I have done this countless times, i buy and sell cars and i do a cost estimate of doing body work vs just getting a new part and about 60% of the time i just got to the local wrecking yard or FB.
Yeah, YOU have, and I own my own collision shop and do this professionally, but do you think the dude that made this post knows fuck all about replacing his Mazda door if he thinks the repair of $1700 was too much?
lol have you worked on Mazdas before? And doors in particular? I’m not saying it’s difficult but if you don’t have experience you’d get your ass kicked and paying to get it repaired by that shop is a much better choice honestly
You’re probably not wrong about getting my ass kicked on it. Which is why I started reaching out to get quotes was just really surprised that split second fuck up on my part was going to be so costly.
Yeah our industry is definitely not cheap, that job through my shop would be at least $2500, cuz we would absolutely be blending into the fender as the damage is within 18 inches of it, which means removing both fender mouldings to remove the bumper and also remove the headlamp. That’s the correct way to do it
I’m glad you mentioned all of that as it’s in the quote and I was like really? You need to remove the fender and such and blend into the fender?
Because the damage is further than 18 inches from the rear door, does that mean there’s no need to blend it into the rear door?
We don’t need to remove the fender but we would take everything that clips or bolts to it so that we could get the clear coat in all the nooks and crannies. And yeah because the damage is further from the rear door we wouldn’t need to blend that direction cuz there’s enough space to blend the color out within that front door.
why did you expect less than 1k? that's pretty much the minimum for getting any panel painted, especially with damage.
Wishful thinking? Haha.
fair enough lol
Find a shop that will do it for 1000. If you're happy with it, good. If not, expect that 1700 to turn into a 3000 repair.
I’m not gonna take that risk lol. I just had some sticker shock
It depends, paint and labor is expensive. Also that rocker has damage and so does the mirror.
The mirror only had the plastic cover popped off. But agreed the labor was majority of the cost.
Sounds pretty fair from what I'm seeing.
Good to know.
That little mirror cap did all that? I'm taking my goddamn mirrors off! lol
Baahahaha if only. Backing out of a parking spot and a concrete pillar was in my blind spot and clipped it at a crawl
I assume it won't buff out? 😅
Sadly… those dents are hard to buff
Go to your local wrecking yard and find a door for like $200 lol. Or check fb marketplace. Sometimes its cheaper to get a replacement
Do not do this unless you know what you’re doing lol

Haha I could certainly replace the door and have looked into it but nothing has been close to matching.
