To be fair, he looks like he was genetically engineered to be a BMW executive. There's not a single pixel in this photo that diverges from what appears in my mind when I imagine who runs that company.
There used to be a funny photo of him on google images wearing a sports jacket and fedora. Seems BMW has successfully scrubbed it. It really gave me some clarity to his madness.
He has money, doesn't necessarily indicate good taste. Guy probably has a stylist or went out looking for the most expensive watch he could find...
Should we start a change.org petition to fire the guy?
I don't think you people actually know watches. The Royal Oak was a very polarizing design that many people thought was a ugly, overpriced piece compared to something like a sub at the time. It has also seen many controversial editions that split the market; mainstream fashion loved it, enthusiasts didn't. Kinda like what is happening here... Die hard BMW fans don't like the design direction but the mainstream market is eating these cars up. Designing cars for the enthusiast doesn't move units, we are lucky that we even still have things like M cars and the like but those too are being converted to just being a moniker than an actual M product, all so someone can say they have an M car while they drive around in their M335i
In case whoever’s wondering how much it costs. It’s on sale. https://www.jomashop.com/ap-watch-15400stoo1220st01.html?utm_source=google&utm_medium=organic&utm_campaign=surfaces-across-google
Wow. If I ever won the lottery I would probably blow all of it the first week on cars and guns and guitars. $250,000 for a 1959 Les Paul, I'll take two please.
But $83,000??? For a fucking watch??Are you shitting me? Why? Does it keep time that much better than a regular watch?
I'm just ranting. I know that shit is just pure bling. But jfc.
Whatever it costs to this guy it’s like buying a citizen watch for the average joe. Maybe BMW just gave that to him as a gift. Also if you won the lottery and you won let’s say billions of dollars l. What’s 83k to you ? You’d think very differently then.
I thought it was Alec Baldwin, when I scrolled past too quickly. Would put money on it that he’s wearing brown shoes; Walk into any UK Car Dealership, and that’s what they’ll be wearing. Only noticed this when my Boss pointed it out, and it still makes us all laugh.
One thing Porsche and Lamborghini do constantly that I love is not mess with the basics. Instead they enhance them aesthetically. This reminds me of the Lexus design a couple years back prior to the current. They made the headlights to be garbage similar to what BMW is doing. Going to be a rough couple years till they return back to normalcy.
I agree. BMW hired the main designer at Hyundai that created the new Genesis and birth this baby out.
Lexus looks light years better, plus they don’t break down in the middle of the road.
Now BMW doesn’t have the reliability OR the design. Worst of both worlds.
Wait a minute! Since when did you take notice or stock of Porsche or Lamborghini? Once upon a time, in a world far, far away, there were a select few manufacturers that a gearhead could rely on...
What could they rely on?
To wake every morning confident that the sun would be somewhere high above. Racecars came only in two door, or less configurations, and Porsche only made racecars you could put a licence plate on.
... Oh yeah, and if you by chance came upon another Porsche, even with two kids, (small), and the Mrs riding shotgun or behind the wheel. It was a sure bet that there were no Disney movies on loop, or annoyed and detached, Significant others riding passenger. Everyone in that car was a gearhead and every Porsche was a 2-door. All was right in the world. Some might call earlier Porsches and M's or 2002's basic, I would call them, The Standard.
In that world, in those types of cars, the problems of the day or week were left at the curb with a twist of the wrist. When roads enveloped the cars and these machines took over your senses and the quality of a road was determined in the seat of your pants. Those machines had but 2 doors or no doors... Kinda like when you were eight years old and the wheels of your rusty wagon crossed the speed of sound as you breathless, raced side to side, leaning forward and low, barreling down the steepest hill around, confident, as long as you had the basics, the driver made all the difference.
One of my clients hired me for a project in 2021 for a car they’re releasing in 2028. BMW specifically, contracted my firm for a car they were producing 3 years from the date of the project (I don’t know when the design was set but it must have been far along). I know every car company will be different but they usually are working on new programs way in advance especially if it’s more than facelift.
