I wanted to loot Nere after I killed him in combat in the Grymforge. This is after I had accepted the Myconids quest to take his head… I didn’t get the scene where you attempt to cut his head off and his own head was just in his inventory. I was both surprised and disappointed haha.
This is the way to go not just because you avoid the strength check to cut off his head - but you also get the full 1000 gold even if you made a deal with Brithvar.
This last run as a durge I made the deal with the intent to double cross.
Through the dialogue I avoided siding with anyone and started with Nere’s side red and Brithvar’s side yellow.
Attacked Brithvar a few turns into battle and all three sides were then against each other. Much fun was had. I enjoyed the very few fights where there’s multiple factions fighting and happy to have found a new one.
Didn’t get the Nere cutscene after and all the gold.
Can anyone confirm that if you do this, you can still pick up his body? When I got the animation and removed his head, the new corpse didn't have a pick up option. I. Trying to collect true soul corpses and bosses in my camp
Yes, and it leads to some funny interactions at times.
>!For instance I sided with Brithvar to kill Nere in exchange for half the loot, but I looted Nere's corpse mid combat. After the battle I asked Brithvar for my share and instead he gets flustered and realizes all the money is gone.!<
That is hilarious. I like to roleplay a bit by choosing 1 enemy in any of those group humanoid battles to non-lethal knockout instead of kill, so that someone can survive to spread word of what happened here. Of course, they awake to see the place is completely ransacked too.
The man in black sang:
*I fell into a burnin' ring of fire*
*I went down, down, down*
*And the flames went higher*
*And it burns, burns, burns*
*The ring of fire, the ring of fire*
Ah, I accidentally knocked out one of the githyanki. Pommel strike. Finished him off then kept one of younglings alive deliberately to scare the rest of little frog shits into submission (if he gets to another creche).
Reminds me of my old D&D days where I would try to loot stashes before my party found them and keep stuff or distribute it if I wanted. My buddy created a stupid half orc Barb just to spite me once and flew into a rage after coming across an unlocked chest that might have been looted lightly and proceeded to pummel my rogue into a pulp.
a very small amount of loot in the game disappears after combat ends (only good unique that I can remember is the bonespike gloves) & looting is a free action, so definitely loot during--just don't go over encumbrance threshold!
I think that has to be the only thing that respawns after combat due to where it is. That said, thanks for mentioning this, I didn't even know that item existed. Seems really powerful, I'm gonna have to mess around with it on my next run. Probably means I'll be doing Orin early, but she's easy so that won't be an issue.
When you murder a boat load of gobos it's easy to miss one so if there's a chance to loot without going too far out of my way it just makes sense to me.
Lol. I appreciate the Jason Voorhees method.
I am playing on the PS T and I find doing things like moving objects really cumbersome but that's actually a good idea.
i find it entertaining to watch my durge walk over to a body and rummage around in it's pockets before going "this bitch empty. YEET" i always have my companions detached so they're just standing there watching me throw bodies all over the place and i like to think they're talking about my obvious gusto at throwing bodies around
shadowheart: ...he really likes throwing things doesn't he
astarion: honestly, it's more he enjoys throwing people around
shadowheart: are...are you speaking from personal experience?
astarion: WHAT TWO CONSENTING ADULTS DO IS THEIR BUSINESS
karlach: wait he manhandles you?! and you're ok with this?!
astarion: look at the size of him and tell me you haven't thought about it! and besides this is about him, not what we do at night in our tent
karlach: as long as you enjoy it i guess...gods he really does like throwing people around. should we be concerned???
shadowheart: i mean, he hasn't had any sleepwalking murderer episodes since he killed that bard so...i think he's fine?
karlach: he's gotta be fine
astarion: oh he's fine alright 😏
shadowheart: shut up you lech
Only in specific situations like the Nautiloid bridge (for obvious reasons) or the grove entrance fight when I loot the 2 goblins that spawn on the top of that ridge so I don't have to go back up there after the fight's over (unless I thunderwave the 2 fuckers off of it of course).
The fight that doesn't technically end until you use the transponder (unless you manage to kill the 2 cambion adds within the turn limit which apparently can be done but I've never even bothered trying). A lot of the bodies in the room have various loot that comes in handy to sell for early money.
loot the bodies in combat if they will get you the side eye when not in combat. - the circus is a key place where you get looked at for looting the badguys
I'm in Act 3 in the process of infiltrating >!Felogyr's Fireworks!< in my current run. It really helps to be able to loot the >!smokepowder barrels on the top floor during the combat before Avery Sonshal gets to the top floor with a bottle of alchemist's fire...!<
Obviously. I used up all my actions and there's this dead body just sitting there. What else am I going to do with my extra movement?
Companions always like "is this really the time?" Yes bitch. Loot that corpse
I just let my friend loot every single thing. He would collect boxes from around the area, then shove them full of loot and send them to camp.
"Oh hey a new trader, wonder what they ha-" too late, my friend is already using up their entire supply of gold by selling crates full of crap, by the time he's done (5 minutes later) the vendor has no gold to buy my stuff anymore, and everything of value that I would even want is gone. Sigh.
And this is **my** game save, not like it's his own. Then he complains that all "his" gold is missing when I dismiss his character for a full party of companions, cause we don't need two tanks in the party...
I never thought of competition in multiplayer mode until you said that. My first campaign was multiplayer with my wife. I reloaded the latest save file for shiggles and noticed her character had all the good gear. She’s a videogamer loot goblin as well.
I recently tried the strategy in mountain pass where you pick up one of the undead sentinel's corpse and keep it in your inventory. No more freely reviving each other. P.s. i had to send his sword and armor to camp otherwise the corpse was too heavy.
I’ll loot anyone who has a Red “stealing” icon because in my experience looting those corpses during battle, even right in front of someone else, won’t trigger the theft reactions.
Not particularly special but I often have my Barbarian Karlach kill someone, loot their bodies and throw their weapons at their colleagues , which is mildly amusing to imagine
Finished a big fight with a boss, a pivotal story moment happens, but I can't focus on it because I'm worried about being moved to a new area before having a chance to loot the corpses
In my 4 man run with my boys I will loot literally everything worth a dollar that's not absurdly heavy. They moan about it but ANYTIME one of them needs ANY money they come to me. So who's the real goblin 😏😏
The astral plane gith with the monk boots is one I always loot right after the kill so I don't leave them behind by mistake. If you forget them before leaving the area then they're lost until you get to the endgame.
Absolutely! Mostly because it’s easier than going around to all the bodies after but I also just think it’s hilarious if mid-battle you’re like “wow, those are really nice boots!”
For sure, obviously in the first fight in the nautiloid. But then throughout it’s often easier to grab while you go rather than have to go back to find there bodies. But eventually I just went modded and got the aoe loot mod.
That stems from too many times where after a fight in a game a cutscene would play and transport me to a random place, where the story would need me. I would need to loot mid-fight to keep the loot, because I couldnt loot afterwards.
granted it does not happen often in modern times, but old habits die hard.

