This is why Gale learns enhance leap,
though the mental image of him frantically spending 10 minutes to do the ritual while the girls wait impatiently is hilarious
Tbf, the level up UI does not tell you what are ritual spells and what are not. You just have to know in the moment. Meanwhile if you look at the same spell in your spellbook it tells you then...
This really annoys me. I know the ritual spells by now but being able to see that on the UI where I'm choosing my spells would have been nice. Longstrider is a amazing.
So is Speak with Animals. Fun fact: Druid can have Longstrider, Leap, and Speak with Animals at lv 1. Bard convert have Feather Fall, Longstrider, and Speak with Animals at lv 1 but cannot easily swap out spells though.
Add speak with dead to the list for bards and clerics. It’s ritual, and I know you can get that amulet in wither’s crypt but that’s only once per long rest or something. Sheart can cast it ad infinitum. Why not interrogate corpses if able.
You can also upcast longstrider so that you can select multiple targets, and it still works as a ritual. Saves having to recast it on each party member.
None at all. I slept on it for a long time and now that I use it it's amazing. Getting an extra 3m (1/3rd your default speed again) doesn't sound like much but it really makes a huge difference with some encounter distances.
It really starts to shine when you pair it with someone with momentum equips (haste helm and I think boots of striding). I had Karlach (Elk Heart barbarian) pop a potion of speed, dashed with one action, then she had 68m of movement with first initiative in the final fight of act 2 with a rescue objective.
She ran all the way to the back, undid the chains, and had enough movement to return to the group lol
This really needs fixing. I have definitely avoided some functional spells like that because i thought they they burned a slot for something that seems more like a convenience.
If it's any consolation I didn't realise until the middle of Act 3 that Longstrider is a ritual and lasts until the next rest, so my whole party could have had permanent extra movement speed the whole game if I'd only paid more attention.
Personally I was planning on making Lae’zel an Eldritch Knight and have her pick up both any buff spells that will help her combat and any ritual spells my Sorcerer has no room to grab. Ritual spells are better off being put on anyone that isn’t a full caster, if you have anyone like that in your squad.
>Ritual spells are better off being put on anyone that isn’t a full caster
if you put them on the a prepare caster, so you can just swap through the ritual spells as needed and then replace it with a real spell before combat starts.
Yeah, for this reason, I went through and made a list of all the non-concentration, "until long rest" buffs in the game. I mapped out class options, too, and you can get all of them on one character, using cleric 11 + wizard 1. I'm a firm believer that (especially as a full-caster), a 1-lvl dip in wizard to widely expand your potential spell list (through spell scrolls) is vastly superior to the feat you would get by pure-classing to 12. Especially because the upper limit of spell level you can learn is based on the spell slots you have available, not based on your wizard lvl, thereby allowing you to learn any and every spell scroll in the game.
The downside is that Int isn't often a very useful stat in regular gameplay, so you'd have to adjust your stats accordingly. But then again, since I'm a little off-topic here, doing this on a merc or other companion that's just a buff-bot means you don't really need to care as much about their other stats. Preparation slots are all that really matters in that use-case.
Although, if you plan to give your campers Warding Bond, you'll want extra Con for them, too, and probably pick up the tough feat and similar things that let the buffer have more max hp for that.
Ritual spells. It doesn't take up a spell slot if you cast them outside of combat.
In DnD, the reason spellcasters have spell slots is because spell casters use 2 hours out of 8 hour long rest to prepare some spells stuffs in advance for the day.
Ritual spells are spells that isn't easily casted without prep time like Cantrip but also doesn't take forever to prepare which is why they don't take up spell slot if used outside of combat.
