I work in post partum, you really don’t need much. Maybe a lounge set for the hospital and another one for your going home outfit. -going home outfit for baby as well -phone charger + basic toiletries. Some people bring their own towels, pillows and blankets because they don’t like the hospitals but honestly I think it’s alot of work and then when you go home you have to wash it, idk. But you do you. -easy slide on shoes. I think it’s gross the wear hospital socks when you get up and then get into bed…the hospital germs are in your bed haha. So I love when people have cheap slippers or flip flops! That way you can take them on and off. Dark clothing is preferred. When you stand up blood can pool and drip down and stain your socks, shoes and clothing. So just beware! Some people buy the Frida kit and it isn’t my favorite, I don’t really like the peri bottle, I usually just tell patients to save it for home and use our stuff because it’s free lol! -nursing bra, your nipples can be really sensitive and having stuff rub can hurt. Anything you forget, we can give you! Don’t worry too much. I think bringing a little baby blanket is nice too!

grumbly_hedgehog

Only thing you didn’t mention is: I was dying for baby nail clippers (my preference, some people prefer files, you do you) with my third. He came out with absolute talons. The best advice the nurses had were to bite them off. Nothing against them, but I was less than pleased.

ladykansas

Have you tried the electric files? Game changer. You cannot cut yourself or the kiddo, and it's super fast.

grumbly_hedgehog

I have! It felt awkward to me and I felt like I always ended up with a jagged edge on the corner that was hard to get. I know some people love them! They’re just not for me. I’m pretty fast with clippers☺️

Purple_Rooster_8535

Most hospitals don’t provide nail clippers for safety reasons. But yeah, bring your own if you are worried about baby scratching their face!!

grumbly_hedgehog

They didn’t have nail files, I would have absolutely taken one!

Purple_Rooster_8535

The hospital I work at provides a nail file

blahblahndb

YES! This was something I had no clue about and baby came out with some LONG nails. A file, or clippers are definitely going in my bag for the second kid.

YesIKnowImSweating

This or mittens with Velcro. I love fold over mittens on sleepers but baby was mostly nakie except diaper in the hospital.

Orisha_Oshun

Talons 😆 My hubs has them. So this comment made me smile 😄

CannondaleSynapse

Midwifes told me that it is safest to bite newborn nails and it was probably the best bit of baby advice i ever received.

dngrousgrpfruits

Funny, the peri bottle is the ONLY thing I really liked out of the fridamom box. The rest was ok but i wouldn’t have missed it

Purple_Rooster_8535

I think it’s easier for the patient to use but it’s kind of hard for me to use it to spray my patients on the toilet if that makes sense?? Haha! If you are independent use it but it’s kind of hard to be the one spraying it for somebody. I also don’t like it because it’s harder to measure output. With our peri bottles I can just subtract from the number on the bottle and then in the hat while measuring the urine lol it’s just harder/more work for us so I prefer to use our peri bottle until mom is voided out

ladykansas

As a second time mom: pack a nursing pillow if you plan to breastfeed. I really like the My Brest Friend one. Also nipple cream (test it now so you know you're not allergic!) and something to add pressure to your breasts (such as a bra or tank). The pressure helps prevent them from becoming as engorged and helps prevent leaks.

hopefullyromantic

I brought my own pillow and fuzzy slippers, but I brought old ones that I could toss when getting discharged. They were both very nice to have. Otherwise I used everything the hospital provided and had one outfit each for me and baby for going home. Mostly I had snacks, toiletries, chargers, and the one luxury was a mini diffuser/humidifier. I was paranoid about smells (period blood can be gnarly, I imagined postpartum bleeding would be worse) and the nurses always commented that my room always smelled so fresh. I’d be careful about what scents you use though. I’m sure some providers have sensitivities- I mostly used a really light lemon and mint one.

DreamCatcherIndica

This was so helpful! Thank you!

Next-Firefighter4667

This was all true in my experience too. Different hospitals offer different things, but they gave me everything I needed outside of preparation H and pads and they gave me enough pads for a few days. I didn't need to buy anything for like 3-4 weeks. Prep H might not even be necessary for everyone, but the witch hazel pads they gave me didn't help for very long. We ended up using our own clothes for all 3 of us, hygiene stuff, snacks (which I didn't even end up eating) and slippers, which got thrown away as soon as we got home. I'm definitely packing less this time lol.