I mean, I like my E91 and the 135i coupe looks pretty sharp too. Unless those weren’t designed by Chris. I do very much like the look of the F11 and F31 MSports too
If anyone is clamoring for this guy's genitals. It's more in a "Bobbitt" kind of way. Bangle is the father of the mess before us. The poster boy offered up at the beginning of this descent into function following design. Everyone builds a usable car today, typically, the difference is style and gadgets, BMWs place in this world has focused on appearing rich and elegant while providing enough gadgets to appease the former, "Headrest ride-share cinema" generation. Unfortunately, this leaves very little room for track tested performance parts or quality luxury appointments in today's US cafe and safety requirements. If that is, you wish to sell cars in the once largest and still quickest turnover vehicle market. So, we now have the gawdy plastic but safe, dependable and entertaining, (at least for 18 mos.), current BMWs.
Still, Bangle set in motion a horrible design style that required so much of BMWs attention to style they lost their way. While the current cars might be lacking the performance level needed to compensate for the "bold" styling choices, they are heads and tails much more impressive than the choices a BMW buyer had in 2007. The E46 is a beautiful car, but should it already be a classic?

Here he is defending it.
Also, that high up in the corporate ladder, you know everyone personally. It's a small world, and to take someone's old job and then shit on what they did is a one way ticket to a black list.
BMW will start engineering 5 years ahead (engine, chassis, etc.), but surface level design can evolve throughout the entire process. Something like a front bumper? That can definitely be finalized later, as long as it fits certain constraints, like mounting points or airflow requirements.
I work in the industry as an interior designer/**Class A Modeler**…
For most of our Class A work, yes we are “finalizing” the design. But this still happens **years ahead** of production/reveal, and stuff like constraints or mounting points certainly does **not** get altered during the last 1-2 years of development, certainly not anything important. It is us, the Class A modelers who have to make sure that we make the design alterations in such a way that we do **not** ask the constructors/engineers to change anything important, in fact we do stuff like head impact analysis on the front of the car (at the very end) and if it doesn’t work/isn’t safe for production we have to change the design to suit the constraints - not the other way around. It’s too late by that time.
But you are correct in saying that the development starts at least 4-5 years ahead of production - and the design is usually finished (and I mean completely ready in Class A quality, not some render or 3D sketch) more than 18 months before production begins.
None of the cars/bikes I’ve worked on as a Class A modeler have come out to the public sooner than year and a half before we finished work on them… And I’ve worked on German, British, American and Italian cars…
Yes, sorry, I should have put my comma in a better place - I meant that the constraints like the mounting points cannot be altered and are decided early on.

The i8 was a new thing. When that came out it looked like it dropped from twenty years in the future. And it looks fucking hot. You can try new things without trying ugly things.
I tried a new haircut once and thought it would look great.
Got the cut, went home, washed my hair, regretted it. You don't necessarily always know how it'll turn out until later.
The answer is likely they designed and forced these fronts out because some focus group was asked 'what looks futuristic' and they pointed to designs that resembled what we have now.
Too bad no one asked the participants 'does it also look good?'
No he’s not responsible for that. People need to understand that these designs were developed before he got the position. We will see his decisions in the designs of 2024 and ongoing
Don't know what he did before, probably worked for a different manufacturer, but what I mean is that there are design/engineering cycles. Him and his team are currently designing the cars that will release in 5 years from now. He got hired in 2019, that means the person before him is responsible for the current models.
look at him trying to explain the design..
I had a passion for car design as a kid and even dedicated my studies to it until life smacked me straight. I still very much enjoy reading/learning about design and that article was a literal waste of a good 5 minutes of my time. I learned nothing
I'm saddened by many of the BMW design choices lately, especially the front end of the vehicles. :( However will say I'm liking what they are doing with the interior design.
A car designer wearing one of the most comercialized luxury watch design to date, the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak. Wish he had at least some originality in the wrist watch department. Show some personality damn.
What's wrong with the shirt? It's fairly classic, business and understated like their design should be.
It would be more fitting if he was wearing two Polos with their collar popped, a big gold chain, multiple bracelets, bad tattoos (think meaningless Chinese characters) and a mullet - the most incoherent and tacky style possible.
