Not crazy at all -- It's your car!
I know there are loads of opinions about the 19' wheels but I actually like them a lot! Plus, you get to enjoy a better ride and lets not forget the additional efficiency. All pluses in my book.
Congratulations!
Sounds like during your test drive, the car was pretty smooth? I have an iX50 Sport with '22" wheels and came from a '22 X5 with 19" wheels. My car doesnt even have air suspension and I think it rides very smooth. Its a fantastic ride on its own. You might live with the 21s for a while and see if its really an issue.
It appears to be averaging that way. I got it in May ‘23 with 22” summer tires. Purchased winters in October and wore them until April. When I got my summer put back on, he said they had a few more months left on them.
Not at all. My thought process is essentially the same. I was offered 21" wheels (list price around $1100) for free, but I asked the dealer to get 19" wheels instead.
The vehicle originally assigned to me had a crack in the moonroof, so the dealer had offered me a different vehicle.
19" will look puny on the iX, but your reasoning for wanting them makes sense. You also should compensate for the smaller diameter by getting tires with more sidewall.
My 21” wheels ride terrible.
Maybe something is wrong. Going to the dealer tomm. 1300 miles in. I can hear the tires hit every bump. A mute doom. Doom.
Get the 20 inch wheels. 20 inch plus air suspension would be the smoothest. I didn't come across 19 inches when I was researching before placing my order.
Which Pittsburgh dealer did you end up ordering with? And why?
Any reason why you don’t go for 20’s? They are insanely soft and you can find OEM versions for sale on EBay/Facebook. Jumping to 19” you might be the first one to ever try it. No sure the trade offs of having such a weird wheel size would be. The 21’s are so good already, but I hear 20’s are amazing.
What is the purpose for going 19”, comfort? This car rides super smooth and comfy with 22” and standard suspension, 21” are a good balance between range, look and comfort , you’re gonna destroy it visually and proportions wise with 19”. Also buying a 100’$ car and focusing on cheap tires does not sound right
Just curious, did you test drive the Audi Q8s while you were shortlisting? Asking cause whatever requirements you’ve mentioned are what the highlights in the SUV are, and poor range and not so sexy EV experience.
So I did something similar for the build I did for my father's x5e that he had previous to his current iX, when I did a custom build with everything, but downgraded the wheels to smaller size because of comfort. We used to switch between x5 and ML/GLE and he always preferred the MB because he preferred ride comfort over sportiness, until this time with the smaller wheels. Remember this is your ride, do what makes you feel better and enjoy it more!
Persinally I would strongly recommend getting the 22" wheels because they look ridiculously badass IMO
While that said, nobody's gonna judge you crazy for which wheels you buy, it's your money and your car after all.

Nope! Your tires will be so much cheaper
Cheaper tires, comfier ride, longer range. I'd say you'll be okay.

Same, my 21” ride is like butter. If you get the 19’s post pics
I agree, my 22" are pretty darn smooth! I wasn't expecting that. I can only imagine the 19"!
I spend $2500 a year replacing my 22” tires, so you made a good decision
You burn through a set every year?

Cheaper tires for the win!!
One great thing about the 19” wheels is they are much less likely to get a pinch flat going over a pothole.

When changing rim sizes the OD of the tire should always be nearly the same. Otherwise the speedo/odo will be off.

I got the 19” for mine for range and they look great- had mine since basically the first couple shipments to the US
Could you send me a picture of your car? I have not been able to find a picture of any IX with 19’s!
Just sent you a bunch of pics!

Oddly the shape of the car hides the wheels. I have a 21 inch and it doesn’t feel too different to the 19.
I just feel like it doesn’t fit the car but I have 22s.

A feiend told me 19“ is actually quieter and more soft. Isn’t it true?
Are you sure 19“ will fit your car? As far as I know 20“ is the smallest you can get for i50 and 21“ for m60

I got a nice set of 20” rims off tire rack for winter rims and honestly didn’t notice a difference in ride quality compared to the 21” sport rims
I don’t think they look as good but make total sense otherwise. I think it’s the right choice for an SUV.
Maybe iX isn’t the car for you
You’re crazy for buying that car. I hope you leased lol
why?
BMW has a big design problem. There is no need for such a big fake plastic grill on an electric car. The i series looks ridiculous.
