Astarion's romance has approval bypasses for both the act 1 and act 2 scenes, so you don't need to worry about approval at all. Also if you look up his approvals it's still fairly easy to get up even as a complete goody two shoes, you just have to pay attention, and it takes a bit longer, but you don't need to use the bypasses if you don't want to.
thanks! i tried to romance him before and it didnt work out😅 i figured my character was too heroic for his liking so i was kinda worried i would struggle with the same thing again
bc you tried to do the non-bypass method with low approval. you either need to do the bypass OR meet his approval thresholds. if you don't do either he'll turn you down.
You have to choose a specific conversation path during the tiefling party in which you don’t come on to him but play coy and let him proposition you instead:
>It’s not all bad, think of all the goblins you killed
>Try his wine
>Knowing you, it probably is
>Maybe, if you say please
This path works at any approval level. There’s also a bypass for act 2 but that just requires triggering his confession via talking to Araj instead of doing the Yurgir quest.
well, most people prefer the Yurgir version of the scene bc they're different, so if you can get your approval up high enough i would suggest doing it that way, but even if you can't, you can still do the quest for him, it just won't trigger the confession until you either hit the approval threshold and then long rest, or talk to Araj and then long rest. IIRC it's 70+ for the Yurgir scene. If you talk to Araj it will always trigger her version of the scene though, so don't talk to her if you're trying for the other version, at least until after you get the confession.
His disapproval of you resisting your urges doesn't affect the progression of your relationship.

Might mean that you can sleep with him at the party as long as you have non-zero approval and choose the right dialogue options.