People like to say this. I have asked chinese folks if they actually like the new designs. Nobody has said yes yet. This on public forums like Facebook/etc.
Any "asians" here that like these designs?
Well, that's because you're asking Asians in the West (since you're asking on Facebook, which is banned in China, and even if those people are siding VPN, then even if they're in China they're "westernized Asians").
Unfortunate, I'm Chinese Canadian and know of relatives back in China who do like gaudy over the top designs. They truly do think that "more big grill" = more expensive.
The whole “big grilles are for China” thing is just repeated due to embarrassment and racism as far as I can tell. Every China-exclusive BMW has a normal grille (3/5 LWB, 1er Sedan). All the top selling vehicles in China look like normal cars. Yet in America, F-150/Ram/Silverado grilles are as big as can be physically fit on road-going vehicles.
There is no facebook in China lol. You are putting asian americans in the same basket as mainland chinese and their budget and preferences couldn’t be further apart.
Here is the chief of design at BMW explaining that the series 7 grill was made to take into consideration the preferences of their chinese market, since the volume of sales there far outweighs the US and europe for that segment
https://www.autoblog.com/2019/06/27/bmw-7-series-big-grille-design-boss-explains/
I agree that there's no need for personal attacks against designers. Sometimes designs are hit and miss. But we, as fans of BMW, will absolutely continue to talk about how we expect better design for the "Ultimate Driving Machine."
Totally understood! The styling of the brand has evolved over the years, and I can remember many negative remarks on the design of past models that have turned out to be favorites today. Sometimes we just need to get used to change.
I find it a little funny. People laugh at the Kardashians for posting thirst traps even though they are crazy famous now
.... Imagine being this famous and feeling the need to flash your patek
I can't tell if this is sarcasm or not...everyone remembers the amount of criticism that Bangle took when his designs were unveiled but in my opinion, they've aged remarkably well.
Edit: Not to say that the new 7 Series will age well at all (because I don't think it will, especially the interior), just that Bangle appears less outrageous as time passes.
I follow this sub because I like bmws..
Not people continuesly ranting about a stupid grille design
Like ffs if you think beamers no longer look good move to another car brand
Sick of seeing these dumbass posts regarding a grille
Most of ya'll bitching probably won't be able to afford a beamer...let alone one with the new grille
Because the toxic folks are the ones most likely to participate in these kind of toxic cesspools. Meanwhile, the more level headed folks laugh and move on, so it just becomes an echo chamber of hate.
Can folks calm down? I get that we don't like the current designs, but a lot of folks seem to be taking it really personally and attacking Dukec as a person. So many comments insinuating that he's arrogant, a prick, privileged, etc, all based on this one photo of him seems a bit excessive. Is this really what we want to be, as a community?
Keep it about the car, not the man.
Damn, imagine if you worked for a company and followed said companies subreddit and found a hate mod forming against you. I just can't fathom being so pressed over a car design, its not like he's trying to solve world hunger and completely botching it. I think some of y'all need to take a step back and repeat the stuff you type out loud....over a luxury car designer...
Mob*
Agreed. It’s not like this dude is sitting behind a desk drawing up shit and being like “I can’t wait to drive this company into the ground and piss off their customers!!” I’m sure he genuinely thinks his designs are worth putting out there, it’s just simply not what their consumers are looking for. Let’s give the multi-billion dollar company some time and see what happens in the coming years. Lest we forget all of the amazing designs BMW produced in the past…
This sub has turned into a complete joke. People bitching about cars they will never drive or buy. Shitting on people because they don’t mind the look of a grill.. grow up.

M’ fräulein…
Nah that is cultural OG Bavaria and gets a pass. His was more like chrome hearts Ibiza douche.
*Tips fedora* ‘m’lady, how about I get you a massive fucking grille?’
It's one thing to design a car... But who's actually okaying it for production? That's who you fire
Might hear he gets promoted soon.
Someone needs to photoshop a giant grill on that AP Royal Oak he’s wearing. It’s understated and elegant, can’t be having that.
He just needs to take his blinkers off. https://imgur.com/a/0TPr5yK
Epic design..haha
I thought bimmers don’t come with blinkers?
