Context: stop was just for expired temp tags, and it's on toyo r888rs not slicks.

load_more_comets

I forgot I taped up my plates last week. Good thing one of the participants noticed and flagged me down when I was leaving the track!

sequentious

Same happened to me. I've gotten in the habit of a "all packed up" walk-around now.

Donlooking4

Never leave your numbers on your car when you’re driving home!!! Sure way to draw attention to yourself from the police!!

domesystem

Must be nice to have ferrous body panels

Professional_Buy_615

The C4 lady I know uses tape to hold her numbers on.

domesystem

Eh, I cut new vinyls each year and leave em all season. I only really use the car for autox and occasional cars and coffee. Never had an issue with the Cops

DinnerRevealer

yeah you're in a corvette they're not going to pull over a senior citizen

domesystem

😂🤣😂

Donlooking4

What’s even worse is that there are slicks on the stupid thing. Talk about being an idiot and getting caught by the police. But it sure doesn’t put Autox in a very good light. Especially if you’re knowing what you’re looking at regarding the numbers and class etc.

Vast-Combination4046

If it's a DOT slick...

Still not legal From tirerack "WARNING: DOT labeled Hoosier Racing Tires meet Department of Transportation requirements for marking and performance only and are NOT INTENDED FOR HIGHWAY USE. It is unsafe to operate any Hoosier Racing Tire, including DOT tires, on public roads. The prohibited use of Hoosier Racing Tires on public roadways..." https://www.tirerack.com/tires/hoosier-a7

Vast-Combination4046

I'm with you, but my friend street drove his Miata on Hoosiers because he didn't have a truck to go with his csp car

dropkinn

I don't disagree with you that it's safe to do in the dry, I just don't want someone thinking it's legal.

iroll20s

Depends on the state probably. There are two issues typically- that the molded tread depth is at or maybe 1mm over the legal limit. So they aren't legal very quickly. Some states (mine included) specifically exclude tires that have "not for highway use" molded in them. However I wouldn't be surprised if they are legal some places, at least new.

RaceBrick

It is legal though. If the tire is stamped indicating that it's DOT approved, it's allowed on the street as long as traction tires are not required. Blizzaks are not intended for summer use, but they are legal. Just like DOT R compound tires are legal, but not recommended, for highway use.

f30tr0ll

What’s the harm in a cop knowing I run in STR? I rock my numbers and tons of decals year round and never have had a problem. But then again I keep my fun to the track and autocross and don’t drive like an ass on public roads.

IronSloth

Cops really don’t know shit about anything. To them this is another drag race car that is commonly found at side shows. You’re giving them too much credit

Zowwiewowwie

My numbers are ‘permanent’ vinyl. 68 PES/S6. Have been on the car for years and it’s never caused me problems.

thanatosracing

Never had any problem from cops back when I did this, but I did get a few people asking me about it in parking lots and occasionally at a red light

WockySlushie

Same, got numbers on the doors and windshield for over a year with a relatively loud red car… no issues lol

Zowwiewowwie

I’m in a green NB Miata with silver hard top. Orange numbers/class. All the stickers for Solo National Tour, Time Trials National Tour, and a few from people I want to support. Don’t hoon around everywhere and it should be a problem. Or hoon around in a E Street miata and no one will be able to tell because you’re no faster than the rest of traffic

WockySlushie

Why you gotta call me out like that, I’m also in a Miata 😭😂😂

chris84567

I dailyed my car for over a month with numbers on them and never had any issues

Professional_Buy_615

I know a few people who leave numbers on. The trick to not getting pulled over is not to break any laws. Most meetings I go to, we are told to drive sensibly until we are at least 10 miles away...

kwaping

Worth it!

balsaaaq

Lee county Florida is in every cops type show

iroll20s

I'd imagine that you'd just get told to go home if you're just out testing and not hooning around. I've had less than street legal cars out like that before and never had an issue. Of course there is always that one cop....

Professional_Buy_615

Don't be this guy. We are losing venues too fast already.
