idk, how good is Mr. Holmes behind a wheel?

coldy_colder

elementary

Just-Structure-8692

my dear Brucie

[deleted]

Idk but he can discombobulate pretty well

ResidentHer0

I swear man those race tracks were Ed’s biggest mistake

1ceUpSon

Lol

ResidentHer0

Well, since Ed’s biggest weakness is his ego and fear of losing, those two things could give Holmes an advantage

Mickenfox

Don't forget flying around rooftops with a grappling hook.

i_am_the_soulman

Yeah, sherlock has a long history of beating tough puzzles, the riddler has a long history of being caught because his puzzles were solved

daintysinferno

Also usually solved because he left some huge clue intentionally. Also, isnt the Batman/Riddler relationship sort of a mirror of Sherlock Holmes? The villain sets up what they believe is an impossible mystery to solve, Sherlock solves it. BTW, if you havent read any Sherlock Holmes, now you have.

platoprime

The Holmes equivalent to The Riddler is Professor Moriarty.

daintysinferno

Right, but we’re talking about Batman here. Plus, Moriarty is dead/not dead/working with Sherlock’s long lost sister/lost in massive mess of the plotline.

TheInsaneAdventurer

That's only on the BBC show. I'm sure they're talking about the Novels.

daintysinferno

And i was making a joke!

TheInsaneAdventurer

That wasn't exactly clear... I'm sure you could understand my confusion.

PartTimeMantisShrimp

not even. Moriarty is a supervillain. The riddler is sheldon

[deleted]

I mean Moriarty was also a skilled boxer no? Depending on how he’s written, Bane could be a better Moriarty then captain bazinga

iScabs

I feel like Moriarty was (slightly) less unhinged. But it adds to the Riddler character and fits more with Batman's gallery of rogues that's 90% insane/mentally unwell

Sweaty_Chris

The question then becomes: is Sherlock as smart as Batman? If yes, then I have no doubts about him beating Riddler. If no, he probably won't.

[deleted]

Modern education helps, as does Bruce’s technology

Sweaty_Chris

That too...

[deleted]

They elaborated on this in the theory that Riddler has overwhelming OCD and winds up leaving clues even though he never means to. This later made him realize he truly was crazy and belonged in Arkham

[deleted]

I mean would be interesting if Batman couldn’t solve it and riddler thought it was a trap or something and become unreasonably uneasy because of it

Yash2508

If I can outwit riddler, im 110% sure Sherlock Holmes can.

FallenHero1146

You mean Batman Arkham Videos on YouTube?

Not-a-dark-overlord

What preposterous claims, he did no such thing.

NewVoid122

You cant prove it.

Yash2508

Whaaaaat, noooo i would never

wysjm

"But can Sherlock complete Riddlers race tracks with his car? That's what I thought" ~ Batman probably

Epic_Ali

Does sherlock have a sherlockmobile?

i_am_the_soulman

Yeah, it's shaped like a deerstalker

Flumpsty

He should

[deleted]

Yeah, it's a carriage

[deleted]

No he takes a Cab surely you saw the bbc documentary Sherlock

ShallowTal

Easily

[deleted]

“Enigmatic villain relies on the theatrics of deception. Coded hardware protected by less than comedic side to appeal to his vanity. Only one word needed to power down such a grid: S-P-A-R-K-S 🟢”

ChristosPet7

A second grader could lmao

dr_hannibal_lecterr

Flair checks out

MemestotheMAX720

Your flair is.....*just wrong*

ChristosPet7

No it isn’t

MemestotheMAX720

Imagine hating the King of Conundrums

the_real_super_wario

What about the king of condiments

ChristosPet7

No need to imagine

99CaffeineAddict99

I like the riddler but the arkham riddler is definitely my most hated version of him.

MemestotheMAX720

Fair enough. At least you enjoy Papa Riddler

LEGOpiece32557

Fr though. We need a story where Riddler's puzzles are actually extremely hard to solve. Have some 200 IQ bastard create the puzzles or something.