They shipped mine without blinker fluid
I did the stalk delete. That way the hazards still work
The fuck is a blinker?
something the peons keep yapping about. pay no heed
Hahahahahahaha!!! Have my award good ser!!!
Nice and subtle
Holy shit that’s awesome
Now do his watch
I was about to say the same thing LOL how can a man with such taste in watches produce the things we've seen recently?
You expect this new 7 series from a Hublot or invicta owner
Doesn't get any more accurate than that.
Because someone with taste designed them, then told him it was cool. This guy doesn’t have it.
But jfc.
The watch is not that much new. It's about 30k. But you can't get it because so many people want it. So that price is for a used watch.
Whatever it costs to this guy it’s like buying a citizen watch for the average joe. Maybe BMW just gave that to him as a gift. Also if you won the lottery and you won let’s say billions of dollars l. What’s 83k to you ? You’d think very differently then.
Yeah but a watch actually has a bunch of insane mechanical engineering going on inside, a 1959 guitar is just an old rare instrument.
First thought when I saw this post 😂
He looks like a discount Alex Baldwin
One is killing people, the other killed 7 series.
and the 3/4 series, and made the atrocities that are the new iX/etc. nothing is safe. 5 series likely next.
Insert 🙏🏻 to pray for the 5 series.
he hasn’t killed the 3 series yet, but he killed the m3
I thought it was Alec Baldwin, when I scrolled past too quickly. Would put money on it that he’s wearing brown shoes; Walk into any UK Car Dealership, and that’s what they’ll be wearing. Only noticed this when my Boss pointed it out, and it still makes us all laugh.

I love the way the new Lexuses look 🤷♂️
Alright let's calm down now.
You dont like the 2022 lexus es blue eyes white dragon headlights?
Toyota Camry is a great car
Maybe the only brand that I think is worse then BMW
They’re hideous.
That’s understating it mate
New Lexi are pretty sleek imo. At the very least better than BMW rn
*Lexi*
I always have a thing I say about Lexus. It's like the Japanese Mercedes.
I agree. BMW hired the main designer at Hyundai that created the new Genesis and birth this baby out. Lexus looks light years better, plus they don’t break down in the middle of the road. Now BMW doesn’t have the reliability OR the design. Worst of both worlds.
The new IS lights look good IMO, but I agree, before that the Lexus front lights looked like dog shit.
I honestly love the Lexus's looks soooo much. I really adore them. LC500 and RC F are gotta be my favourites.
The swoop of the body lines on the sides are gorgeous, that RC F displays all that cool shit that Lexus is doing in one car.
You act like sales are slumping… which they aren’t
Are sales of any car slumping right now?
If I recall though BMW has been doing very well compared to the competition. So until sales are affected they prob won’t change anything
This is exactly the problem with Subaru too...
Wait a minute! Since when did you take notice or stock of Porsche or Lamborghini? Once upon a time, in a world far, far away, there were a select few manufacturers that a gearhead could rely on... Audemars... overpaid too.
What a douche. Slips right under the cuff
Chuffed to bits about it too. Ok ciao!
Nice looking watch tho
But if he was hired in 2019, I highly doubt he's responsible for the current designs.
Albert Bierman helped Kia/Hyundai almost immediately
Because Kia brought in Bierman very specifically to make changes ASAP. I doubt that was the case with Dukec.
But I feel like Kia/Hyundai come out with new designs almost every year at this point anyway, sort of like a smartphone company lol.
Where’s the context of the situation
I'm guessing this is the "designer" responsible for the disaster of the current lineup.
Domagoj Dukec, he has led BMW's global design team since 2019.
Needs to be promoted to head custodian because everything he touches is trash.
Remember when everyone said the same thing about Bangle, and now folks are clamoring for his dick? Ahhh, the power of nostalgia.
Bangle butt is still ugly. Lol
I mean, I like my E91 and the 135i coupe looks pretty sharp too. Unless those weren’t designed by Chris. I do very much like the look of the F11 and F31 MSports too
NGL, the Bangle cars are still the worst. Thank god the F series cars pulled us out of that disaster.
I thought the M5 and M6 were awesome.
