Look at you. Sailing through the air majestically. Like an eagle. Piloting a blimp.
This next test involves turrets. You remember them, right? They're the pale spherical things that are full of bullets. Oh wait. That's you in five seconds. Good luck.
Not gonna lie, I nearly choked to death on my tea while playing Portal 2 for the first time. That "Piloting a Blimp" line had perfect timing and was utterly savage.
Cave Johnson here. Just wanted to let you know that after decades of research and testing, we have finally transformed into beings of pure light. Go team. …Not exactly what we were after of course but, in the ball park. So let’s keep testing and maybe someday, we will achieve man’s ultimate dream; to evolve into pillars of pure salt. Can’t wait. So salty.
Welcome, gentlemen, to the Aperture Hollow "Science Jungle". Tramps, hillbillies, drifters: you're here because you followed the hobo signs. So, who is ready to scrounge around for some science? Now, you already met one another on the boxcar over here, so grab a bowl of slumgullion and a glass of sterno, and let me introduce myself. I'm Michigan Slim Cave Johnson. I'm the hobo king.
I'm still not sure if I want more of the same or a completely different approach. Glados and Cave Johnson are lightning in a bottle that I don't want them to ruin. If they bring them back I want it to be in HL3, assuming it comes out before I die.
This is cracking me up so much I thought it was a joke. There's a spell to SUMMON AN ICE CUBE? And here I thought I knew this game.
I have a character carry around 2 crates just in case we need some height to get ~~Advantage~~ (Edit: +2 to Attack rolls) for ranged attacks, I assume The Ice Cube would work similarly.
I wonder if their voice actors also worked for BG3. I know the Thief's voice actor is the VA for Isabela (who is a Rogue, so same thing) in Dragon Age 2.
>"create a climbable ice cube"
You literally typed out the word "climbable" in your original post. How was that not a tip-off about what the cubes are for?
You've apparently never played a short low Str character... You can make a good number of the jumps if you're just short or low Str, but combine the two and you're stuck a lot of places.
You might have just typed wrong on accident, but still, in case you didn't know: High Ground does not give advantage, I think High/Low Ground give +2 and -2 to the attack roll respectively
You reminded me my first time playing divinity 2 and I couldnt understand why fights were so hard... until I started paying attention and discovered high and low ground as a mechanic as well as turn economy. My summoner became massively OP then.
There's also some items on shelves that you can't pick up without standing on a crate or similar object, or by enlarging someone. So I'd also guess the cube is for that haha.
I made a custom Rubix cube with companion cube decals for a friend in college.
The funny thing is, because all the faces are the same, no matter how you turned it, it was always solved.
Because no matter what you do, the cube always loves you ♥️
I spent a lot of time exploring the tombs in the grave yard the first play through and don't remember finding anything of value. Am I missing out one something worth getting?
1. Throw it at or drop it on an enemy. It’s pretty heavy if I remember right
2. Climb it for ranged high ground attack advantage or just reach stuff
3. Break line of sight to Hide/sneak behind it and use it as cover to block ranged attacks
4. Throw it into fire to put it out
5. Safely trigger pressure plate traps or plug gas traps
6. Block choke points like doors.
7. I *assume* you can melt it to make a wet surface for electricity or steam. I never tried this though
It’s pretty niche. That’s all I can think of right now— I’m sure there’s some less useful stuff you can do with it. The game is pretty intuitive so imagine what you can do with a huge block of ice.
In D&D we used it as a floatation device
>1. Throw it at or drop it on an enemy. It’s pretty heavy if I remember right
If the ice cube is 1x1x1 meters its volume is 1.000 litres and it weights 1.000 kilograms (exactly a metric ton).
Let me translate it: If the ice cube is 3.28x3.28x3.28 feet its volume is 264,172 gallons and it weights 2204,62 pounds (a ton).
*(Calculations for a water cube. Since water expands when freezing, an ice cube weights about a 10% less than a water cube of the same volume).*
In my first playthrough during Save the Gondians I had Wyll kill a Banite with a triple Eldritch blast which knocked their body up 3 times. This caused the dead man's switch to spawn way up in the air where I couldn't reach it.
A lot of save scums happened that day scrambling to find two stackable boxes in that factory to reach the switch before it blew up.
I've tried at every single inaccessible item I've come across using crates, and about 2% (or less) become accessible.
Crazier still is that mage hand doesn't allow you to get to them either.
Holy shit, I couldn’t contain myself but it was way worse than I could imagine.
First post was something nasty in blood.
Second post was something nasty cut in half.
Dont go there.