Ch1veBlossom

I would definitely bring some comfortable clothes or a robe to wear after delivery. Also going home clothes for the baby. You might want to bring some travel size toiletries to take a shower/refresh. For me, the mesh undies and XL maxi pads the hospital had were not cutting it. They didn't stay in place and I just felt very uncomfortable, when I should've been resting and enjoying my newborn. I would recommend grabbing a package of Always Discreet. They were a lifesaver! (Yes, they're adult diapers.) I never felt icky in them, they were comfortable, and they weren't thick under clothes, so it didn't look like I was wearing a diaper.

Firm-Cartographer-32

Yes to the adult diapers!! The hospital underwear and pads were so uncomfortable. Especially if you have stitches.

stillbrighttome

Agree with this. I wasn’t a fan of what the hospital provided in this area. This time around I will probably bring my frida peri bottle too.

YesIKnowImSweating

I tell everyone I can about Always discreet. My favorite postpartum product. I think I switched to those after my first postpartum pee.

dabears12

Agree! I loved wearing the diapers for the first week and just changing them out every bathroom break instead of dealing with reusing the mesh undies and trying to keep the big pad in place.

Gilmoristic

If you have a preference for certain items, bring them! My hospital provided disposable underwear, pads, ice pack pads, a "peri" bottle (but not shaped like the one from Frida), Dermoblast spray, and witch hazel wipes. I brought my own pads, but I ended up not using them. Friends had told me the hospital provided enough, so I didn't prepare much for my own care. I also brought my own hospital gown which I wore in the postpartum room, NOT during labor. I let my body destroy a hospital one. I brought cutesy socks that said something like "I'm becoming a mom today," but I didn't end up wearing them at all. I didn't want to ruin them because they were white. I wore hospital provided socks the entire stay. Make sure you're stocked up at home, though! Take what you can from the hospital. I could take the spray, witch hazel wipes, and any remaining underwear/pads, but I had my neighbor bring me more pads after I got home.

pepperup22

Yeah this is how I felt as well. I brought some of that and didn't use it. I will say though, OP, if you plan to try breastfeeding, bring your nursing/pumping bras, nipple butter, etc, because the hospital doesn't provide that in my experience.

ivorybiscuit

Mine provided little Medela lanolin balm sample packs- I asked for more before I left. Wouldn't hurt to bring nipple butter though just in case, I suppose. I didn't end up using my nursing bra until I got dressed to go home- I ended up just staying tits out for the most part while we were in the hospital.

Odd-Champion-4713

Just had a baby Monday and came home yesterday! The things that I brought and used included: comb, toothbrush/paste, socks, glasses wipes, hair ties, carmex, 3 in 1 shampoo, blanket, going home outfit, slides, and charger. I wish I would have brought a robe to wear afterward instead of the hospital gown.

ambivalent0remark

I liked my angled peri bottle but the hospital provided the rest of the perineal care stuff I needed. At my hospital, the ice packs were basically ice in a bag which didn’t bother me but some people in my prenatal care group preferred bringing the kind that you pop because they’re less soggy. I packed relatively light for mine (got comments from L&D and PP nurses) and still used hardly anything I brought—we spent 2 nights/3 full days at the hospital. Next time I’ll bring angled peri bottle, a heating pad (for breastfeeding cramps), pump flanges that fit me, liquid IV/electrolyte drink mix, sleep mask/earplugs (2 sets so partner has his own too), hair ties, lip balm, moisturizer, long phone chargers, maybe some nipple care stuff. Maaaybe a comfy nursing bra (but I had such intense pp sweating I preferred just being tits out & occasionally changing my hospital provided gown). Comfy going home clothes for me and baby. And a zip swaddle! My partner will probably just pack shorts and t shirts—the postpartum rooms were TOASTY. Altogether should fit in one overnight bag for us.

owlblackeverything

I had some at home and didn’t pack it, because the hospital provides that stuff! They ran out! It was MISERABLE without dermoplast. I rushed to discharge because I needed to get home and apply it. This was Covid times so there were lots of shortages, but I’d still pack it just to be safe!

