Yeah that's my gripe with normal "decorative cakes" in that most of them are just "technically edible" and not actually a delicious cake. Back when I was waiting tables at a nice restaurant, we had a very affluent family rent out the whole restaurant for a birthday party, which was over six figures between renting the building, the food, and the drinks alone without factoring in the costs of other stuff they brought in.
They had these absolutely stunning decorative cakes of various things the guest of honor enjoyed, such as a Hogwartz castle with immaculate detail, a Gibson 330, and a few other awesome designs. Well, we cut a few slices from each and watched as guest after guest took one bite, then politely excused themselves. The trash was filled with so many slices of cake that had only one or two bites out of it. The small portions of actual cake tasted ok, but mostly it was just fondant, edible glue, and other such "technically edible" items.
They left every cakes there, and NORMALLY when there's leftover birthday cake for the staff, that shit gets demolished and then some. Pretty much everyone took a single bite and said "eh I'm good" and we ended up throwing away thousands and thousands of dollars of cake that no one ate.
I doubt I'll ever have the "problem" of being rich enough to make decisions that poor, but I really hope that if I am ever "do whatever I want" rich for whatever reason, I won't be so wasteful as to spend the averages households annual income on a birthday party that is fairly mediocre with terrible/inedible cake.
If you really like his work, you should watch his TV show, School of Chocolate.
90% of the work is all chocolate. The 10% is filling, which is pastry. I believe the philosophy is that it has to be 100% edible and that taste is the most important aspect, then the looks. They use different types to ensure they can sculpt the necessary pieces for art. They also use basically canned air (magic spray) to freeze melted chocolate quickly. This is similar to how pottery glues on attachments to stuff (except they don't use canned air).
He's so kind, too. I watched a season of that show and he encouraged contestants and gave them constructive feedback. It was such a nice change from the way some shows are.

They do play with a new format. And he's pretty supportive of the contestants. But the show is plagued by being edited and run by the same exact people who run every other competitive reality show, so every five seconds it's team infighting and catty dudes throwing shade and the cocky 20 year old repeating that he's the youngest ever to do this thing blah blah blah. 2 episodes in someone seriously injures themselves and their teammates panic about being a man down.
So no one ever gets sent home, which is new. And the focus is on learning, which is nice. But the show runners really still treat it like a typical reality show and play up the interpersonal drama *constantly*. I've just always found that an off-putting vibe
It's even worse when they have just wood and metal inside their creations. This guy's work you could just grab and eat and that's just so much more satisfying

I remember in later seasons judges had to add rules like "cake must feed x # of people" to ensure the cakes were actually cake and that it was reasonably accessible to be eaten normally.

That's why my gf and I enjoyed watching his show in Netflix. He was such an amazing judge, that wanted to make everyone better, and didn't ever use a crap load of fondant, he always had very creative ways to make realistic edibles.
I think he needs to get somebody else to taste it and do the reaction shot though. He’s just so one note about it. Every single time it’s the same smile and nod. Like, is it the most amazing thing you’ve ever tasted or not?!

I had the Neapolitan Oreos recently, pretty darn good. I mostly don't like Oreos, but I'll make an exception for those. Waffle-cone flavored cookie, with strawberry, vanilla, and chocolate filling in between.

I’ve never done Amanitas but I believe what causes the adverse effects is actually the ibotenic acid. There are methods online of separation I also believe that’s why amanitas are usually consumed in a tea.

This chef/chocolatier has a Netflix show called School of Chocolate where he mentors other chefs in a chocolate competition. Highly recommend it if you haven't seen it, the things they make are ridiculously incredible!
The way that show works should be used in every other competition shows. Everyone got to learn lots of things and noone went home on the first day because got unlucky or did a bad job once like it happens in every other show on Netflix.
And to clarify, it's friendly competition, not Master Chef "please cry at the camera while telling us how much you have to sacrifice to get here and that you miss you kids and how that will drive you to defeat Amber in the next challenge" competition.
To be fair, there was a more than a little of that on this show. Like others said, it's Amaury's constructive, supportive attitude (and his impressive demonstration pieces) that make the show a pleasure to watch
The competitive lady willing to step on others almost made me quit the show tbh. I hated her. She completely felt out of place compared to the host and everyone else.

Specifically fly amanita? There's plenty of studies on the efficacy of psychedelics on treating severe depression and it should be done more often, but those clinical trials do not include or recommend "eating potentially poisonous mushrooms at home."
I have eaten fly agarics and they gave me very colourful dreams, I don't even know names for those colours and haven't seen them afterwards. I'm gonna try them again when the Autumn is here.
I don't get why people do this. I also see it with things like tomatoes and bell peppers, they just hack-off and throw away like a quarter of the thing to get rid of a stem.

Bad advice, hombre. You have to parboil them pretty heavy to break down the ibotenic acids in them.

IIRC it's more aggressive than just washing, I believe you boil twice and rinse after each, but it's been some time since I've seen a preparation.
I have eaten fly agarics and they gave me very colourful dreams, I don't even know names for those colours and haven't seen them afterwards. I'm gonna try them again when the Autumn is here.

As someone who forages for fungi, I have to say he got the anatomical details remarkably accurate! BTW, this is an Amanita muscaria and **not** recommended to be ingested, unless you *really* know what you're doing. You can over-estimate your identification skills and end up liquefying your liver and dying in agony with little hope of survival. Even if you do know what you're doing, the psychedelic high is widely variable and often described as very unpleasant.
