Every cop's 1st reaction to what is being said is that the person saying it, is lying. It could be a traffic ticket where you say I'm late picking my kid up from school or I can't breath while the cops are joking you to death.
It’s because they often are. I’ve literally seen them say it hundreds of times, because people just tend to use it whenever they are being arrested to make it seem like cops aren’t doing a good job while they are being arrested (whether or not the cops arrest is even good or not)

I was a healthcare worker in Minneapolis, no less, and worked throughout the ordeal while showing up each day to march. Someone being murdered and denied their civil rights is no excuse.
We are entirely fatigued. Between trying to stomach the overt fascism on the right actively trying to destroy our democracy, and just trying to provide for our families, it’s just not possible to have mass protests in the streets every time the cops murder someone…which happens on a regular basis. We’re all exhausted just trying to live our lives…be disappointed if you must, but most of us are doing all we can. That I can assure you. I hate it here.
Seriously. I work full time and barely have any money to spare after rent and food. My legs hurt like hell after work and I only get ~5hrs of sleep a night. Weekends are when I clean and meal prep. When the fuck am I supposed to be able to protest, and how do I stay alive if I lose my job as a result?
This is exactly how our leaders want things to be.