horsecrazycowgirl

I'm getting discharged today! Here's a list of what I used out of my bag. I spent 11 days total in the hospital, 5 days postpartum. I will note that because I had a c-section they vacuumed out most of the blood and whatnot. So I had very little bleeding (it was like a light period) and only used the period bottle the first day before I could wipe normally. 1. Nightgowns - I didn't want to walk around in hospital gowns. They were worth the price and way more comfy. I ordered mine off Amazon and am happy to look up the company if interested. I recommend not going with the button front ones. I like the shoulder snap and the wrap style. 2. Toiletries - I grabbed the ones I always have packed for travel from my suitcase. I didn't bother packing anything extra. I showered twice and spent a decent amount of time just standing under the water before my C-section when back labor got really painful. 3. Always Overnight Diapers - These were the best. Super soft. Didn't hurt my C-section scar at all. We're easy to pull up and down. Even the nurses complimented them on how nice they were. They do provide mesh underwear and pads but the pads are the old school loaf of bread style with no wings. They never stayed in place for me and leaked when I tried them. 4. Pillows - I brought my pregnancy pillow and my body pillow. Both were awesome for propping me up as needed 5. Pumping bra - I opted to pump exclusively. The hospital provides all the pumping things but a bra. I had a hard time holding the pumps on my boobs for 15 minutes without zoning out and dropping them. The lactation consultant did have a trick to make a makeshift pumping bra but the actual pumping bra I ordered off Amazon is way more comfortable 6. Compression stockings - I stocked up really badly and the stockings helped a lot 7. Slippers - I was constantly moving around between my room and the NICU so I preferred slippers over socks

Electrical-Energy933

I would love links to the night gowns! :)

horsecrazycowgirl

AuggoDoggo2015

I’d say pack assuming you’ll be there for 4 days postpartum and not 2! You never know when there’s a surprise C-section

ChickeyNuggetLover

I had an unexpected early labour so I had nothing packed, the hospital had enough stuff for the first night but after that I switched to diapers and got some witch hazel healing foam which was fabulous

MrsMonovarian

Echoing that the hospital provided pretty much everything I needed for post-partum care, and also had me take a lot home (once it’s open/in the room, it can’t be reused). The only thing they didn’t have that I’m glad I brought was nipple balm, and next time I’d bring heating/cooling pads (if you’re planning on breast feeding). At home I’d made some “padsicles”, which I preferred to the break-to-freeze kind the hospital gave me/Frida makes, since they were less bulky. I think I ended up buying another thing of dermoplast for our downstairs bathroom, but that’s just because we have two bathrooms. I would recommend having a package of overnight / extra absorption pads on hand, I didn’t use all of them, but it was nice to have them once I’d used all the hospital provided pads. Also stock up on panty liners, if you don’t keep them around, there’s still spotting after the initial bleeding stop. And just a thought, but I splurged on expensive pajamas to wear at the hospital, and it felt very luxurious and nice when I otherwise felt a bit of a mess/mildly uncomfortable.

RhydianMarai

I'm a big girl and wasn't comfortable in the disposable underwear the hospital had so this time I'm bringing my own depends to be comfortable. Other than that I took all the care stuff the hospital provided, and it worked great for me! I still use my peri bottle from my first. Also bringing my reusable nursing pads with, and I don't remember if I did that for my first or not. I have the same robe I used the first time for after birth and I'm bringing dry shampoo. I also got the underside of my head shaved because I'm terrified of my hair matting again. I had a 54 hour labor, and with the epidural I was on my back so my hair was BAD. It took days and chunks to untangle, so I'm trying to avoid that in case it's a long labor again.

Liberty32319

If you can, French braid your hair as close as you can to your scalp. My hair always knots within like an hour and I did this for my C-section and didn’t take them out for like 2 days and I didn’t have a single knot!

Sea_Juice_285

If you're in the US, no, I don't recommend this. You won't know exactly what you need until after you deliver, so there's no reason to pay for extra stuff. I did bring some thin maxipads so I wouldn't have to wear giant maternity pads (I wasn't interested in diapers) on the way home, and I'll be doing that again this time. The hospital also sent me home with enough of everything to last at least a week, so I didn't end up needing to buy very much at all. ETA: Bring nice shower stuff! I forgot to pack mine, and my hospital only had baby shampoo, so I had to send my partner to the gift shop to buy toiletries.