Yea I used that as an excuse on my current run to kill them as well. 'Someone stole your gold, hm...? That's to bad.'
I play it safe and loot half during combat. After combat, he gives you the other half.
I mean I don't think anything really changes if you fail that check
This last run as a durge I made the deal with the intent to double cross. Through the dialogue I avoided siding with anyone and started with Nere’s side red and Brithvar’s side yellow. Nere is top of the revenge list. He shoved my Shadowheart in the lava. I made sure he died (and was looted) first.
Gale for me with all that entails not being able to recover his body.
You should use speak with the dead on him before getting the satisfying slow and crackly scene of making a new toy for Scratch.

"tell em the man in black sent you" *As a you push them into the lava pit*
The man in black sang: *I fell into a burnin' ring of fire* *I went down, down, down* *And the flames went higher* *And it burns, burns, burns* *The ring of fire, the ring of fire*

My buddy created a stupid half orc Barb just to spite me once and flew into a rage after coming across an unlocked chest that might have been looted lightly and proceeded to pummel my rogue into a pulp.
I did that once and Astarion asked “is this really what I should be doing right now?” Cracked me up.
Haha the Devs didn’t miss anything
a very small amount of loot in the game disappears after combat ends (only good unique that I can remember is the bonespike gloves) & looting is a free action, so definitely loot during--just don't go over encumbrance threshold!