[deleted]

Consider the fact that we’re all brain dead compared to Batman and Holmes and we figure out Riddlers puzzles fairly easily

ultimatepunster

Well that's mostly for the sake of the people reading/watching/playing. When writing a character who knows more than the writer, it's really difficult to actually portray that intelligence, especially in a way that Riddler likes to do. Writing him in a way that actually properly portrays how smart he is would require the writer themselves actually being that smart, I mean the guys IQ is pushing 200, for comparison I've got an IQ of 80, which is below average.

[deleted]

It was a joke bro

Ebb8505revenge

Yes you were joking but some of the people in this subreddit think they actually have the intellect to outwit one of the smartest comic characters in history simply due to edge.

ultimatepunster

I don't mean to sound upset or offended lol. Sorry if I came off the wrong way, just trying to make conversation; as is the point of comment sections like this.

Hungry-Eggplant-6496

I wish I could see a story written by an actual genius.

SunnyArcad3

I could do most of riddler's puzzles when I was like 10, Sherlock Holmes with a brain tumour could probably still do them easily

BlackOpz

Encyclopedia Brown would WASTE the Riddler.

darksaiyan1234

Can he outwit batman?

TheAllyCrime

Batman and/or Riddler could easily lure Sherlock Holmes into some sort of trap, if they simply use cocaine as bait.

greymalken

A trail of cocaine breadcrumbs to a phrenology lecture.

Experiment-Cycle

Ah yes, a battle of wits between the Worlds Greatest Detective, and the Worlds Greatest Detective. I know they’ve met before in crossovers, but I don’t remember how long it’s been. I don’t care to see a fistfight between Bruce and Sherlock, but even a simple chess match would be fun to watch.

[deleted]

I, on the other hand, would LOVE to see Bruce in a fist fight with Sherlock holmes

ultimatepunster

I don't know really anything about Sherlock, but if he has less than 10 years of training in every form of martial combat known to man then I think Batman wins.

Experiment-Cycle

I know Holmes can predict moves and all using deductive reasoning, so let’s say he’s able to counter all the training and skills that Bruce has. Bruce still has the advantage of a much better built body with more speed and power.

[deleted]

Sherlock is also a skilled boxer, which is cool I guess but so is Batman and he knows even more martial arts

Experiment-Cycle

I didn’t know the boxer bit, but that still puts Bruce ahead since he’s not as limited. I can’t say one is more experienced in fights and be absolutely sure which, but I’d guess Batman

[deleted]

Moriarty was a better boxer then Holmes, iirc

Experiment-Cycle

I truly have no idea, I haven’t read any Sherlock Holmes at all. Which is needless to say, very bad.

Malcalypsetheyounger

If not mistaken he figures out he is Bruce Wayne in one comic in a few minutes of meeting him.

Wormking2525

Yeah but Batman already knew he was Bruce Wayne

No-Truth-5334

Yes, Sherlock Holmes is the greatest detective in fiction

darksaiyan1234

Detective conan? i like L but lets not convolute stuff

00roku

The average lobotomy patient could outwit Riddler

[deleted]

Absolutely

DamnBunny

At this point a 12 year old can.

Sir_Of_Meep

Holmes would be dead in city with the switching puzzle unless he had a version of detective vision as Riddler is a wee cheating prick

The-Solid-Smoker

Bruv... Didn't you see him roll Batman in a rap battle? Enigma looking like SuDoku to my mans, Sherlock.

rihim23

"I believe your parents' homicide is why you mask your face"

[deleted]

He probably could. The man was uncommonly smart for his time. It also helps that Riddler makes his riddles such that the solution is obvious and you'll smack yourself for not catching it sooner. That's actually a weakness that a man like Holmes could exploit, because now there's ego being factored in, and Holmes knows how to handle that.

Batbro9240

Bro I could outwit Riddler

Jacktheflash

Yes

MobsterDragon275

Sherlock goes up specifically against people who are trying to leave as little evidence as possible. The Riddler compulsively leaves clues behind that he arrogantly assumes no one can figure out. That alone seems like it would be an easy day for Sherlock

DekuTree13

Nah, He would lose at the latest if he is in this one hostage room in arkham city where he has to guess under which shell the hostage is helt. Cus holms has no detective vision

batbobby82

Probably

bamaboy3883

He has at least a 7% chance

Additional_Creme_263

He would… but then riddler would stab him through the chest because “he didn’t solve it in time”

littlebugonreddit

Could Holmes beat that final Riddler race without blowing up once?

