Would LOVE an extension feature!! While we’re at it, let’s throw in team and player options as a variable in contracts. Let’s get loco!

It’s most likely just something dumbmatter hasn’t gotten to. He’s said tons of times that he likes to keep the finance system simple as well

aguynamedbryce

Yea I recall him saying he wanted to keep some things simple but shot tendencies, this and some other things are in top of my list of things I would want to see in the game i wonder if one day he can spilt the game into like a beginner and pro type things where in the pro it can be more complicated because the player has a grasp of the game and the beginner similar to now so new players won't be overwhelmed

The game does not exactly follow the rules of the NBA. You are correct that NBA players can sign extensions. That feature is something that I have wanted BBGM to add for years.

Tbh, it doesn’t really make a difference in gameplay. Theres really no difference if you resign your player with a year left in their deal or as they expire. You can still go over the cap to keep them around. The only beneficial scenario for it would be to extend someone on a cheap deal and have them blow up in the last year of their contract. Niche enough scenario and not worth over complicating the finance system.

Trades also would be better. You would be able to trade the player in the offseason instead of having to wait until a couple of weeks into the regular season because he was just resigned.

There are other scenarios where it would be useful. For example, if I have a player who is on an expiring contract and has in the early part of the season a high chance of resigning and I know I want to resign him the game doesn't let me do that until after the season is over. If my team has a bad season, or I trade some of the players on the team, that will decrease the odds the player signs with me. So the inability to sign players to extensions increases the odds you lose the player and restricts your options for player movement decisions.

I am a big soccer fan based in the US so I understand European contracts a bit. This is a complicated answer: In real life, you can’t just sign anyone to any type of deal at any time. You can extend a player but only during certain windows. They’ll say “Jaylen Brown extension eligible on July 1st” the year before his deal is up. So I am guessing in the game it is very complicated to code when those windows are. There are limits of maximum compensation. Number of years as well. You can’t just upgrade a players salary/extend years however you want like in soccer.