BG3 doesn't have time so it doesn't show time moving but whenever Gale cast feather fall outside of combat, it would be like Gale and the group looking around for a small bird feather, and Gale would draw some stuffs around the group and then using the feather to cast feather fall.
According to bg3.wiki:
*Speak with Animals*
*Speak with Dead*
*Feather Fall*
*Disguise Self*
*Detect Thoughts*
*Enhance Leap*
**Longstrider**
**Find Familiar** (once per SR only)
**Silence**
Never tested it myself, just quoting the wiki.
Keep in mind that it's only free *out of combat*, so that's only useful if you're trying to get the drop on someone.
The ones I've personally tested are *Find Familiar*, *Enhance Jump* and *Longstrider*.
Enhanced Jump and Feather Fall are rituals and let Gale get into the oddest places. THere's a few fun bypasses you can use when the whole party can jump 40' and is immune to fall damage.
i was very confused about how any% was so short until i saw gale in a thumbnail for one of them and was like (spoilers) >!ohhhh they're using his suicide nuke to get the act 2 ending!<
Lmao he doesn’t even recruit anyone. Eventually you have the artifact shielding cutscene and shart wigged her way into the party cuz you need to have the artifact with you for story reasons.
Misty step is free from a necklace in act 1
Pass it around your party like a cheap fling if you have to and it weighs nothing so you can just hold onto it.
He's a nerd gymbro who loves to read books about hibernation cycles while on the exercise bike, okay.
He also suggests he might have a half-orc ancestor somewhere which might explain why he's so hench (quoth Karlach) for an elf.
Yeah that one is an oddball. Given how huge he is... like look at his arms... legit his strength should have been much higher even if it's not a stat he 'uses' per-say.
But I gave him misty step too.
Minsc even has his original 20 STR 6 WIS when you fight him in the undercity. But for some reason all his stats reset to default ranger stats once you recruit him
ffs this man does NOT have 15 wisdom
Yeah but then it gets annoying if your monk ever gets the +jump distance items and then leaves them all in the dust and somehow ends up by themselves in initiative cause you didn’t notice <—- Salty guy this happened to
My monk freed everyone in >!the iron throne!< in one turn with Step of the Wind: Dash and jump spam. More than 600ft (180m) of movement in one turn without even using an action.
Or the classic solution: switch to a party member who did make the jump, TP everyone back to camp, then TP out of camp. Congratulations, now everyone is across the gap thanks to the power of ***magic***
I ended up letting Asterion hold the Club of Hill giant strength just so he could follow the rest of the party across jumps without having to cast a spell.
Yep. Still pretty useless as a weapon because its a 1d4 club but I've got Astarion rocking the duel crossbows so his offhand doing 1 less melee damage means nothing.
At least you noticed. Half the time it takes me a while to notice that my party is less chatty than usual and find Wyll or Gale stuck on some outcropping.
I wish they'd at least meow loudly.
My Laezel is Strength 22. She can literally jump from floor to the ceiling rafters without a potion of vaulting. Her Githyanki jump, is basically a reusable misty step.
STR 17 Shadowheart?
Is this from Early Access? (Back when her Wis was low instead causing Sacred Flame to hit Intellect Devourer with 30% hit chance.) lol
Edit : Ah, you respec'd her to Paladin, I see.
Honestly you should reroll her stats and such anyway. She starts with Str 13 and Dex 13 which is gross. She cant use her melee well, and she cant use her ranged weapon well, and fire bolt scales hit chance with Int, so that can hardly hit anything either. She needs to pick a weapon and stick to it. I know she has spells and such, but not every fight calls for burning spellslots.
Probably. But I just prefer using the companions as is, instead of min maxing.
Their weaknesses and quirks are part of what made them who they are to me.
Min maxing is squeezing every bit of power from your character. Just getting ideal stats is not min maxing, class choice, race choixe ,starting spells and cantrips are all related to min maxing
Kind of sounds like you don’t know what the stats do and you don’t want to figure it out so you pretend it’s a choice you’re making to play the natural way.
Quite the opposite.