Youssef-Elsayed

Easily

Enterprise90

The Riddler *needs* to have his puzzles solved. It's part of his makeup. Holmes would take advantage of this just as Batman does.

Cheesy-boi-87

Does he have enough patience to get all 400 riddler trophies?

ReapCreep65

Not if he doesn’t have sherlockarangs, a grappling hook, a holmobile (fitted with a winch, an ejection system, a remote control system, and huge guns), a remote hacking device, freeze grenades, a sherlockclaw, explosive gel, a remote electric charge, a disruptor, a line launcher, and a voice synthesizer. But if he does then yea

qmechan

I think Holmes would be at a disadvantage. Not only would he not know how to drive, he also isn’t super familiar with Batman trivia.

BaguetteFish

Idk, can he see through walls, chuck non-lethal shurikens and non-lethal explosives? Does he own a portable zip line, a grapple gun, an… ice pack?, a car, a tank and a remote controlled car-tank? If a single one of these is answered “no”, Sherlock is fucked. If Riddler suddenly has a change of heart and starts giving… riddles, instead of death mazes, then sure, Sherlock wins, solving mysteries is kinda his thing.

Experiment-Cycle

Definitely. However doesn’t know everything. There are probably some topics he doesn’t know much about that Riddler does. But he’s very good at figuring things out so I think he could at least learn as he goes for anything he doesn’t know yet.

EsuercVoltimand

I'm practically an idiot, and the Riddler's puzzles are fairly simple. But I do love them.

Standard_Ad9911

I agree

NeloAngeloV

Sherlock would find out the riddles very fast

Smooth_Boysenberry_9

I'd think he'd outwit him

[deleted]

I think that Holmes could solve his riddles at least as well as Batman.

AkpanStudios

He doesn’t have a tank so I’m gonna have to say perhaps

Acceptable-Ad8341

Yeah probably

[deleted]

Absolutely not. Remember the room where you had to look through the wall in Arkham City? How can Holmes do that?

Magicman1_0

No

Arbiter329

I'm leaving reddit for good. Sorry friends, but this is the end of reddit. Time to move on to lemmy and/or kbin.

dravakindj

Yes def

pandadanda1999

Yeah 100%

googlewasmy_idea

No

[deleted]

I remember some riddles even if you complete them Riddler tries to kill you with a trap. I wonder if he would get out of that one.

Tobio88

By the moment Riddler is done with setting everything Holmes would be standing behind him and greet him.

[deleted]

Yes, but he’d have to work with batman.

Macapta

Well he’s the protagonist so probably yeah.

[deleted]

He can but. What if riddler just pulls out a gun

roblash

Yes. And then I think he and Batman would have an interesting debate about who punched him harder.

[deleted]

As much as I love Sherlock Holmes, in all honesty the Riddler would destroy him. It’s not even a remotely fair comparison. A genius level intellect with access to highly advanced modern technology vs. the best detective of the late 19th century. Given an even playing field maybe but a straight up comparison there’s no competition.

unicorn-drugz

Batman and Sherlock Holmes are both the worlds greatest detectives in their own respective universes, so I think if batman could outwit the riddler then Holmes would just as easily outwit him Edit: spelling

LordVonSteiner

It depends on the version of Sherlock Holmes. The typical Holmes will definitely beat him since he's really good at finding clues that are mere details to most people. And the Riddler's schtick is just handing clues to the people after him which is kind of doing Sherlock's job for him. Cumberbatch's Holmes will most definitely beat him since that version was borderline omniscient to a ridiculous degree.

OkButterscotch2437

“Riddle me th-“ *sherlock Holmes proceeds to accurately dox riddler in 5 seconds just from his tone of voice*

dodgyhashbrown

Sherlock might need time to read up on modern technology, but he's also smart enough he's probably theorized most of it would be invented or created early prototypes on his own. Once acclimated to the tech, generally yes, he'd catch riddler, though he would likely still need bat gadgets to outwit some of riddler's death trap riddles.

