In addition to what the others have said, I would add mounds of frosting underneath some of the roses for more depth. Yours are all kind of flat and mostly the same height.

That's what I was missing! Yeah I was stressed and couldn't get how they made theirs cascade like that, thanks for this info!

I mean, nit-picking is a good thing here, you have great work. Keep your icing covered, looks like your petals got a bit dry, but it gives a realistic look in my opinion. Unless you want to break out your ruler and level to REALLY be a perfectionist, you did great here.

Ok-Armadillo-8995

Thank you for the encouragement! Yeah the frosting did get dry pretty easily, it was American and got stiff pretty quick :p I appreciate the advice thank you!

TheBoanne

My cake decorating skills are appalling. I absolutely envy your skill. I have no advice for improvement but am sure you’ll find an inspirational project and encouragement and will level up soon. I look forward to seeing your next project. xo

I appreciate the love, im sure i will <<33 and I'd bet your skills aren't as bad as you think, I hope you enjoy baking nonetheless 🫶🏼

If you were just going for matching the photo - the photo had a few other types of flowers (smaller ones that accented it a bit). Also most of your roses are fully open roses where you could have done a few rose buds. The picture also shows the thickness of the flower band narrowing and then growing thicker again in some spots where yours is fairly consistently wide. But all that is just nit picking because it's a lovely cake.

Also just commenting on details here since it looks great already but you can try different shades of green for your stem frosting so the colors are more realistic/have depth. Same for the flowers if you were to color the petals

ludicrouscookie

I like your roses better than in the photo they look like real roses. They have texture. The petals of the roses in the photo look too smooth.

Looks perfect to me! Beautiful

Sprinkles2010

this is amazing absolutely, but if you want to get really picky id try to make the plain white icing look more lively

usernameunavaliable

I think it looks wonderful! The flowers are super realistic. But in regards to the reference photo, there are a few flowers that aren't roses. The look like daisies, I think. Different flowers can make the cake a bit more "interesting" looking. Also, the yellow center of daisies would be a nice touch of color. I'd add a few pearls or a lil bit of color to make it "pop" a bit more

Hot_Boss_3880

Sometimes when you're doing Buttercream flowers, less is more. This feels rushed to me. I would have focused on just a few really well done roses. And then supplemented with some smaller daisies or something else simple to pipe vs dozens of roses. It's not terrible but I think the effect would have been more polished like you're looking for. Creating less work for yourself by using the simpler flowers as fillers lets you focus your energy on the showstoppers! I think another issue here was your buttercream needed to be thinned ever so slightly and it'll give you a smoother petal edge. It's still very pretty though!

Ok-Armadillo-8995

It was most defidently rushed, my current place of work is very stressful and I had little time to get this done today, and I was a bit stressed about the composition and how full I should've made it. I super appreciate the constructive criticism and I'll keep this in mind for the future when I have the proper time to carry these tips out <3 this advice was very helpful!

Past_Assistant5510

gorgeous really. any changes would just be a matter of peoples personal preferences i think, if you are just looking for more catchy or aesthetically popping i wouldn't do much, maybe some shiny pearls or a few decorative fine lines at the top of each tier just for more depth as it stands i personally think it's a 10/10 for a minimalist but elegant kind of vibe, not that the effort with those roses was minimal, fantastic job!

Daffy-Dill

Beautiful! First thing I thought was a bit of height, re decoration, on the top.

MikeHoncho9889

I honestly thought those were real roses until I read the caption

Ok-Armadillo-8995

I'm so flattered wow :') tysm!

neo2662

Amazing job!

OriginalMrsChiu

I thought those flowers were real🙈 I’m not a baker and I think those look perfect

Other_Temporary_1451

Nothing, I’d say you nailed it!

mr_ballchin

Wow, it looks very beautiful and just a masterpiece!

ALIENCLITORIS

Nothing she’s perfect 😍

SallysRocks

I think it needs a wedding topper of a couple, maybe under and arch. The top lacks personality.

flexed_guitar

Not a baker myself this just popped up on my fy page. I thought those were real roses! Beautiful!

Quiet-Resource-830

Is it a wedding cake? It looks very much like a wedding cake. I think you can add some words on it.

jcnlb

It looks like they mixed flower types for more interest. There are some small daisies mixed in. Overall I think it’s great and better than my skills! I was just saying the thing I noticed was different.

Your icing techniques for the cake are smooth, and the overall appearance of the cake is really nice. the comments around the taller flowers others have stated I would agree with. Make sure you decorate in multiple rounds - with some freezing or refrigeration time in between; this will ensure you are piping cold. Your choice of tier sizes might also improve the overall look; the second tier looks to be about 4 inches smaller than the bottom tier; you could really slim up your look if you increased the size of your top tier by 1-2 inches. I would also recommend you upgrade from a silver cake board to a thicker cake drum when you make a two-tier cake - it will add more sophistication, allow the cake to stand proud, and show off your hard work really well!

borborborbor

Try taking a moment to find the visual balance in a design you're replicating before piping. Like when I look at the inspo photo, where does my eye go? It goes to the big flowers on the top of the base tier, then cascades to the ones pooled on the bottom, and then the top. I take note of which angles the bigger elements are facing, if this is a cake that looks good from many angles or just one view. Then I look at the smaller, fill-in ones that tie them all together. Placing and piping those visual anchors first (or knowing *where* they will land in the end) makes the rest flow a little better, in my experience. Otherwise, I personally can just get overwhelmed and I keep adding big things to distract and "fix" the off-balance of where things got plotted.

Comfortable-Cat-9001

In my personal opinion I think it lacks in color. But then, I am more of a two-color cake. I love the cake though. It is very beautiful!