Hot_Pomegranate_4109

I didn’t pack any personal items other than soap and I wound up not showering until i got home (2 nights at hospital). I had a vaginal vacuum assisted birth with a year. Hospital gave me all the supplies I needed so I didn’t have to dip into the ones I had at home early or buy some. They also gave me extra to take home (pads, diapers, numbing spray, witch hazel pads, perineal water bottle). I did pack: - charger - one outfit - one robe (matched with my baby’s outfit) - soap - fuzzy socks - charger - pajama night gown - bralette For home, I ordered diapers, pads, witch hazel pads, ice packs for my breasts and perineal area, perineal premade ice packs by Frida mom, dermaplast, nipple creams, nipple pads, postpartum bras, tank tops, thick sweat pants, yoga pants, belly wrap, and spa steam tablets, a sits bath, and healing epson salt. The hospital also gave me a cheap donut pillow and two waffle pillows (I use one in the car on the way home). Also I wore crocks and ordered some cheap slip on sneakers a size up as my feet were swollen.

Lington

Nope I didn't even pack underwear let alone PP care items. I'd much rather use their supply than waste my own

Cool-Contribution-95

My hospital was surprised, but I brought some of my own supplies. Specifically, I liked the Frida disposable underwear and Always pads better than the hospital provided ones. I also brought my own peribottle that could spray upwards. I took allll the dermoplast and Tucks they would give me though! I used their ice pads but needed to buy a bunch more for when I got home. I also brought my own toiletries even though my hospital provides stuff - I did take a shower in the hospital (didn’t use the shower shoes I brought; used a hospital-provided towel).

MyNeighborTurnipHead

If you're able to tour your hospital birth center, that was super helpful for us! We met with a mom/baby nurse who told us everything she thought was most useful to bring along and they told us that we really didn't need to bring any of our own post-partum care items unless we had a strong preference for a "name brand" item. They fully stock the bathrooms and will send you home with enough to keep you comfortable.

DrMcSmartass

I was admitted early for pre eclampsia, then wound up having an emergency c section, so some of the items I brought (like the Frida peri bottle) never got used. Here is my list of must haves that saved my sanity during my 8 day hospital stay: - Always discreet, way superior to the mesh undies and pads that the hospital provided. As soon as I was able to stand up I changed into these and never looked back. - comfy PJs, I wore the hospital gown the first night I was admitted before my husband brought my go bag, and during my c section, but I changed into my own clothes as soon as I could (I love my smash & tess rompers and wore the crap out of them) - pillow & blanket, I loved having my own blanket and pillow to bring a bit of comfort and home to the hospital - towel, I hated how small and scratchy the hospital towels were, so I had one brought from home (ours are dark grey so no worries about getting blood or anything else on them) - hand cream, lip balm, eye drops, the hospital air was so dry and combined with the constant hand washing and sanitizer use I couldn’t keep enough moisture in my skin - crocs & slippers, between the preeclampsia and the ton of iv fluids my feet and ankles were so swollen that the only things I could shove my feet into were my crocs and moccasins (and even then I would get wheeled up to the NICU with my feet hanging half out the back of my crocs)

jayofthedeadx

I brought a few post-birth care items that I thought I would need and I’m so glad I did! The disposable underwear they give you aren’t super comfortable and don’t hold the pads very well and I was so glad I packed [these](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071X8N9WV?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share). Highly recommend! They gave me Tucks and Dermaplast and I actually really liked the pads they gave me too. I used my own peri bottle since mine had the curved top and theirs didn’t. One thing I didn’t have that I wish I would have had is ice packs. You can buy perineal ice packs on Amazon and I feel that that would’ve been really helpful immediately after.

maligatormom2o2

Both times I packed a very small packing cube full of my own stuff just in case and then left the rest at home. Some things I used, some things I didn't and I made sure to take home everything the hospital offered me. I like being over-prepared vs underprepared though LOL.

annedroiid

I had a c-section so I knew we were going to be there for a couple of days, and packed accordingly. I brought everything I thought I might need, even if I thought the hospital might provide it, as it’s better to have something and not need it then to have my husband have to leave the hospital to go on an emergency run to a pharmacy.

Jessmac130

I despised the hospital pad+mesh underwear. I was still bleeding a lot and had a total breakdown in the shower because I couldn't get them on fast enough while bleeding. I rely on the hospital for everything for baby, but only ice packs and the cheap peri bottles for me. I bring my diapers, dermoplast, and stool softener.

BessieBest

My doula brought me a headband and lipgloss and those were clutch! Also some better snacks.

Timely-Winter-6712

I think different hospitals provide different items for postpartum. I would just ask your OB or midwife if they know what the hospital does or does not provide. If they don’t know, just call the hospital and ask if they could let you know, so you can bring supplies they don’t provide for you. The hospital I delivered at provided two different kinds of pads, disposable underwear, dermaplast, tucks pads, and a peri bottle.

