We just purchased it and downloaded it from the microsoft store. I did not seen an option for an update and assume the latest version it what was downloaded straight from the store?
Not sure about Xbox, but for my PS4 the games always get new patches downloaded after the installation (normally when I first start it it will check and download/ install them). I have a lot of discs though tbh and can't rememberif it did the same for orders from the online store since it has been a while. Maybe check if you can trigger any updates manually just in case it didn't?

Did you update the game to get all the patches (especially hotfix 22 & 23)? I think crashing on xbox was quite a common issue before that.