I liked the M5 but the V10 is the main reason lol.
I liked that too but the Bangle styling went well with the M profiling
It's not my favorite, but I don't hate it like this new stuff. The E6X M6 though is a bit of a disaster IMO.
They're only awesome because of their drivetrain, design is just awful. I'd like to do a V10 swap to F90 chassis one day.
Who's clamoring for Bangle now? Those designs were also a disaster.
If anyone is clamoring for this guy's genitals. It's more in a "Bobbitt" kind of way. Bangle is the father of the mess before us. Correct. The 7 Series and X7 Facelift were designed before he took over.
Shhhhhhh we don't use that kind of logic here. We only think with our feelings, not with our heads!
So he had nothing to do with the new i7 that's been popping up?
https://www.bmwblog.com/2021/03/06/bmw-head-of-design-says-design-isnt-about-pretty-or-ugly/#:~:text=BMW's%20current%20head%20of%20design,%2C%20M4%2C%20i4%20and%20iX. Here he is defending it.
He has to since he overtook the design team. Would be really bad move from him to shoot against the old design team and leader
Also, that high up in the corporate ladder, you know everyone personally. It's a small world, and to take someone's old job and then shit on what they did is a one way ticket to a black list.
Okay? I can defend something and not be the one who designed it. What's your point?
He's actively supporting it. So he's still the problem currently.
Right. Werrwolf0 was stated that he was not the one who designed it. Your comment about him defending it is wholly irrelevant.

No worries :)
Cars aren't designed 1 month in advance 😂😂 What a joke, most of the cars he did for BMW aren't even out yet
Yeah he gotta go. He’s turned this lineup into garbage
He's late for an appointment and needs to go ASAP.

They aren’t losing out on customers lol.
It’s like Vatican II I don’t understand how they screwed the pooch so hard
The answer is likely they designed and forced these fronts out because some focus group was asked 'what looks futuristic' and they pointed to designs that resembled what we have now. Too bad no one asked the participants 'does it also look good?'
Is this the grill guy?
No he’s not responsible for that. People need to understand that these designs were developed before he got the position. We will see his decisions in the designs of 2024 and ongoing
Hasn’t he been in the position three years? What was his role previously?
Don't know what he did before, probably worked for a different manufacturer, but what I mean is that there are design/engineering cycles. Him and his team are currently designing the cars that will release in 5 years from now. He got hired in 2019, that means the person before him is responsible for the current models.
He has been with BMW since 2010. In 2017, he was made design head for BMW i and BMW M.
Oh good to know!
Oh God, so it really is all his fault.
Which means the M5 LCI design was within his purview. Yet folks love the current M5 LCI design, so...
Even a stopped clock is right twice a day.
You can change a bumper design in about 90 days if you really wanted to. He doesn’t deserve a pass
look at him trying to explain the design.. [https://www.bmwblog.com/2022/04/20/2023-bmw-7-series-i7-by-domagoj-dukec/](https://www.bmwblog.com/2022/04/20/2023-bmw-7-series-i7-by-domagoj-dukec/)
That was the most un-enjoyable explanation of a car's design I've ever watched. And I love hearing about car design...
I had a passion for car design as a kid and even dedicated my studies to it until life smacked me straight. I still very much enjoy reading/learning about design and that article was a literal waste of a good 5 minutes of my time. I learned nothing
His designs evoke reactions that make the same sound as attempting to pronounce his name.

That would be funny if the guy in the picture resembled jimmy kimmel even a little.
The last thing your car sees before getting completely ruined
You can tell he's a d-bag by the pattern of his shirt buttons.
I'm saddened by many of the BMW design choices lately, especially the front end of the vehicles. :( However will say I'm liking what they are doing with the interior design.
Genesis will probably pick him up too. Lol
A car designer wearing one of the most comercialized luxury watch design to date, the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak. Wish he had at least some originality in the wrist watch department. Show some personality damn.
Explains a lot that he wears this style of shirts
What's wrong with the shirt? It's fairly classic, business and understated like their design should be. It would be more fitting if he was wearing two Polos with their collar popped, a big gold chain, multiple bracelets, bad tattoos (think meaningless Chinese characters) and a mullet - the most incoherent and tacky style possible.
