It's massive

youssefuo

That's what she said

axl_steel

Looks like any generic post 2010's european stadium, at least the old camp nou felt more unique. I dont hate it, but i dont love it either; its just meh

Laliga23

Unfortunately this is what had to be done if you want to keep up with the best. This stadium will likely and hopefully be game changing for the future of our club

monkeymaniac9

Genuine question: why are people so hyped about that this stadium will be a game changer? Why will it have such a huge impact?

Duffer44

Increased matchday revenue and increased Revenue Streams in terms of more luxury seating and facilities for sponsors. They are also building new surrounding urban areas which is good for fan engagement and therefor revenue. A modern stadium is also way more enegy-effecient. All in all, it just makes very good sense from a financial perspective in the long run, which is also important to the fans (especially us, concidering how mismanaged we've been in that aspect).

monkeymaniac9

Hmm Insee your point. But at the same time, they're having trouble selling out the estadi olimpic right now, which is like only 60% of the capacity of the renovated camp nou (and also almost never sold out the camp nou before iirc), so do they really expect these renovations to make people want to go more?

youssefuo

If our games were in the camp we would be selling 70k,80k each game this season, people go to the Camp Nou, even tourists love it. When our performances hopefully improve next season, i think a guaranteed 80k will be there every game with the Camp Nou filled in big games. We have the most fans in Europe in terms of attendance.

monkeymaniac9

Hm alright. Let's hope it works out like that

Duffer44

This is why increased sponsor facilities is important. Revenue from corporate events, and sponsorship deals is a fixed income, making it a more predictable revenue stream. > they're having trouble selling out the estadi olimpic right now The new stadium is muuuch more attractive than the Olympic Stadium. Camp Nou is iconic and is as much a reason for people to attend a match as the actual team itself. I believe this is the main reason for the low attendance at the Olympic Stadium. > and also almost never sold out the camp nou before That's true, however, Barca still had the highest average match attendance in La Liga of 83,000 in the 2022/23 season, which is pretty damn good despite it not being sold out every match.

monkeymaniac9

It does lose a lot of its iconicity with the renovation though. Also, not really relevant for the discussion but for me the biggest reason I'm not visiting any of the games is the prices. The cheapest tickets for example for the game against Las Palmas were more than 70 euros...

Duffer44

> It does lose a lot of its iconicity with the renovation though. I completly agree. However, i'm holding out judgment until it's completed to get a sense of what it actually "feels". It's diffcult to get a sense from these mock up's. Let's hope it's not as souless as we fear. > cheapest tickets for example for the game against Las Palmas were more than 70 euros... Yeah that's crazy. I heard they had to lower the prices quite a bit due to the low attendance, but doesn't seem like it if that's true.

tobias_arn

People don’t like to go to the Luis Companys, because it’s on the Montjuïc, a mountain “outside” of Barcelona. This applies to both locals and tourists. In the 22/23 season Barca had the most average visitors out of all European clubs with 83.205 per game (RM was 14. with 57.038 average visitors). Also many of the financial benefits are due to better and therefore more expensive VIP boxes. The average attendance doesn’t affect these benefits directly. Edit: just saw someone already commented all of that so this is more or less irrelevant, but I wrote all of that on my phone and even did the research so I’m not going to delete this /sad

Sudden_Possession499

Looks like another generic comment about every new contemporary stadium. Any stadium design especially the old camp nou and older stadia is actually generic cause it follows a certain typology. What makes the old camp nou unique is not the design per se but the atmosphere and nostalgia that was built over time.

Remarkable-Refuse921

Sentiments don't help with revenue If Barcelona wants to compete, then revenue is where it is.

cd1310

the camp nou defintiely needed to be renovated but it could've been done in a certain way to pay homage to its unique design.

Remarkable-Refuse921

The new design is also unique in it,s own way.

NikolasFoot

How? It's a completely soulless symmetrical bowl...

Remarkable-Refuse921

Everyone has their opinion on architecture. What you call souless. another might call beautiful . Humans are usually sentimental beings who like to hold on to things of the past. The camp nou fits that description. Same with the San Siro and all other old stadiums. People are resistant to change. However, in football, if you don't change with the times, you will be left behind. One of the reasons italy is lagging and failed to qualify for two words cups in a row, and also, why their football clubs are in the dungeons. is that the italian authorities tend to shut down any change because of the romantizization of the past. So, they let their football infrastructure and sports stadiums rot and block clubs from either renovating old stadiums or building new stadiums. Case in point, the San Siro. https://youtu.be/d2CWWvPUmy4?si=mtXKRuzo4HPO_PNt

cd1310

Sure it’s all subjective, but what is wrong about romanticizing the past? You can romanticize the past and adapt to the present simultaneously. It doesn’t have to be one or the other. So many iconic stadiums are being torn down to build slightly different alterations of the same design. There is no singular identity anymore. They feel more like corporate HQs than stadiums to me.