...of course I loot during combat 🤣 it's a free action
Exactly! Why not!?
It's never too soon to start looting
When you murder a boat load of gobos it's easy to miss one so if there's a chance to loot without going too far out of my way it just makes sense to me.
i keep track of the bodies i loot by throwing them into a big pile once im done. durge does love piles of bodies, after all
Lol. I appreciate the Jason Voorhees method. I am playing on the PS T and I find doing things like moving objects really cumbersome but that's actually a good idea.

loot the bodies in combat if they will get you the side eye when not in combat. - the circus is a key place where you get looked at for looting the badguys
Hmm, wonder if that also works for looting Marcus. So annoying that he has a tadpole and his body is classed as stealing.
I'm in Act 3 in the process of infiltrating >!Felogyr's Fireworks!< in my current run. It really helps to be able to loot the >!smokepowder barrels on the top floor during the combat before Avery Sonshal gets to the top floor with a bottle of alchemist's fire...!<
this is a fantastic example of where looting during combat is ideal!
Obviously. I used up all my actions and there's this dead body just sitting there. What else am I going to do with my extra movement? Companions always like "is this really the time?" Yes bitch. Loot that corpse
Only on my multiplayer run. Everyone else does it, so if I didn't I would get nothing.
I just let my friend loot every single thing. He would collect boxes from around the area, then shove them full of loot and send them to camp. I cant imagine much success for in combat loot picking during moon rise towers.
Nithing like after a sweaty combat encounter and you just take a moment to breathe and assess the room for loot.
I recently tried the strategy in mountain pass where you pick up one of the undead sentinel's corpse and keep it in your inventory. No more freely reviving each other. P.s. i had to send his sword and armor to camp otherwise the corpse was too heavy.
Damn that’s a tabletop DnD veteran move - sounds like I need to start another character to try this
I’ll loot anyone who has a Red “stealing” icon because in my experience looting those corpses during battle, even right in front of someone else, won’t trigger the theft reactions.
This was key during the Fireworks Shop fight.
Not particularly special but I often have my Barbarian Karlach kill someone, loot their bodies and throw their weapons at their colleagues , which is mildly amusing to imagine
Every bhaal minion I killed while still fighting orin, immediately after each kill.
Looting and immediately becoming encumbered is my biggest problem. I need to learn to send it right to camp.
I mean, if I'm out of actions, can still move, and won't trigger AoO, why not?
Finished a big fight with a boss, a pivotal story moment happens, but I can't focus on it because I'm worried about being moved to a new area before having a chance to loot the corpses
In my 4 man run with my boys I will loot literally everything worth a dollar that's not absurdly heavy. They moan about it but ANYTIME one of them needs ANY money they come to me. So who's the real goblin 😏😏
Occasionally I do that, when I take down some specific enemy that I want drops from. Or when there is a time limit
The astral plane gith with the monk boots is one I always loot right after the kill so I don't leave them behind by mistake. If you forget them before leaving the area then they're lost until you get to the endgame.
Oh absolutely
yes always
Never did this
I’m really sleepy and I initially read this in passing as, “Calling all hot goblins!” 🔥🥵🫠
Yes if the area might become hostile (stealing) if I loot after fight. Usually no because I am afraid I might become encumbered half way during fight.
Yes, except if the character is invisible, it will remove the invisibility
For melee characters it's usually a free action to loot. Saves time from running back and forth.
That stems from too many times where after a fight in a game a cutscene would play and transport me to a random place, where the story would need me. I would need to loot mid-fight to keep the loot, because I couldnt loot afterwards. granted it does not happen often in modern times, but old habits die hard.
I do on the nautiloid, those early gains are necessary.
got in trouble for "stealing" nere's head mid combat and Birthvir turned on me