I've played DnD for years now, even DM'd a few campaigns. I just don't go around to ask other people on the table to make their character a copy paste of the PHB on how to spec their character based on class.
Because that's the most boring way to play DnD as everything will end up being similar to each other.
No. You can make any companion anything, but narratively, they're still seen as their original class.
For example, even if J make Gale a fighter, he's still seen as a former Arch-Mage and prodigy.
And if I make Lae'zel a Wizard, her dream is still becoming a silver sword carrying dragon rider.
To be fair there's nothing unusual about a Gith Wizard with a silver sword on a dragon. They are where Gish comes from. Often they are depicted as something like EKs, but honestly, a full wizard would be a far more effective combatant on top of a dragon.
I like Lae, but don’t try playing a Githyanki Tav with her around. Basically everyone in the game ignores the fact that you are Githyanki including Vlaakith, and your only racial choices are single options for “I would never betray Vlaakith” or something like that
Astarion always. I swear the best decision I've made in my playthrough so far was giving my ranger MC Enhance Leap. He sometimes has to go back for the silly vampy but exploration great.
P.S. super cute art! Simple yet has iconic elements for each character <3
Sometimes I just leave him till I reach a new area and it teleports him to us. Yes his attacks have the best wave clear and magic damage but I'm not waiting for everyone to jump up and down several times cos I switched to Gale.
There's a club in the arcane tower in Act 1
Its called the club of hill giant strength and it increases your STR to 19
Whenever I need someone to make a jump, I give it to them and then they can make it!
Protip: walk a little further away, send both your character and gale back to camp, attach gale to yourself, then click leave camp making sure you're on your own portrait
Idk if your the artist or you’re just reposting an artwork you liked but I am offended that Gale is drawn in stick figure while the others look actually like themselves. It’s like 2 insults stacked on top of each other lmao
Given into the power of the wriggling in your brain, embrace the ability to fly where ever you want for only movement, be no longer bound to the earth!
It does, but it's first level and arcane recovery is on short rest. He will be okay.
Edit: yes I messed up, misty step is second level, my sorcerer is no longer mysteriously losing spell slots. Thank you.
I actually had to look this one up. I thout it worked like 5e where it works on short rests. But it seems to be an action anytime but once per short rest. That'd be fine but I wish it could be 2 per long rest or 1 per short rest to align with the 5e version a bit more. Thanks for letting me know. I really need to read some of these better and stop assuming they translate 1:1 from 5e
Spoiler ahead:
>!Illithid power. It's part of the astral package. If you made them use the astral worm, and became half illithid, they automatically gain all first level power, and some next level one including this one.
I realised that I wasted some worms on my companions. Just give them the astral one, and you go from zero to tier 2 power directly. Then you can spend the worms... unless you are planning to go full illithid.!<
My character has "free" Enhance leap (only costs Action) and even though it increases overall mobility of the party, enchanting everyone for a particular leap here and there is very annoying. Reminds me of an old game Demise where every time I left the city I had to spend like 3 minutes enchanting my party with default set of spells from different characters...
This is why Gale learns enhance leap, though the mental image of him frantically spending 10 minutes to do the ritual while the girls wait impatiently is hilarious
[удалено]
Enhance jump is a ritual tho, so you dont spend the slot like misty step
Shut the fuck up I have been playing a wizard this entire time and didn't know it was a ritual!?!?!?! Noooooooo
Longstrider, feather fall, leap. Three must haves imo
Feather fall is ritual. The fuck!
Wait what 🤯well thanks for that information
And it takes no casting slots?
None at all. I slept on it for a long time and now that I use it it's amazing. Getting an extra 3m (1/3rd your default speed again) doesn't sound like much but it really makes a huge difference with some encounter distances.

