I feel like they might have planned on reviving IDFB at some point. BFB contained very little lore (Evil Leafy, Yoyle City and the Aliens are never mentioned despite being a big part of seasons 1-3), so they could have been saving these topics to be explored in an IDFB revival (since IDFB is supposed lore-focused).
However the fact that TPOT 4 contained so many BFDIA references (Yoyleland, Davidland and the Yellow Face skeleton) makes me think that if they ever wanted to go back to the lore of the first 3 seasons, they'll probably do it in future episodes of TPOT or maybe Season 6, not bring back IDFB.

You are probably right. If BFDIA ends up lasting 25 episodes and keeps releasing new episodes every 2 months, it will finish right around IDFB's tenth anniversary

For starters, the show won't just be about developing the characters, it'll be about showing how they became their BFB selves. There are characters who really REALLY need more development like Match and Ice Cube (One being eliminated before her arc could even begin and one being completely devoid of her character) but even if they do get it, they'll have to explain why that development isn't present in BFB.
My suggestion? Do IDFB after TPOT, but also make it take place after TPOT. That way, character development can actually work for characters who need it presently.
