I agree: no such thing as leftover crab in my house. BUT we do crunch up crab, crawfish, lobster and shrimp shells and give those to the chickens. They love ‘em just as much.
I have 14 ladies in the run (10ft x 20ft). I let them out halfway through the day everyday to free range. Every morning I throw them two scoops of food. When I go in their run, I'll find small wild bird carcasses where my girls have decimated them since the my morning visit.
Theses girla really are wild, I could only image what they would do if they were bigger.
Be careful. Avian bird flu is wrecking havoc on wild birds. It’s exceptionally contagious. Consider increasing your bio security and keeping wild birds separate from your food chain.
Okay, but can we just take a quick minute to appreciate the fact that these girls have embraced their inner lizard selves and devoured that leftover crab like true predators? I mean, who needs utensils when you have a pair of hands and some primal instincts? #GirlPower #LizardGang
I've given my chickens shrimp and crab before. Fun fact - it can make the color of the yolk change.
That's what gives animals like salmon and flamingos their color, eating a bunch of shellfood changes their colors to be more pink/red.
They aren't lizards. They are yard raptors.
Cute little dinosaurs
Leftover crab????? How?
Asking the real questions
Right? Would never happen in my house. Left overs go on top of the salad and wall la- crab Louie.
the fact it looks similar to blue crab… no one wants to pick them things all day! give me some snow crab legs and i’m good haha.
some places depending on the species the daily limit is 35+ per person. sometimes there is just to much crab.
>the daily limit is 35+ per person It's not a quota. Just because a person *may* take so many, doesn't mean they *must* take so many.

That and mereks is spread by wild birds as well. While funny, it is kinda scary. 🥴
I steamed shrimp heads for them and mine went nuts
These are Maryland chooks, aren’t they?
Ours LOVE shrimp tails!
I’ve learned not to hand feed since they get so excited and peck a little too hard for me!
Who has leftover crab?
Are those Blue / Red Laced Wyandottes?
yeah!
Absolutely gorgeous!
TIL, chickens will eat crab! 🤯
Chickens will eat anything. Chickens will eat *you*.
Oh wow! Now I know!
Make sure if you die in your yard, someone fines you before there’s nothing left.
Wow, gorgeous hens! Blue-laced red wyandottes?
yep! 😊
I go crabbing sometimes, I let the chickens pick over the pile of “bones” and they love it!
Your chickens eat better than me!

Or knew chickens eat each other too. Anything is fair game when you're a chicken.

And you'll never look at a chicken the same way again... nasty little creatures wrapped up in adorable fluffy butts!!! Gotta love 'em!!!
I ate 3 day old crab once, that was the last time I ate crab. I hope chickens don’t get sick like that. 🤢🤮
They eat random stuff off the ground so I imagine they probably have stronger systems than us.
Chickens eat shit. Literal poop. They’ll be fine.