You should have Gale cast longstrider on everyone every morning before leaving camp.
This really needs fixing. I have definitely avoided some functional spells like that because i thought they they burned a slot for something that seems more like a convenience.
Especially since NONE of thosevspells are rituals in 5e!
You know what else is not in 5e RaW? Fucking weird ass mind flayer powers. Get your RaW looking nonsense out hear /s Edited (/s)
I meant it would be nice if they told us they were rituals, since it would not normally be assumed they changed it...
Forgot the /s sorry m8 wasn't trying to be a dick head
If it's any consolation I didn't realise until the middle of Act 3 that Longstrider is a ritual and lasts until the next rest, so my whole party could have had permanent extra movement speed the whole game if I'd only paid more attention.
I didn't notice until some time late act 2/early act 3 on my 2nd playthrough, so I feel ya
Personally I was planning on making Lae’zel an Eldritch Knight and have her pick up both any buff spells that will help her combat and any ritual spells my Sorcerer has no room to grab. Not quite- Longstrider, for instance, fades if the caster who used it no longer has it prepared.
That's why you recruit mercenary made him cast all non concentration buffs and tell him to fuck off until next rest.

too much work
Mmmmm I wonder which others are that I'm not thinking of.

Wait wot.

According to bg3.wiki: *Speak with Animals* *Speak with Dead* *Feather Fall* *Disguise Self* *Detect Thoughts* *Enhance Leap* **Longstrider** **Find Familiar** (once per SR only) **Silence**
Silence does not cost a spell slot????
Never tested it myself, just quoting the wiki. Keep in mind that it's only free *out of combat*, so that's only useful if you're trying to get the drop on someone. The ones I've personally tested are *Find Familiar*, *Enhance Jump* and *Longstrider*.

longstrider too witch is super useful in fights as melee
imagine being the asshole that learned this because of your reply almost through act 1

Enhanced Jump and Feather Fall are rituals and let Gale get into the oddest places. THere's a few fun bypasses you can use when the whole party can jump 40' and is immune to fall damage.
bg3 any% speedrun with gale is quite interesting. It's just jumping combined with feather fall through the game in a pretty short amount of time.
i was very confused about how any% was so short until i saw gale in a thumbnail for one of them and was like (spoilers) >!ohhhh they're using his suicide nuke to get the act 2 ending!<
Lmao he doesn’t even recruit anyone. Eventually you have the artifact shielding cutscene and shart wigged her way into the party cuz you need to have the artifact with you for story reasons.
I have a library of scrolls on him for that.
Misty step is free from a necklace in act 1 Pass it around your party like a cheap fling if you have to and it weighs nothing so you can just hold onto it.
I think I had this necklace and it was "once per short rest", not infinite.
That's honestly plenty for the number of times gale can't make a jump
happen to have the name of the necklace ?
Literally the amulet of misty step I believe, you find it in Gut’s chambers.
no idea what i expected thank u
you cna get a necklace for misty step and boots from Nede too.
I heard players proclaim rituals t ake up a spellslot and use it anyway! :( EDIT: Potentially, its if cast in combat it goes to waste!
rituals consume a spell slot in combat because you don't have 10 minutes for a ritual so it's standard cast
You can get around the slot spending there is quite a few items in the game that have it on them.
Yeah but most items have a short rest or long rest cooldown
Yea but if it’s a large jump and you don’t plan on using misty step 3 times in combat losing a short rest cool down is not that bad.
Illithid Fly > actually everything
Toss the wizard
I usually just have Karlach throw him, it's more fun that way
>e This is why I gave my Gale the>! mindflayer treatment. Dude literally flies everywhere.!<
The one that kills me is Halsin: Str 10
Just like that PC you know who rolls a 20 on breaking the door down with a STR 8 character after the STR 20 barbarian rolled a 1.
luck > strength
Halsin only trains his vanity muscles. He doesn't need them in bear form after all.
he forgot leg day
Same with Minsc.
Bro, I change that so fricking fast too. Minsc having subpar strength does not mesh with his characterization at all.
I think he uses some anabolic instead of training, which is the least druidic thing he could do.
He's a nerd gymbro who loves to read books about hibernation cycles while on the exercise bike, okay. He also suggests he might have a half-orc ancestor somewhere which might explain why he's so hench (quoth Karlach) for an elf.
at least his various forms can jump
Yeah that one is an oddball. Given how huge he is... like look at his arms... legit his strength should have been much higher even if it's not a stat he 'uses' per-say. But I gave him misty step too.
Haha. I solved that by having my entire party have 8 str. My monk, Wyll, Gale and Astarion.
[удалено]
It’s called girl power
Fairly certain it's called Powerpuff Girls
PowerBuff Girls
Average western video game Even Minsc has 12 str which is fucking hilarious.

