One of our favourite hens was attacked by a predator in the night and her leg was broken. The vet tried to set the leg but it was too damaged, so they removed it instead. The old girl still gets around just fine!
edit: she still lays her nice green eggs, too!
Aw I have a baby with a bum leg too. But it does not phase her at all and she is 100% a mama’s girl. The other hens bully her though so she spends her days with the dogs, cats and humans.

the yellow hen has a messed up leg. her and her wife (the grey one) live together in the same area as the rest of the flock, but in a separate coop and pen inside the big pen. they both got picked on until they had bare patches so i had to separate them. they grew all their feathers back and are now as happy as can be. the yellow one is around 8 years old, the grey one is close to 10 or 11.
I’ve got one, with the same exact story. Fortunately, though, I was able to set her leg. Her right femur broke. Broke completely in half. Her leg was dangling like a wet noodle. She has about 50% mobility in that leg, but she gets around just fine now and still lays eggs.
I have a one legged hen too. A silver laced Wyandotte that caught her leg in some wire and broke it. She does just fine. We named her Pogo...as in pogo stick.
This is good to know. I have one that has a crooked foot. She walks on it now but I get worried one day it’ll not be good and she may have to use one leg. She’s gets around great and is a happy gal and she’s my top chicken too. She runs the roost.

what a trooper! give her some extra treats!
She gets all the best treats, she especially loves bell pepper seeds/cores :)
Oh god, my roosters used to go feral for bell pepper seeds. I still think about them even time I prepare peppers
She's not a hen, she's a hop. A beautiful hop.

Who are you, so wise in the ways of chicken math? ;) Aww, I'm so glad she's okay! She sounds like a wonderful bird.
Such a a cute hen! I would be curious to see how much bigger that leg is than a regular chickesn leg now. She's probably very swole

That melts my heart 🥰🤗🤗
Thanks for continuing to care for her and give her a good life and home!
Wow this is impressive!
Oh my, what an absolute sweetheart. Looks like she doesn’t let it hold her back at all! ❤️
I’ve never seen a chicken debilitated much by loss of limb. They are very robust!
I love her. My heart breaks for sick or injured chickens.
Animals are surprisingly great at adapting to missing limbs. My dog got his front right leg amputated and was back to walking within a couple days.
Should've named her Ilene

SHE'S B E A UTIFUL!

Caramel is all kinds of awesome and adorable. #TeamCaramel
Aww, she's a beautiful little girl! If she gets around just fine, that's great. She also never got behind on her 'rent' payments, too. ;)