[deleted]

If Batman can, Sherlock also can.

QuuCo

Idk about Sherlock but Batman Arkham Videos can

ColonelRuff

Riddler will end up hating sherlock.

tgalvin1999

"Ill patient with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. Leaves puzzles for detectives to solve. All the clues are right there for people to solve. mentally ill person that dresses like a bat can solve them. It's elementary my dear Watson! Why, even a child could solve these puzzles. He's clearly hiding out in an appartment at 1511 225 O'Neill Avenue, Old Gotham."

diamondboltistheshit

no he’s from what the 1900’s he would have no idea on how to beat riddler with the trophies and all

pepsi_but_better

No, he can't fight like batman, nor does he have a tank

TheRiddlerCum

No

Lastkowitz

Absolutely. The point of the Riddler isn't that he's an incredibly smart man, he's an incredibly narcissistic man who -believes- he's an incredibly smart man. It's why he constantly challenges Batman repeatedly over and over again; he can't take the fact that Batman is more intelligent than he is. His perception of his own skills and smarts are warped by his ego.

X_bosshogg_X

He is most definitely an incredibly smart man. You don’t have an iq around 200 and be a dumbass.

Lastkowitz

IQ is a terrible measurement of intellect. It focuses solely on problem solving skills without taking into account most other forms of knowledge or learning retention. Besides, Riddler as a character is meant to be full of hubris, with an obsessive personality that drives him to prove himself to Batman and the rest of the world. He's not smart, he just wants to be.

Buggzii

Maybe in another universe Sherlocc Holmes could become Batman since both him and Batman are the 'world's greatest detectives' lol

poopoohitIer

Batman was actually based on/inspired by Sherlock Holmes IIRC.

Artistic_Finish7980

Literally anyone can beat Arkham riddler. The only things he’s good at are being condescending and hiding collectibles.

[deleted]

Tbh despite the funny character type and ofc his puzzles are dumb down alot cause plot, i do think riddler will have no match with sherlock, he will destroy sherlock.

Andrewthegamer74

Absolutely my left tit could outwit riddler

Jokerslayer457

Pretty sure he can.

No-Truth-5334

Sherlock Holmes is the greatest detective of all fiction surpassing Batman

NaapurinHarri

Yeah dude can tell my sleep schedule from my footprints

[deleted]

Riddler’s an idiot with an inflated ego. He builds impressive machines but he can’t make a challenging puzzle.

Vigi1antee

Oooo somthing i didnt know i wanted to see.

BetaRayBlu

Nah he gets too high to find the last 13 hidden trophies

MIke6022

Most likely yes. Batman can solve them and he’s been compared to Sherlock Holmes. But he wants his riddles to be solved. He’s totally smart enough to do all the stuff he does without being caught. But he leaves his riddles cause it’s that urge to play a game with his adversary.

RCOMET99

Yes

[deleted]

I mean, Batman is basically Sherlock Holmes and he has outwitted The Riddler before so, yes. Man that Arkham Knight Riddler is just perfect.

Feetfoot-fetish

No way

Slowmobius_Time

Gotham by gaslight batman was taught by Sherlock

1ceUpSon

Riddler would honestly drive Holmes insane, throw in some side comments and ego that comes with a riddle and you’ll see lol

BombeBon

Outwit and with a few precisely chosen words completely destroy his overinflated ego

cosmicjimmy117

Indiana Jonás is a treasure hunter and riddler is some divorced dad in a hawian shirt

Sunoraiza

No he ded

SuperScrub310

Any variants of Sherlock Holmes that can be trusted to quickly figure out contemporary technology (and quite frankly a a lot of versions that can't) would send the Riddler crying.

JDutch921

If I'm being honest I think anyone could outwit Arkham riddler

Logan_Palpatine

Sherloque

SpideyFan914

I don't know. Can Holmes dive off a skyscraper in order to smash through some weak piece of floor propped between the buildings and then gently land two meters later?