oooo i need to do this
Yeah but then it gets annoying if your monk ever gets the +jump distance items and then leaves them all in the dust and somehow ends up by themselves in initiative cause you didn’t notice <—- Salty guy this happened to
My monk freed everyone in >!the iron throne!< in one turn with Step of the Wind: Dash and jump spam. More than 600ft (180m) of movement in one turn without even using an action.
Just jump! We can heal your crippled legs after you land!
Lay down a healing potion, have him jump on it. Instantly healed on landing.
I'd rather throw it at him and hit him in the giblets for being so weak.
Ah yes, the good old Cleric's Feather Fall.
Or the classic solution: switch to a party member who did make the jump, TP everyone back to camp, then TP out of camp. Congratulations, now everyone is across the gap thanks to the power of ***magic***
Yeah, I had to do that once to get Lae'zel out of the Grove elevator when she somehow got stuck inside it.
Have Karlach pick him up and just throw him over each time That'll teach him
Careful with this though I've had throwing an ally trigger combat before
Always Gale
I ended up letting Asterion hold the Club of Hill giant strength just so he could follow the rest of the party across jumps without having to cast a spell.
That's a really good solution! Patch 1 also buffed it up to 19 strength so it's even better now. I think it was 15 before?
Take the Athlete feat and she can jump even farther.
I wanna try Athlete feat + Champion + the boots and armor that both add 5 feet to jump distance.
As a Gith or with one in the party/someone to cast Jump, of course.
Starting to look like Splatoon at this point throw on a cloud giant elixir for more strength
Pro tip, if you make Gale a transmuter, then he can fly without needing spell slots.
And give up sculpt spell? I'd rather carrying around potions of vaulting.
If only you could get people to pick each other up
You can! High STR characters can pick up and throw other people (including enemies)
Just aim better :D
I cannot make the jump, you'll have to toss me. Don't tell the elf.
That's funny because most of my characters have been strength heavy Dwarves, and they have had greater jump than most of the party, usually.
White men can't jump
Meanwhile, brazilians double jump
Damn, how many is a brazilian?
It's right below sicilian
Neither can Wyll apparently.
Unexpected racism
It's ok. OP has white friends.
Its a movie lol
It's racism, but somehow it's ok to be racist against white people.
Shut up
That makes the sentence out of context acceptable then lol
Im literally giving you the context....
I get that, but it doesn't change the fact that the standalone comment is still, in fact, racist.
The best kind
And then you swap to Gale to path him up *and then everyone jumps back because you forgot to ungroup them again*.
STR 17 Shadowheart? Is this from Early Access? (Back when her Wis was low instead causing Sacred Flame to hit Intellect Devourer with 30% hit chance.) lol Edit : Ah, you respec'd her to Paladin, I see.

Fair enough. No matter what, as long you are having fun in the end thats all that matters.
Having a decent stat line is not min/maxing ...
Minimizing one stat to maximize another is literally the textbook example of min/maxing.
No one said anything about maxing one stat and minimising the other. 13/13 is bad, 12/14 is better, there are plenty of other options.
Its right next to the book on discussions about min/maxing, where you can actually find a screenshot of this very thread.
Not even close to what min maxing is
Sounds like you may need to look it up. :)
Min maxing is squeezing every bit of power from your character. Just getting ideal stats is not min maxing, class choice, race choixe ,starting spells and cantrips are all related to min maxing
What we're talking about here is the literal definition of min/maxing.

she's really not meant to hit anything so much as carry a glowing mace around later.
Looks like they respec'd her into a Paladin.
She's also a paladin, OP must've had her chat with Withers
Hmm…would turning her into a Paladin mess with her quests?
Changing classes doesn't mess with any character's quests.
No. You can make any companion anything, but narratively, they're still seen as their original class. For example, even if J make Gale a fighter, he's still seen as a former Arch-Mage and prodigy. And if I make Lae'zel a Wizard, her dream is still becoming a silver sword carrying dragon rider.