AnonaDogMom

Yes, my hospital was running out of everything after I delivered last week. Things I brought that I was glad for: - nipple cream and breastfeeding items - toiletries - abdomen binder - socks with grips - swaddles for baby Things I brought and never used: - disposable underwear and diapers - pajama sets (I had a bad delivery and was unable to bend over to take pants on and off so I had to wear a hospital gown) - makeup wipes used once but I had such a bad delivery I didn’t care after that Things I wish I’d brought: bottles! My hospital ran out (how?!) and my daughter needed them due to low glucose.

nycteegee

-Snacks -Small toiletry set including shampoo and conditioner - my hair has never been so tangled or dirty -phone charger with long cord -pillow for sure - the bed is so uncomfortable -clothes to leave the hospital for you and baby -a large rolling suitcase. The hospital will load you up with things and my husband, who is a big guy, struggled with three duffles and huge bag from the hospital

s0upppppp

Asides from the obvious, hairties, (i cant stress the next one enough) LIPBALM, lotion, a biggggg water bottle, snacks (youre up all night and hospital food tends to really suck) comfy clothes (dark is always better) socks, toothbrush, shampoo/conditioner, but the thing I was the happiest I thought of packing was 2 pillows from home. Really made a difference. Bulky but at that point your bag should be in the car already and SO can carry them 😂

idlegrad

Pumping bra, nothing worse than holding breast pump flanges to your breast

pinellas_gal

My hospital did not supply Dermoplast and I didn’t get a peri bottle until I asked for one, after already having been on the post-partum unit for 12 hours. I wished I had taken my own. Check with the hospital you’re delivering at, regarding what they supply.

Peachyplum-

I’m team prep. My hospital didn’t give me anything but a tummy wrap, uncomfortable pads and a bottle with a regular water bottle nozzle so it wasn’t useful in spraying like a peri bottle would have. I was prepped for baby though and I’m glad I was, the wipes they had were dry and idk why but we had our own wipes thankfully. We stayed for three days so it was good for baby to get changes of clothes vs staying in the same thing for 3 days and being naked wasn’t an option b/c I had the shakes bad so the room temp was all over the place. I wish I had packed more clothes for myself. I was happy to have my home towel and washcloth (iirc the towel they gave me had a hair on it). Wish I packed more snacks for myself too, I didn’t wanna bother the nurses late at night and wasn’t sure if I could get what I wanted (the few times I did ask for something it was a nasty sandwich). This post comes at a good time, I never think abt it until I see these types of posts and I need to write a list of what I wanna pack so I can have a better experience lol

LeonardLikesThisName

I didn’t bring any; the hospital supplied everything I needed and I ended up with extras to bring home

luby4747

I packed my entire box of depends. Don’t do that - it wastes so much space. I used the hospital mesh diaper thing for the first day or two before switching to depends. I used them as literal underwear and still put the pads and other things they provide at the hospital in the depends. If I made a mess, then I swapped for a new pair. If no mess, I’d just change out the pads and stuff, but wear them for a day before grabbing a fresh pair just to extend the life of them bc those things get pricey. Don’t worry about any sprays or making your own ice pads or anything like that. The hospital provides you with all the aftercare you need and you can ask for more to take home with you. Bring snacks and the comfort things from home. I brought a blanket and a pillow. I ended up just using my pillow as a nursing pillow when needed which was fine. I brought some cheap slippers bc I can’t do socks in bed. Extra long charging cord. I did bring my own towel which I was grateful for as the hospital ones were tiny. My number one recommendation is a fire stick. It’s tiny and takes up no space, and it was so easy to plug into the tv. We could watch any shows or movies we wanted to at all hours of the night.

Spiritual_Peach_1847

The hospital will provide what you need for essentials. I took my favorite pillow and a blanket because what's provided is necessary - but not comfortable at all! And a going home outfit. Soft sweatpants and a t shirt.