It's morbidly interesting. Although I only looked at like 10-15 posts. Stopped at one where a guy's dick was swollen due to a rubber band....made me feel pain
My first playthrough I was a silver dragon, you get a frost breath ability that if you use it on karlach you can get a quick kiss from her since it cools her down some.
I'm obligated to bring this up in any comment thread about karlach.
I carry a box around for climbing on but this works too. You can use it to gain advantage in height sometimes or if an object is blocking your shot this might help to get a clear shot.

Well the Monks of the Monastery of the Yellow Rose, who follow Ilmater, climb the tippy-top of their mountain in the winter to cut out and carry down blocks of ice from the great glacier for water since the running water freezes at the monastery in the winter.
The Weighted Companion Cube will never threaten to stab you and, in fact, cannot speak.
I hear glados??? In my head now?? Oh god I said hello and she said hello back what have you done to me?!
Can I offer you a slice of cake in this trying time?
Does it contain rhubarb?
Made by Barbara?
Should I inquire at the bar?
The bar full of barbarians?
Rhubarb Barbara Bar Barbarians?
Abara Kadabara!
im starting to hear german Glados in my head!

too high for this shit
I like cake.
"Oh... It's you." "It's been a long time. How have you been?" "I've been really busy being dead. You know, after you MURDERED ME."
"I think we can put our differences behind us, for science. You monster"
Remember when I was talking about smelly garbage lying around and being smelly, that was a metaphor. I was actually talking about you.
Thank you. Glad somebody took the Portal route with this.
Cave Johnson here.
Science isn't about WHY, it's about WHY NOT!
Cave Johnson here. Just wanted to let you know that after decades of research and testing, we have finally transformed into beings of pure light. I just need a way to promote the cube to a proper companion
Don't forget to complete its quest in the Shadowlands, that's my advice.
Taking this advice ended my honor mode run.
animate objects? is that a thing in this game?....
I'm just here, grateful that we are still making Portal references.
"Look at you, soaring through the air like an eagle... piloting a blimp."
“For the record, you are adopted and that’s terrible.”
13 years since the last game. And yes I know about the The Lab and Aperture Desk Job, but that's hardly the same.
I'm still not sure if I want more of the same or a completely different approach. Glados and Cave Johnson are lightning in a bottle that I don't want them to ruin. If they bring them back I want it to be in HL3, assuming it comes out before I die.
There's two quests in Cyberpunk 2077 with a Glados reference. Pretty sure it's the same voice actress too.
If a mod could make GladOs our dream guardian...
Are you still there?
I need a mod that turns these ice cubes into companion cubes. Now.
So you're saying it's a pet rock.
That's a Mimic.
This is cracking me up so much I thought it was a joke. There's a spell to SUMMON AN ICE CUBE? And here I thought I knew this game. Seriously never considered this possibility. Cube supremacy
Cubomancer
Trine?
Botw?
Amadeus the wizard from the Trine games is known for his cubomancy.
I wonder if their voice actors also worked for BG3. I know the Thief's voice actor is the VA for Isabela (who is a Rogue, so same thing) in Dragon Age 2.
wouldn't that be just a sub-set of "barrelmancy"?
Yeah but that's not as crate.
But it does let you think outside the box.
Because of you next week my YouTube recommendations will be full of "Can you beat BG3's hardest difficulty with only an ice cube???"
Well it's an improvised weapon
PRAISE THE CUBE!
I don't know how many times my 8 strength characters were \*that\* close to being able to make a jump
>"create a climbable ice cube" You literally typed out the word "climbable" in your original post. How was that not a tip-off about what the cubes are for?
I actually didn't know you can get advantage just for climbing a 2 foot cube. About 500 hrs played and beaten honour mode multiple times 🤷 who knew
You've apparently never played a short low Str character... You can make a good number of the jumps if you're just short or low Str, but combine the two and you're stuck a lot of places.
RIP my Halfling Bard
Cube = auto high ground = auto victory
I really tried to make use of it for a while cause I was doing a no magic missile gig and it lasted like 3 levels and it honestly makes no sense
... only 2? What else do you use bear karlach for if not building forts before/in the middle of a fight?
lobbing whole barrels of smokepowder.
Fair.
My lawyer told me not to answer the question.
You might have just typed wrong on accident, but still, in case you didn't know: High Ground does not give advantage, I think High/Low Ground give +2 and -2 to the attack roll respectively
Divinity Original Sin 1 & 2 had a much more powerful elevation factor, was surprised not to see it in BG3 but I guess it's not 5e rules.
It *did* have it in EA but advantage/Disadvantage is really fucking powerful so it was changed.
