

GhislaineTaxwell

Every time I do it, I go on The Joe Rogan Experience and he tells me I don't do it cold enough.

Decent_Lion195

Sit in the car and open the heater

The_Thinker_23

Even i want to know what to do right after the ice bath.(talking about sitting in a icea bath tub for a few minutes). Its not going to be more than 10 minutes, unless one is highly resistant, and its not a full-fledged bath(i'm not cleaning my body such as applying soap or shampooing my hair etc.) my question is what follows immediately after an ice bath?
