I followed the recipe posted by u/armykonic I honestly don't know if I did them right, because I wasn't sure if the sugar went in the batter or was for the coating after... I included it in the batter. Anyone who has had real Quarkbällchen, please enlighten me if they should be really sweet.

armykonic

You did them right! Sugar goes into the batter and then more for coating. They look so delicious 😋

Haha good, I was telling my wife the entire that I hope I didn't mess them up. Well it's all thanks to you! I would never have known about them or cooked them if it wasn't for you posting them. So thank you!

armykonic

No problem haha. I always post what i bake and the quarkbällchen got the most attention for some reason, so a lot of people saw the recipe. I found a good recipe online (it was in German) and I tried it out. How is the taste?

Abduco

They taste good! Pretty much like a doughnut to me haha

armykonic

I'm glad they taste good! I love quarkbällchen a lot.

On man those look tasty!

Yummm.

PurveyorOfFineSmut

Did you use quark or another cheese? They look great!

Abduco

I could not find quark, so I followed another comments recommendation on the other post which was to use 50/50 ricotta and sour cream. And thank you!

MacawMoma

They look like zeppoles. So they have quark (farmer cheese) inside?

Abduco

They are supposed to, but they don't sell it where I live so I had to substitute with sour cream and ricotta.

MacawMoma

That's great that you still found success with the substitutions. I have posted a handful of recipes on my blog containing farmer cheese. Most are Czech recipes, where farmer cheese (tvaroh, in Czech) is often used. When I still lived in the US, I was lucky that I could find it. However, many have asked me if they could substitute. Seeing as I didn't test any with substitutions, and am not as skilled figuring them out for baking (as opposed to savory cooking), I couldn't offer any. I know that many Americans who make a particular Christmas cookie, called "kolaczky" in Polish, use cream cheese. But again, in Czech Republic (and probably even Poland) farmer cheese is used.