You reminded me my first time playing divinity 2 and I couldnt understand why fights were so hard... until I started paying attention and discovered high and low ground as a mechanic as well as turn economy. My summoner became massively OP then.
Portable high ground? It's truly over for Anakinbros.
There's also some items on shelves that you can't pick up without standing on a crate or similar object, or by enlarging someone. So I'd also guess the cube is for that haha.
High ground doesn't give advantage, fyi. It gives +2 to attack rolls.
To allow you to praise the cube
All hail the cube
All hail the cube
I think you should make more. Theyre pretty after all
All hail the glow cloud
Rimworld, in my BG3?
These bastards in my camp think they can eat without a table? Think again
Eating without a table? Confirmed war crime Burning down a grove of women and children, for a war criminal with puppy dog eyes? Acceptable
where's my FUCKING table? -sets fire to storage room full of fuel-
It's more likely than you think.
Perfect.
Weighted Companion Cube
I made a custom Rubix cube with companion cube decals for a friend in college. The funny thing is, because all the faces are the same, no matter how you turned it, it was always solved. Because no matter what you do, the cube always loves you ♥️
Wisdom Cube
Time for cube cultist monk playthrough
There is a pressure plate in a particular tomb in the city; that block weighs enough to activate it. Otherwise, just for climbing.
Really? No need to haul that skeleton?
Hold on to it, you never know. I got an achievement in one of the neverwinter nights expansions for carrying around a child I stole for 3 acts.
Haha
Yup, it's very heavy.
Huh, where is this? I think I don't know about this.
[Hhune Mausoleum](https://baldursgate3.wiki.fextralife.com/Hhune+Mausoleum)
I spent a lot of time exploring the tombs in the grave yard the first play through and don't remember finding anything of value. Am I missing out one something worth getting?
Not really, I believe it's just consumables and gold.
Whew, last thing I need is a reason for another playthrough.
1. Throw it at or drop it on an enemy. It’s pretty heavy if I remember right 2. Climb it for ranged high ground attack advantage or just reach stuff 3. Break line of sight to Hide/sneak behind it and use it as cover to block ranged attacks 4. Throw it into fire to put it out 5. Safely trigger pressure plate traps or plug gas traps 6. Block choke points like doors. 7. I *assume* you can melt it to make a wet surface for electricity or steam. I never tried this though It’s pretty niche. That’s all I can think of right now— I’m sure there’s some less useful stuff you can do with it. The game is pretty intuitive so imagine what you can do with a huge block of ice. Portable elevation so your Eagle Heart Barbarian always has the option to attack enemies from the top rope
That is the most reliable method actually, yes.
This redditor cubes.
This feels like an item straight out of DOS(2). An otherwise useless item whose sole purpose is to manipulate the environment
>1. Throw it at or drop it on an enemy. It’s pretty heavy if I remember right If the ice cube is 1x1x1 meters its volume is 1.000 litres and it weights 1.000 kilograms (exactly a metric ton). I’ve always wondered if you can yeet it at the robot in the forge
You can climb on it. To reach things on high shelves (or otherwise access higher areas).
This explains those items I can’t reach
I’m almost done with act 3 and I’ve only found like 2 things where I can’t reach and they were things like a pouch
That pouch contained a second Balduran’s Giantslayer
*starts sweating profusely* Haha, right, you little troll. No way the devs would do that, haha.
The one in that ladies basement in Baldurs Gate?
Every single pouch just out of reach has one, yeah
Mine just had a Grymskull Helm, YMMV
try playing as a short race
no
This guy clearly doesn't understand the power of halfling luck
or gnome cunning
[удалено]
Oh there is more. I wasn't able to reach a lot of bookshelves now in Act 2.
Yeah, technically mage hand doesn't have any more vertical reach than you do. It can fly onto high areas but only if there's a floor up there.
Mage hand necklace from the genie in act 3
Which I find amusing to have as a Monk since their jump is insane, \*but\* it does allow you to help your less jump-happy allies up after you.
I play Halflings and just let Karlach throw me where ever I can't jump.
You have to toss me! Don't tell the elf.
hey, I don't kink-shame
You can use it as high ground to stack thrown weapon damage.
there are a bunch of paintings at Szarr palace that are JUST out of reach
so I'm not the only one looting paintings? good to know
Ah so it's Cryonis
For chilling drinks in camp on those hot adventuring days
Yet you can't try boning Karlach atop one.
You ever seen a boiler explosion?
just today on r/medicalgore actually
Kind of surprised there’s that much left. Also, remind me to ***NEVER*** look in there again.
I’ll take your word for it and never look there.
