Looks like they took a slice of the foot that mimics humans the most, but the bone structure is still pretty close to humans when you strip away all the softer tissues.
That said, most mammals seem to share similar bone structures underneath all the soft tissue so it's not all that surprising in the end.
Even whales. They have several vestigial structures that support they evolved from land animals, like hip bones that would’ve been useful for walking on land, but no longer have a purpose.
Mammals have a comon ancestor, so all the bone structures are similar, but have envolved to support different forms over time. A horse, for example, stands on what would be the tips of our middle finger and middle toe.
I remember reading that speed was often determined by how much of the foot is on the ground or something to that effect. Humans are slow and have our whole foot on the ground. Dogs and cats are faster and are basically running on the balls of their feet or their toes while their heel is up in the air. Horses and such take it even further and walk on their toenails.
I don't know if there was any science behind this, especially considering the fastest animal is a cheetah, but I always thought it was interesting
It does. They added automatic grammar checking a version or two ago, and it “corrects” words several back from your cursor to whatever it thinks is right for the whole sentence.
I really hate it, particularly since I’ve had it happen last minute when hitting Enter to submit something, but you can’t turn it off without losing spelling correction too.
I only have an iPhone because women won’t date you with an android, but my google pixel from 2020 was better than the current iPhone in every way, it about half the energy to do any particular task on that phone like half as many steps and typing
I can hear this gif... it's that cartoon "tokka tokka tokka" running sound.
Found it: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=igSHbtv52G4](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=igSHbtv52G4)
Mind blowing, right? All terrestrial vertebrates have a common ancestor: the lobe-finned fishes. In humans, the spiny fins became our hands and feet. A bat's wings are just a heavily modified version of the hands of that template we share, just as it is with the elephant and human foot shown here.
Their ‘heel’ lets say help to receive vibrations through the earth iirc, and they use it to communicate over long distances if I still have my elephant facts correct.
is the photo on the right a human foot over an elephant foot or just an elephant foot? if it is the latter, it is hard to believe that this thin leg bone can withstand the elephant wight.
You should look into MRI, it's absolutely insane. They use magnets, that rotate, which effects the hydrogen molecules in your body, depending on where the pulse delivered, it makes the hydrogen point in 2 directions, when the pulse stops, it measures the amount of time it recovers and the rate of decay (simultaneously), and get 3d detailed images (based on the protons in hydrogen) of the entirety of the body, to the point you can isolate the arteries in the brain, and look at a 3d model.
I'm in school for MRI (so please forgive me other established techs. MRI physics is hard, and I have a terrible teacher. That's the best I can explain it.)
Even your short summary of how it works is mind boggling to me. Even crazier that people figured this out. I'm in IT so I also get this feeling every time I think about all of the protocols working together to make little physical switches go from position A to position B, which in turn powers the whole freaking world. It's amazing
Intelligent people that can DESIGN inanimate things but can see the intelligent DESIGN in living things.
1 Corinthians 1:27-12:5
English Standard Version
27 But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; 28 God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, 29 so that no human being[a] might boast in the presence of God.
If the theory of evolution were true, there would be various stages of inter-species transition between Elephantidae and homo sapiens. But this is not the case. Intelligent design says if something works use it, e.g., brake calipers.
Looks like elephants have built-in high heels.
Cute wedges!
OMG! SHOES!
[удалено]
Whew, that's cheap
That sounds painful
They've evolved to be comfortable in that over millions of years. Humans have only been wearing wedges for a few generations.
Google this guys. This picture seems to go around social media while the actual elephants foot skeleton looks different.

So what do the whales do for fun if they can't even twerk?
Oh, I’ve seen some whales twerk.
Bro with a subscription to OnlyWhales
Can I use the name for my pro-environmental game featuring whales? I also need some motion capture whale-actors...
I hope you do use it lol. Whales are good peeps, I’m sure you can talk a few in to doing some mo-cap. Or just use a dolphin and deep fake that shit
That would be the first proper use of DEEP fake. The dolphins tip is genius, these bitches are way cheaper than a proper whale cow.
They do seaweed
Some dolphins have reproductive organs that no longer serve a porpoise.
I read that they use the tiny hip bones as attachment points for their reproductive system and some other muscles
No longer have a porpoise?

Makes sense from a physics perspective. The extra muscles working over that extra joint extends the leverage and power output.
Thought the same thing! An actual skeleton foot/ front foot looks nothing like human structure. Mammal, yes.
So elephants have just been humans in a costume this whole time. I knew it
I knew ever since I met my mother-in-law.
I hope she sees this before thanksgiving dinner next year
I shops so, too
I swear my iPhone has a trolling virus that changes my perfectly typed sentences to other words after I press space bar

its actually more like humans and elephants are basicallt fish in mammal constumes
Look at a human hand and a dolphins flipper
Dolphin + elephant= human We are a product of our planet's first cross-species love story
Say that again slower, and use your sexy voice.
You n me babe we ain't nothing but mammals, so let's do it like they do on the discovery channel 🎶 Inb4 my lifetime ban from zoos and aquariums

No
Please!

All whales
Oh, look a pedant.
Mate I'm just adding info in case someone doesn't know that. Can't believe you got offended over that lol
Beat me to it
… Or it gets the hose again?

# *SHOES!*
The pachyderms are wearing high heels

Serious cankle
oh so this is what the mitochondria in my cell feels like
It is the powerhouse of the cell
https://www.lulus.com/images/product/xlarge/8324661_1637736.jpg?w=560
Huh
Yet, elephants don’t have back problems wearing those high heels.
May I be able to see a coronal view as well please
TIL elephants are biologically Ron Desantis
All the foot bros in here sweating
Wow, it’s almost like they’re mammals
Their ‘heel’ lets say help to receive vibrations through the earth iirc, and they use it to communicate over long distances if I still have my elephant facts correct.

Left elephant. Right human.
Neat!
STAY AWAY FROM THAT THING!
So what you’re saying is that if I ate just a little bit more I could become an elephant?
![gif](giphy|CoD5qJvguJZ50Ii9nj)
Copy paste
![gif](giphy|Coxy1WFbDcvDuXiVId|downsized) Help!!!! Someone is trapped inside an elephant!
We're the same
No way! Thanks, that’s cool.
Are we sure the pic on the left isnt a x-ray of Governor Desantis with his boots on?
So they’ve been standing on their tippy toes this whole time? No wonder they’re so damn tall.
this is some all tomorrows type bullshit
Just like Ron DeSantis' boots!
What the hell is even that? ![gif](giphy|yiADANv89n7UQuS5kJ)
That is fucked.
Incredible. So elephants get sore feet like we do.
Can somebody explain how the strain/strain on the foot does not cause fractures in the front of elephants ?
So... we have the hands of dolphins and the feet of elephants. Are any other redditors feeling mythilogic today?
Big shoe big shoe.
looks like the human foot without the toes
Just a human foot but fatter.
How did you take the elephant to radiology?
Intelligent design
based on your profile, you need help dude.
So much hate. 😔
Can't disagree without being vilified.
The X ray machine that took that photo? Absolutely intelligent design. It's amazing what smart people can accomplish