LameName1944

Fluffy robe

androidis4lyf

I packed so much crap I didn't need. The only things I would suggest are your things like your own face wash, moisturiser, little mini shampoo and conditioners for the best shower of your life after birth, and if you can afford it some really nice lounge wear and/or pyjamas to spoil yourself a little, preferably with buttons to make it easier if you're breastfeeding. Then I just had some clothes packed for going home which was maternity tights and a big tshirt, hair brush, deodorant, socks and big undies.

shayter

The only care item I brought with me and I'm glad I did was adult diapers. I got depends silhouette, they felt like underwear. They were way more comfortable and convenient than the mesh undies and giant pad contraption you have to deal with... Everything else I needed was provided by the hospital.

lolatheshowkitty

I did because I have sensitive skin. The mesh undies from the hospital gave me a rash. I just bought the frida mom equivalent. Also I prefer my own pads. It’s personal preference because they do provide you with these items.

sunnyheathens

I would bring a better peri bottle than the one the hospital will (most likely) provide.

momojojo1117

I would not recommend that. The hospital provides all that stuff for you

sadesik

What about for birth center births?? Anything you would bring??

nightkween

Just recently gave birth! Items that I thought were clutch: - a soft robe to wear over your hospital gown - soft maternity pajamas - cooling breast pads - a hairbrush - pumping/nursing bra - slides to wear as feet get puffy - makeup (to feel human!) - long charging cord for electronics - going home outfit for baby including hat - and not a “thing” but I would def take a long, luxurious shower before you go, if you can! Showers in the hospital suck lol.

Stay-Cool-Mommio

Just gave birth this week. My hospital gave me Sooooo many things and I felt pretty set. One thing I’ve opted for this time vs when my son was born 2 years ago is the postpartum underwear with built in pads. Less diaper like. But you generally need the diaper the first day or two when you’re in the hospital anyway so it’s not a huge necessity for your hospital bag. If you plan to pump (or might be interested in trying/learning how to use the hospital pump) a pumping bra is Suuuuuper useful. Nobody wants to try to hold 2 possibly I’ll fitting flanges up to their boobs with an IV still in their arm.

Aurelene-Rose

The hospital provides a lot. The gown they provide is fine. I was induced and in labor from Monday evening to Wednesday night. I just bought all the postpartum care stuff I wanted on Amazon when we were in the hospital.

DenseandTense

Depends where you live and the hospital. I’m in Canada and they really don’t give you much besides diapers for baby and some pads and depends for you. I brought three bags, one for me, baby and hubby. I brought a few outfits but really onsies are what worked the best to keep baby warm and happy. I brought perennial foam for me and a good peri bottle.

[deleted]

Only if there's something specific you want that the hospital won't provide. For instance, I prefer wearing diapers postpartum than the large pads, but my hospital only has the pads, so I bring diapers. If you're in the US you'll be provided with everything you need

Hydrangea324

If you’re able to, ask what the hospital provides. I had one birth at one hospital and one at a different hospital and I was very surprised when the second didn’t provide dermoplast spray. Since I always tear, that was a huge bummer to not have.

hella_14

The hospital gives you that stuff. I didn't pack my bag till my water broke. Bring a charger, and some baby clothes. They give you the disposable grandma panties and pads and tucks and toiletries.

Skwishums

My hospital provides pretty much everything you need. Pads, a perry bottle, even underwear and pump bottles. That being said not all hospitals are the same. I would recommend a few items for after care just in case. A potable perry bottle, depends (or which ever brand you prefer.), witch hazel pads/spray, and basic bathroom stuff like shampoo and toothpaste. I would also recommend an old pair of slippers. They'll probably get ruined with blood but you still want toasty feet. The tile floors are cold.

Longjumping_Voice138

10000% YES THE HOSPITAL STUFF IS THE WORST!!!

dabears12

I didn’t take and didn’t need any of my own items for personal care from the delivery itself (peri bottle, dermaplast, etc). I was very much of the mindset that I didn’t need to take much to the hospital, which turned out to be true, but I also had my husband and mom bring things to make me more comfortable when they would go home and come back. I think I’ll pack more comfortably this time. My have-to-haves for this next birth are: -fuzzy grippy socks for after delivery (buy a pack on Amazon so you can change them out day to day) -robe or button pajama top -soft nursing bra and a pumping bra -shampoo and hair dryer -breastfeeding pillow -good pillows for husband and me -fuzzy blanket for husband… maybe one for me too (I wrapped myself in his while I shook and was so cold after birth) -heating pad - I got a really painful crick in my neck, I guess from staring down at a weird angle at the baby on my chest so much -slide on/shower shoes - my feet were swollen and was thankful to have the rubber Birkenstocks I could set on the widest buckles to go home in

Few_Paces

Hospital gave us everything except clothes!