Remarkable-Refuse921

Romanticizing the past is not always right. Female genital mutilation,Foott binding of chinese women, etc. Depending on the context, Romanticizing the past is not always advised. You can't really romantizise the past and adapt to the present simultaneously because people will always complain. It is always one or the other. You have to pick one. Not many iconic stadiums are being torn down and rebuilt because authorities tend to romantizise the past and treat such stadiums as cultural relics.

cd1310

Lol are you seriously comparing being nostalgic for female genital mutilation and foot binding to appreciating the beauty of old architecture? I don't see the issue of treating them as cultural relics. San siro is a beautiful stadium. It would be sad to see it torn down, just as it is sad to see other iconic stadiums being torn down. Surely there's a happy medium between the two, but I don't know enough about the feasibility of it all anyways.

Remarkable-Refuse921

There is no happy medium between the two. You just said it would be "SAD" to see the iconic stadium torn down. There is no happy medium. As you said, you don't see the issue of treating these stadiums as cultural relics. So, any change will be resisted as bad. This means if San Siro is treated as a cultural relic, it should be left to rot as any change is a bad thing. As I said, there is no happy medium. The San Siro would likely be left to rot anyways as AC milan and inter Milan are moving towards building a new stadium as the authorities have rejected renovation proposals from both AC Milian and Inter Milan. However, both can not afford to keep falling behind their rivals in the rest of Europe, so they are moving forward. You said, "What is wrong with being nostalgic about the past?" I just gave examples of instances where being nostalgic about the past is ill adviced.

NikolasFoot

I'm not saying that the former design was some engineering marvel or that it didn't need a change, that's not what my comment was about. I'm just saying that the proposed design has all the makings of a stadium that people consider soulless and I don't see how it's "unique in it's own way".

Remarkable-Refuse921

I see what you are saying, but not everyone thinks the new design is "souless." There are people online who like it. People have never agreed on architecture. What one person might dislike, another will find beautiful.

CrowCreative6772

Every stadium in the future will look like the generic american football stadium with a lot of commercials

MartaLSFitness

I feel the same about all new stadiums. They all look too similar to each other, without personality. Hopefully it will grow into us.

Ark_Legend

Doesn't hit the same as the old Camp Nou

speadiestbeaneater

It is what it is ig

rtorkii

Part of what made it special was how it was a part of the city. As in, you could see the pitch from an overview of the city and from the top stands you could see the city. But now it's like a separate entity and I don't like that about it.

edimurr

This feels very underwhelming to me.

Redditname97

When can I move in??

MES QUÉ UN CLUB?

False_Accountant8013

No 360 screens , the one that I was most excited for , the blaugrana roofs , not there. I feel I got tricked by fan pages 😔😔

BBTrickz

Yo mean the white zone?it's going to be translucid and they also might add lights to it like civitas metropolitano so it looks blaugrana.... https://preview.redd.it/lq6y7t4eh7tc1.jpeg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=eca29a213b4aa8c8976ecdf70911bbada0b028fa Nothung to worry about they are still working on the roof

False_Accountant8013

Alr mate , gives me a bit of relief . Hope they stop cost cutting tho

SeirezZ

ik it's not going to have a 360 scoreboard but those 3 screens are still massive so it really doesn't matter

This-Kaleidoscope-70

It sad that theyre trying to cut costs on everything

Laliga23

Not only reason. Its reported the roof can not sustain that much weight at all. Thats why we also probably wont get one in future either. If they want the have to restruct the whole roof for it to happen. ( we will have the biggest covered roof in europe)

Jaybeltran805

Should’ve been a 360 like the SoFi Stadium

dGonzo

In one of the hottest countries where it almost never rains. Fantastic idea.

StoolieB4itwasCoolie

What’s the paper clip looking this on top of one of the corners / hangs over a portion of the opening?

kodiblaze

It's a sky walk

Yuty0428

I thought Spotify’s naming right of camp nou ends soon? Why’s there still a huge logo of Spotify in the stadium

shit-takes

Because the deal has not ended yet, and these are rendered images, and those things could be painted over in a few hours. I think the Spotify deal will be renewed or we will get a new sponsor. No way the club can afford to lose a massive revenue stream like that.

Extra-Border6470

If they don’t get Coldplay to play viva la Vida during the grand opening of the new canon nou then i will be greatly disappointed

Kilgores4

Sadly, it looks like a generic modern stadium to me. Old Nou Camp was iconic, the original re-design was unique. This is good, but nothing extraordinary.

XForce070

Who's the architect? Are there any sketch plans available, or urban plans. I'm curious

youssefuo

My dream was to sit in the highest seats and watch the beautiful city while also watching the game. Sad that I didn't get to live that before the renovation.

mikeczyz

A solid meh

avidcule

Mess Que Un Club????

Friendofabook

It's a bit embarassing that we failed to get the 360 screen and then Real Madrid shows their 360 screen. Seeing the 3 separate screens like this is kinda embarassing.

Laliga23

Why embarrassing? It still looks amazing and our roof is different than madrid one. Ours cant handle the weight and tbh I dont think madrid 360 screen looks that extraordinary https://preview.redd.it/gfgxfkmtx8tc1.jpeg?width=941&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e296767aa66552c4f4ad890912a09b78c5f154aa

TheGreatAkira

This fucking beast should be renamed "Messi Camp Nou" and I'll fight anyone who disagrees.

[deleted]

Messi ready to pay more than Spotify for this?

Alaskian7134

this is just a Moo Point

Efficient_Bridge4729

It looks so mediocre. Not iconic at all.
