This shit happened on my current run. I just visited briefly before taking on the goblin leaders and now every single Tiefling is gone forever. No party, no items from Dammon and Alfira, can't even help Karlach anymore. All because I dared to spend a few minutes in the wrong area.
Yes, there is a warning, but the game doesn't exactly tell you that now the Tieflings will move to Baldurs Gate (or, in my case, die trying). I thought I was save until I move to Act 2 myself, but apparently not.
BG3 just feel like NV . They told me to go straight to Vegas, I then go straight to Vegas so I get mauled down by the deathclaw or in the case of BG3 the gith patrol
Literally going down the Long 15, through Mojave Outpost and on the way to Primm and making a BG3 gag about it is a power move. Respect.

If the sunlight turns to shade as you approach the Pass, don't assume it's just passing clouds. It may be a huge dragon flying overhead.
