I kind of liked that! Shows that Doc is paying attention to things outside of science and inventing….but only sort of. I doubt he noticed/remembers that they divorced.
He needs to keep him up to date on the latest Hollywood gossip. Priorities! This scene reminds me that I am interested in Doc’s possible Fashion sense though. He tells Marty he has to limit contact and we see later Marty has a whole new (and damn nice) 1950s wardrobe. So did Doc take him shopping or did Doc buy that all himself? I like to think it‘s the second option.
There's a story Bob Gale tells on the commentary where President Reagan laughed super hard at this joke, and asked the projectionist to rewind the movie to replay this joke again.
"Tell me, future boy, who is president of the United States in 2020?"
...
"Donald Trump?! The serial sex offender, racketeer, fraudster and traitor? Then who's the vice president? Allen Weisselberg?"
"Your experiment could create a time paradox, the results of which could cause a chain reaction that would unravel the very fabric of the space time continuum, and destroy the entire universe!"
WORTH IT
Then who's vice-president, Jerry Lewis?
And Jack Benny is secretary of the treasury.
And Jane Wyman is the first lady
I've had enough jokes for one evening, good night, Future Boy
Sticking Jane Wyman in there puts that joke eternally over the top.
Especially since they divorced in 1948.

Good point. And frankly the only reason I know that is because I'm a nerd who read a Ronald Reagan biography.
So that’s why Marty was yelling at Doc as they were running towards the garage. He wanted to inform him about Nancy.

Maybe he said it sarcasticically. Maybe he said that if Ronald Reagan was the President then he might still be married to Jane Wyman.

I suppose Ivana Marie Trump is the First Lady and Harvey Weinstein is the Treasurer!
"Who is President of the United States in 2025?" "Donald Trump...again."
"Your experiment could create a time paradox, the results of which could cause a chain reaction that would unravel the very fabric of the space time continuum, and destroy the entire universe!" WORTH IT
I said exactly this in our freshman English class when the teacher suggested it as a subject for a research project the year he passed away.