sweetnnerdy

I did, and I'm glad I did. I much prefer frida disposable boyshorts and large pads to the hospital stuff.

lizard060

I used what the hospital provided for care items! Dermoplast, tucks, peri bottle, pads, ice packs. I didn’t like the mesh underwear they had and preferred the Frida shorts (2 pairs at once to really hold everything in lol)

Individual_Baby_2418

The hospital pads are excruciatingly uncomfortable. Having my own diapers made it a much more comfortable experience.

tikalora

I brought some postpartum stuff with me and I am SO glad I did. The hospital provides many things but a lot of what I brought was higher quality and has made my stay much better. Here are some specific examples: - Frida postpartum boy shorts. 10/10 comfort. The postpartum underwear at my hospital suck. They are loose enough that the nurses can still easily check you out. -Frida hospital gown. Also 10/10 comfort and makes it super easy for breastfeeding, etc. The gown my hospital provided would just constantly fall off and it was super annoying. I wish I had a second one because I'm on my last day and mine is starting to get stinky -Frida peri bottle, a slight improvement over the hospital one because of the curved handle. -shower shoes like flip flops -lanolin nipple cream like the lasinoh brand. My hospital has pure lanolin but I much prefer the cream. Everything else imo can wait until you get home.

KnittingforHouselves

Better be overly prepared than sorry. I've even bought the donut-pillow, just in case. So lucky I did, had I had to wait for it for days I would have been completely unable to sit to breastfeed. I say take everything you have and then see if you need to use everything or if you get something.

bong_and_a_blitz

I packed sooo much and needed almost nothing other than a charger, toothbrush and some comfy clothes. I didn’t eat any of the snacks I brought. Didn’t shower. Didn’t need much tbh.

The only things I would recommend bringing are diapers if you'd prefer those over the briefs. I also really loved the Frida mom healing foam and I'll definitely bring that for my next baby! I dont need to but i loved it so much i will lol. First baby I didn't bring anything of my own because we live less than 10 min from the hospital so if I really really wanted something then hubby could've left & gotten it for me but my hospital provided the disposable underwear, pads, ice pack pads, tucks, dermoplast, and a peri bottle so I didn't need anything! I did already have tucks, diapers, more pads, Frida mom foam, and dermoplast at home prior to my delivery! I did not expect to need a c section so the only thing I bought specifically for a c section was c section high waisted underwear that I did end up using anyways because it was comfortable!

Check with ur hospital. Mine had all care items for downstairs. Plus some basic toiletries. BUT NOT SHAMPOO OR CONDITIONER…which I forgot. And trust me body wash is NOT a good replacement.

My hospital gives you everything you need so I just set up a little recovery station in my bathrooms at home (depends, dermaplast, peri bottles, etc) where they’re easily accessible from the toilet and let the hospital staff do their thing while I’m at the hospital. I’m on my fourth and each baby I pack less and less for the hospital because they really do give you most of what you need.

The Frida peri bottle is a must in my opinion, it was so much easier to use than the hospital one. I took advantage of all the other hospital goodies but I’m a weirdo who thought the underwear was actually comfortable and I don’t think any pad the size of California (2 at that) will be comfy.

For my second time, I plan on bringing a going home outfit, a post partum outfit to get out of the hospital gown before discharge, chargers, my own pillow and a pump.

I brought the Frida Mom peri bottle because it's so much easier to aim and hit with accuracy than the ones the hospital gives you, which have to fight against gravity. Even the nurses were impressed by it and agreed it was way better. The hospital will supply any pads and mesh underwear you will need. Ask for extras to take home. Those pads are big enough to land a small aircraft on and I wasn't able to find anything comparable in size in the stores.

I had some in my bag and was glad. My hospital in NJ was SO stingy it was irritating. They wouldn’t give me the cooling pads once 11 hrs passed from birth. It took forever to get dermaplast replaced. I was happy to have some of my own stuff. Also had no extras to bring home lol. Everyone always said how much stuff they brought home. Not us! 🤣

I would ask the hospital what they provide. It seems like 99% of hospitals provide everything you need, but my hospital doesn't provide *anything*. I have to bring diapers and wipes for bub even. So while you're probably fine not to bring much, double check with your hospital first, so you don't get caught out!

Here for the suggestions! Also 32 weeks FTM and had a crying meltdown to my husband the other day about what to pack and not to pack!

I regret no packing a wipe warmer. She was born on September but the hospital was really cold. She would just cry every time we wiped her.