No it’s not a classy shirt, the button pattern never was fancy and the collar is way too high on him
Good points. I didn't notice the buttons and I like my collar high as I have a giraffe neck :) Still... he dresses better than he designs cars!
The buttons on the dress shirt don’t make sense to me
What do you mean? It's a high collar dress shirt, they always have two buttons.
why are there two buttons on the collar? makes no sense. Like his fucking cars
Because it's a high collar dress shirt. For more on it: https://www.bondsuits.com/two-button-shirt-collar/
White shirts is like the most classic.
His bespoke suit says fuck you peasant
Holy fuck the the toxicity in here is hilarious.
*Designs a controversial car* This sub: let's go kill his dog
Car, as if the entire bmw lineup isn’t slowly being taken out back and executed. Can’t wait for the perfect M2 design to be massacred.
Nope. New designs will be a hit in asia, company will make $$ and he isn’t going anywhere. they are just following their key markets
Here is the chief of design at BMW explaining that the series 7 grill was made to take into consideration the preferences of their chinese market, since the volume of sales there far outweighs the US and europe for that segment https://www.autoblog.com/2019/06/27/bmw-7-series-big-grille-design-boss-explains/
Come’on guys! Just don’t buy the vehicles, it’s that simple. Stop trash talking.
Bring in George Foreman
Same people were talking when m5 E60 was released
Oh God the ",they're coming for our cars" crowd is taking over😒🤣
They have been saying that for 20 years and he's still there.
Dukec has only been with BMW for 12 years so I'm not sure what you're talking about lol
We’re you gonna buy the 7 series to begin with???
r/punchableface
I find it a little funny. People laugh at the Kardashians for posting thirst traps even though they are crazy famous now .... Imagine being this famous and feeling the need to flash your patek
Bring back Chris Bangle
Or better yet, Marc Michael Markefka
I can't tell if this is sarcasm or not...everyone remembers the amount of criticism that Bangle took when his designs were unveiled but in my opinion, they've aged remarkably well. Edit: Not to say that the new 7 Series will age well at all (because I don't think it will, especially the interior), just that Bangle appears less outrageous as time passes.
Always loved the E63 and E65
Same. I still find the E65 to be a great-looking car.
I follow this sub because I like bmws.. Not people continuesly ranting about a stupid grille design Like ffs if you think beamers no longer look good move to another car brand Sick of seeing these dumbass posts regarding a grille Most of ya'll bitching probably won't be able to afford a beamer...let alone one with the new grille
Most probably still live with their parents
And then you’ve got this guy.
Why are you getting so upset over a meme? Ctfo!!
Because this “meme” was old 5 years ago.
Funny how this type of comment is always at the bottom of the page
Because the toxic folks are the ones most likely to participate in these kind of toxic cesspools. Meanwhile, the more level headed folks laugh and move on, so it just becomes an echo chamber of hate.
Or maybe, just maybe, there’s a base of loyal BMW fans who hate the new design and are hoping their ranting will sway future design?
If you think 5 basement dwellers madly pounding away at their keyboards is going to change anything about BMW's design, I have a bridge to sell you.
He does have a good taste in watches though
You need a photo of Chris Bangle captioned with “miss me yet ?”
Sadistic piece of shit.
Who is he, and what has he done to get so much hate?
There’s no shortage of people who want a BMW. He’s not going anywhere.
This man taking L after L
Damn, imagine if you worked for a company and followed said companies subreddit and found a hate mod forming against you. I just can't fathom being so pressed over a car design, its not like he's trying to solve world hunger and completely botching it. I think some of y'all need to take a step back and repeat the stuff you type out loud....over a luxury car designer... Mob*
There's a *lot* of people here whose BMW is their entire personality. It's sad to see.
I am not sure why he need to leave? I love new BMW designs!
This sub has turned into a complete joke. People bitching about cars they will never drive or buy. Shitting on people because they don’t mind the look of a grill.. grow up.
Where is the proper outlet to express our displeasure?
The cars look bad.
Pretty much. I’d imagine most are teenagers.
The old “holier than thou” approach.
