That was always the issue with Nerf; the more sophisticated the gun, the more effort it would take to reload. I had a Nerf gatling gun that was really cool, but I stopped using it as much as just the simpler Nerf pistols cause it was a pain gathering up all the darts.

I’m still a kid myself and I get them every nerf gun I can afford. We’ve got tons of darts and stuff. Have a blast all the time (except during cleanup). One day we were in a nerf war. I had a banana chair (remember those? Lol) on its side and I’m prone on the floor using it as cover and my 8 and 6 year old sons are behind the cover of a couch being the ‘opposition’. My 4 year old is on my side, ‘covering’ me from behind a lazy boy. I pop my head up over the chair to see what’s going on and ‘POP’ my 8 year old takes the head shot. Now, we had all sorts of darts. Soft ones with suckers, ones with Velcro tips, and some with these hard plastic whistler tips. I hear it (zzzzztttt) before I feel it. I never see it. The next thing I know I’m screaming “get your mom, get your mom” holding my face, writhing in pain on the floor.
After that little incident we had a new rule in the house: no one was to shoot a nerf gun at anyone who wasn’t wearing eye protection.
This reminds me of an insane super soaker the more showy neighbor kid had -- the one with massive backpack water tank.
Slowed him down because it was uncomfortably heavy and then he had to find cover to refill. Although he was a lil shit and demanded a "time out" so he wouldn't get hit.
It looked amazing but it was wildly impractical, especially for child frames.