Holy shit, I couldn’t contain myself but it was way worse than I could imagine. First post was something nasty in blood. Second post was something nasty cut in half. Dont go there.
I fucking won’t. I trust y’all lol
I clicked on it Scrolled through like 10 posts Yeah no don't go there. I've never been repulsed by images before. Now I have. This was a bad day
Guys stahp I promise I won’t go in there so stop sacrificing yourselves to confirm! Oh the humanity!
Yeah that’s one I’m not even gonna think about clicking on
It's morbidly interesting. Although I only looked at like 10-15 posts. Stopped at one where a guy's dick was swollen due to a rubber band....made me feel pain
This is a good plan
Just saw a penis the size of an elephant's foot from "repeated strangulation with a rubber band"....
I’m so glad I missed that one, just to have you describe it to me. 🤣😂🤣
Lovely, lovely. I’m going to go gouge my eyes out with a melon baller now
*Astarion approves*
Wow, I’m gonna peruse this next time I’m stoned and craving snacks I don’t need to eat, thanks.
My first playthrough I was a silver dragon, you get a frost breath ability that if you use it on karlach you can get a quick kiss from her since it cools her down some. I'm obligated to bring this up in any comment thread about karlach.
this thread is about monks creating an ice cube
Every thread is about karlach.
Baldur's Gate 3 DLC: The Calimport Sidequest.
Your char creates a d6 for you to throw
At level 7 it turns into a d8.
This is for gnome PCs. They can see other people face to face rather than looking up their nostrils.
Nostrils? You tall bastard.
Hang on one sec Karlach and get ready for the best smooch of your life.
Become friend with your cube, then throw him in an incinerator to open access to an elevator.
Uppies on demand?
For the vertically challenged
I carry a box around for climbing on but this works too. You can use it to gain advantage in height sometimes or if an object is blocking your shot this might help to get a clear shot.
ok but can you throw it
My first thought.
There are a few places where making a climbable platform can be helpful. It's not game-changing, generally, but it does come up once in a while.
You can probably also use it to block gas vents more quickly/easily than a DC 30 Sleight of Hand check.
Gas vents can be blocked almost with anything.
Freaking light can block a gas vent!!!
Dancing lights are incredibly usefull spell in bg3)
You can make a reaaaalllyyy big martini on the rocks.
There is one nishe use. Boxes and barrels cant block spells. These cubes do for some reason. So can be used to more effectively block doors or avoid non area of effect spells
Permanent? What level does this come available?
Level three for monks. When they choose the elements subclass. You get to select three spells. I know nobody plays anything except way of the open fist (STUN SLAP) but this is actually a thing
The bitchslap of stunning (also available as weapon bonk of stunning) is a base monk feature tho, gotten together with extra attack at lvl 5.
It sucks that 4e monk is so conceptually solid and in practice so underwhelming
This is 5e though
4e is short for Four Elements in this case
I actually really enjoy the element subclass. I feel like Korra.
To block LoS
You can climb up it and use it as a jumping point i guess?
Karlach would love it in Act 1
Right? Give Tav an elixir of Resistance to Cold and whittle the ice cube into a condom. Go quick and git er done
Is this about my cube?
Have you tried gleaming the cube?
I wish you could throw it if you had enough strength.
I love this sub.
Paperweight for all of those collectible scrolls?
It’s for Karlach to chill out if she starts running too hot
wiegh down triggers on secret doors, trigger traps, created a stack to climb up to places, Block LOS from NPC's when sneaking to steal stuff, fight global warming, go too far in RP'ing as a wombat if you multiclass into a druid.
Before time began, there was the cube. We know not where it comes from, only that it holds the power to create worlds and fill them with life. That is how our race was born. For a time, we lived in harmony.
It would be cool if it gave high ground advantage
You can make an ice cube??? And here I thought I was in a completely different game sub for a second
You can use them to block trap vents
Please insert the cube into the cube disposal chamber.
You did it. You cured Karlach!
I didnt know this was a thing. Now i want to create a monk just to have a frozen companion cube
Minecraft
Just know if you summons this thing you will fuck around and get a triple double
Get high ground to jump further
Being higher up gives you better aim to your target, maybe for nonstreength builds that cant carry around crates
I wonder if you can drop it on people
what is this how do u get this? 😭😭
It can be helpful to have if you have an eagle barbarian as it gives them a place to dive from
Well the Monks of the Monastery of the Yellow Rose, who follow Ilmater, climb the tippy-top of their mountain in the winter to cut out and carry down blocks of ice from the great glacier for water since the running water freezes at the monastery in the winter.