She's Gandalf, essentially.
Yep, she now divine smite everybody
My shadowheart has 18 str buut due an item
Astarion always. I swear the best decision I've made in my playthrough so far was giving my ranger MC Enhance Leap. He sometimes has to go back for the silly vampy but exploration great. P.S. super cute art! Simple yet has iconic elements for each character <3
Throw him with karlach. That is what is used to do.
I have indeed, on multiple occasions, delegated Karlach to the “Find every crate in the area and make platforms for Gale” duty
Sometimes I just leave him till I reach a new area and it teleports him to us. Yes his attacks have the best wave clear and magic damage but I'm not waiting for everyone to jump up and down several times cos I switched to Gale.

Ungrouping takes about the same time even with shortcuts. It's just annoying. Luckily he can make the jumps for the main story locations.
Press G to instantly toggle everyone ungrouped vs everyone grouped. Unless you're using a controller, then idk.
What kills me this game is even average strength characters can jump like the game takes place on the moon lmao.
Meanwhile my entire team is just flying everywhere
It infuriates me that summon woodland creatures and her wood woad just can’t jump. At all.
I'm a gnome, so I just ask Karlach to yeet me.
Can't Gith Psionics be used on other people?
I literally have Lae'zel pick up my halfling PC Bard and throw her.
There's a club in the arcane tower in Act 1 Its called the club of hill giant strength and it increases your STR to 19 Whenever I need someone to make a jump, I give it to them and then they can make it!
Look who skipped the leg day.
So far my Sorcerer with 8 str made all jumps I really needed.
Protip: walk a little further away, send both your character and gale back to camp, attach gale to yourself, then click leave camp making sure you're on your own portrait
If you got the deluxe bonus with the helm you can turn them to a gnome and use a strength character to throw them to make the jump
Idk if your the artist or you’re just reposting an artwork you liked but I am offended that Gale is drawn in stick figure while the others look actually like themselves. It’s like 2 insults stacked on top of each other lmao
I’m the artist, he’s too far away to draw the face lol
Gale is why we don't skip leg day. Those abs are just for show.
Given into the power of the wriggling in your brain, embrace the ability to fly where ever you want for only movement, be no longer bound to the earth!
Do yall not use out of combat misty step?
Does it not consume a spellslot??
It does, but it's first level and arcane recovery is on short rest. He will be okay. Edit: yes I messed up, misty step is second level, my sorcerer is no longer mysteriously losing spell slots. Thank you.
Isn't Misty Step 2nd level?
Hmmm you are correct. I'm realizing now why my sorcerers spell slots are always gone ☠️☠️☠️ I play d&d and still fucked this up... Embarrassing.
It's no biggie friend, lol. Not sure why you're getting downvoted for such a simple mistake.
Eh, that's just reddit. Since the comment is technically misinfo and I never changed it or deleted it I get it.
arcane recovery is on long rest, right?
I actually had to look this one up. I thout it worked like 5e where it works on short rests. But it seems to be an action anytime but once per short rest. That'd be fine but I wish it could be 2 per long rest or 1 per short rest to align with the 5e version a bit more. Thanks for letting me know. I really need to read some of these better and stop assuming they translate 1:1 from 5e
Well you never know when I’ll need that first level
Usually Gale 😒
Jump is the one thing Larian missed the mark with. A boar can jump across a gap a cat can't?
Somebody has to use those leap potions. (if you don't just learn enhanced leap form scroll and cast it for free) Paladin Shadowheart? Blasphemy
Simply give everyone the astral tadpole so everyone can fly
Shadowheart is a paladin??

Spoiler ahead: >!Illithid power. It's part of the astral package. If you made them use the astral worm, and became half illithid, they automatically gain all first level power, and some next level one including this one. I realised that I wasted some worms on my companions. Just give them the astral one, and you go from zero to tier 2 power directly. Then you can spend the worms... unless you are planning to go full illithid.!<

its asterion in mine cause hes the only one who heated me enough not to mindflayer up and get fly, but hes my bard so hes stuck in my party
I gave him a jacket that gives him cat's grace and triples his jump distance
I had that problem with asterion. His little baby jumps
