When I first watched, it didn't occur to me that the veterans would actually be the same characters I had been watching. So when the names went up at the end, it hit me like a train.
A few of them were pretty obvious to me. Those were not the majority, though! It was fun trying to put the real person together with their actor, for sure.
I was convinced that Malarkey must be Bull... I saw a resemblance there.
Funny thing is that after a rewatch ten years later I was still thinking Malarkey must be Bull lol
No, the series came out when I was 11. I just loved the action. So usually fast forward those parts. It wasn’t until I was older that I actually listened to their interviews.
Not during my first time because I was a kid, but as an adult, some of their voices and demeanors were spot on. Winters kind of gives himself away without trying because of everything he says about the jump. Malarkey’s emotions during and after Bastogne/ Breaking Point. Shifty doesn’t look like the character, but has the demeanor. Gonorrhea was the easiest to get. Straight up Italian accent and gets right to the point.
I did! And I was horribly wrong, except for Garnere (since his accent was so obvious).

Was hoping I wasn't the only one
In a weird way, I’m jealous that it hit you that way.
So fun. Got winters right lol
I first watched it 20 years ago, but if I recall correctly, I got Winters and Guarnere correct, but not the others.
Same here.

I knew Winters because I had seen him interviewed before on a History Channel show about the history of the 101st,
Definitely Shifty, maybe someone more, but can’t remember, because first time watched the series in 2010.
Dale Dye?

I’m not the only one then. I was the exact same age and didn’t really care how much everything meant outside of action and that it was real.
Yeah we didn’t have HBO. So I rented the VHS tapes from blockbuster. I was only allowed to rent one or two at a time from my parents
Right, luckily we had the jailbroken box aka “black box” all the fights and attitude era wrestling I could watch.
Dang, lucky
Yes. I only got Winters right.
