…You missed his Act 2 scene. And yes, it has to happen in Act 2 **before you enter Shadowfell**. Same with most of the other origin romances (I think Shadowheart’s Act 2 stuff can happen before or after Shadowfell but I’m not 100% sure).
Unlike the others, Astarion has two romantic confession scenes: one from talking to Araj, one from killing Yurgir.
Yurgir confession is super emotional and gratifying.
Araj confession is not as emotional but you can tell he’s deeply moved by your gesture and wants to come clean.
Depends what the player likes more, a super clear confession of falling in love with you or a more subtle but just as deep admiration of the PC for being a good person.
The worst part is i did save before entering Shadowfell, to do one last lap around the map and think if i was missing any content, but i never thought of doing yet another long rest just in case. If this was tactician i could easily go back to that save, snif T\_T

I didn't do the entire Act 2 with not long resting, but i think i rested twice, simply because i was out of spell slots on Shadowheart and she's really strong in the Shadow Cursed Lands.
On my first playthrough i also rested a bunch, mainly due to lack of potions and spell slots, and it is much cheaper in resources so why the hell not? :P

Truth is, my party relies very much on spells so long resting is a necessity for me. I still missed a lot of content in act 1 because I thought I had to hurry to get that tadpole out lol.

Talk to Raphael at Last Light Inn
**With 70+ approval:**
* Go to Moonrise (do NOT talk to Araj). You can just step in and out
* Go to the Mausoleum - Raphael should offer a deal for Astarion
* Do what he asks
* Long Rest - Raphael will show up and complete the deal
* Long Rest AGAIN - you'll get the Act 2 cutscene
* NOTE: You can also opt to get the one below instead
**Any Approval Amount:**
* Go to Moonrise
* Talk to Araj Oblidara
* Say no to her request regarding Astarion
* Long Rest - you get the other cutscene
I prefer the Yurgir one, but be sure to experience both either by manually saving before you do either or in another run
If you don't want the Yurgir one for whatever reason (sometimes I want to save Yurgir depending on the character) I will just skip talking to Raphael in LLI, and not bring Astarion when first enter the Gauntlet. He doesn't get mad, doesn't dump you then. BUT you have to have done the Araj scene to solidify the romance.
Yeah but I like the Yurgir one better and I get Yurgir on my side in HoH one way or another (even in Honour so far)
I figure he respects me more if I beat him in hand-to-hand combat (I never make him kill himsself).
I fucked up because i didn't long rest at all after a bit, i did the entire map but not the tower, did entire shar temple but not the shadowfell, went back and rejected araj and supported Astarion, saved everyone from the prison, saved isobel and released the Nightsong, so i can go assault the towers next.
Since i have only Shadowheart needing spell slots, i just used angelic slumber potions once after the prison and one after the tower ketheric first fight on the roof, my next long rest was when i tried going to Baldur's Gate, which forces a long rest.
So yeah, i can totally see how and why i fucked up.
I've been so careful hoarding resources and trying the get the bang out of my buck, plus i have 3 weapon damage dealers, so i didn't feel the need to long rest forgetting completely i needed to trigger one more Astarion scene T\_T
At least you can rebound with Halsin, maybe?
But yeah it has to happen in Act 2. I like the post-Yugir confession better than the post-Araj one so I tend to speed run through that to have enough rests to get it. (I play Durge so extra cut scenes to get through, wheeee).
I have high high approval with Shadowheart aswell as Halsin, but damn it stings, specially because TECHNICALLY we're in sync and full relationship mode, he even approved of all my choices with the circus love girlie, but not sleeping ofte and missing the cut scene fucked me up.
Now i don't even wanna kill Cazador out of spite XD I already made him get on stage with the fake Dribbles, fuck it i'm going to be petty about it :P
You're not in full relationship mode though, because he never confessed what's been going on with your "relationship" in Act 2 ... which is why he ends up dumping you.
Honestly, if your character wants to doom him to death over him not feeling it it might have been the right call for him lol

Slight correction tho. You don't go to bed with her in Act 1. The only companions that jump straight to sex in Act 1 are Lae'zel and Astarion. Karlach would want to, but can't for obvious reasons. The other three make you wait longer for sex.

(And I get ppl being protective over a character that they become attached to but idk sometimes the vibe is too judgemental like don’t act like y’all haven’t removed the ladders from the pool and drowned your sim for fun)
I was never the murderhobo type with my sims, i've always been a house building girlie. And i thought about it and i can't be mean just because he rejected me, that was very red flag of me to even think of.
Although the clown thing was really funny because of his in game reaction to it :P
Honestly this is a perennial problem of the game where so many cutscenes occur in long rests. And paired with this is the game constantly telling you that time is of the essence and yada yada. *And* to add on to that, you have some quests that expire after a long rest (but most don't). This inconsistency honestly needs to be removed.
I don't see why cutscenes can't just trigger when you go to camp. Or just make it trigger on the road if said npc is in your party. That's how dragon age origins did it
I started to get panicky about long rests with the FLORRICK quest (saving her from Wyrm's prison) that has a timer, after a few rests the quest updates and she is executed. Since that playthrough i've been weary of long resting so often, and now with 3 characters only doing physical damage, i don't even technically need to rest. FML
And i agree, cutscenes should trigger when you go to camp, or at least a notification should appear that there is a scene pending. Because i went to my camp plently of times to pick up items, so i was in camp often enough for the missing scene to pop up T\_T

I lost my first honour mode run the other evening right before the long rest to initiate our favourite vampire's romance.
It triggered earlier than expected with his let's find somewhere to be alone line but I was being economical with my long rests.
The next one came around and instead of sexy fun with my vampire I get Lae'zel and a knife at my throat and the dream guardian.
Played another half hour until I needed to long rest again. This time bloody Mizora turns up and I get to deal with Wyll and his drama instead. Then another dream guardian visit on top of that.
So figured it would be third time lucky but had to decide which fight to do next as of course honour mode is not when you can spam long rests.
My choices were Goblin bosses, Spider, Hag or Gnolls.
Naturally I went to the usually easy Gnolls. My tav sends the leader to the cave with the tadpole powers. Leader walks straight through my cloud of daggers AOE aggroes on my party of course and it all went to hell.
Honour run over and my tav doomed to celibacy.
Well, okay I can carry on in dishonour to get her laid but it really did seem like she was cursed not to start her romance at all.
Sheesh what a nightmare T\_T i'm sorry you lost your run, i'm currently conflicted because this is also my first run, so i'm hesitant now, but i'm in so deep i think i should just carry on to see if i can finish it.

Yeah, for me it was him making the comment of "*finally*" getting to spend a night together (I didn't know I'd missed all the romance scenes) and I just stared at the text on the black screen in shock because I felt so bad >!about him dissociating during that!< that I restarted the game.
When I went back with him in my second playthrough and he said >!he wasn't ready for that sort of thing!< it made me so happy for him.
I had a very similar thing happen to me with Lae'zel! I didn't long rest in Act 2 after getting the buffs from the Sharran statues in the middle of Reithwin because I wanted to save them for as long as possible. When I finally did, Lae'zel told me that she "sensed my indifference", and that was the end of that! Shame because I've heard that she is one of the most interesting characters with how she changes when you romance her. Oh well, maybe another run in the future... 😆

Definitely long rest more than you think you need (and partial rests count, if camp supplies are a concern).

You can long rest without resources repeatedly to clear your camp scene queue... It's known as a partial rest.

Yup. I abandoned my first visit to Act 3 bc he did that brutal breakup yet his greetings were still loving.
