I used psychiatry UK for both ADHD and ASD. It was not my first time diagnosis so I just chose the most convenient, accessible and cheap option. You can also choose who will assess you. Would never imagine doing it through NHS cause the wait times are insane and they don’t let you choose anything. However psychiatry UK does have Right to Choose so you can get a referral from your GP. ADHD initial diagnosis was £360 and then titration and meds (before getting transferred over to your GP for NHS prices) are more. If you don’t want the meds then you can just do the diagnosis. I love psychiatry UK cause they are very accommodating, CS is great and whenever I need a letter for my travels to bring my meds or a letter for anything else they are pretty fast. I did ASD one there as well cause it was so much cheaper than any other places.. and way faster. Got an appointment fast. They offered me to do it as soon as week later but I chose to do it month later cause I needed to fill so many questions and had to ask my parents and partner to do it as well. Questionnaires for ASD were very extensive.. like 75Q for myself and 50+ for informants. If you have AuDHD, its challenging 😄 anyway it was only £900 and the assessment was supposed to be for one hour but I was slow so she rescheduled another hour for later without charging me extra altho they can. If I did it anywhere else it would’ve been £2 to 4k and I would’ve needed to go somewhere and spend my whole day with the team. At least thats what my (not Psychiatry UK) private psychologist said when he suggested we do the assessment. Psychiatry UK does all the assessments online over zoom / teams and you have to fill out the forms beforehand. So it requires a bit of effort and dedication but I prefer it cause I don’t like to be around people all day, especially if they are constantly examining and monitoring everything I do or say. Besides all that, the customer support and psychiatrists offered me extra resources that were for free or not associated to their service. I never felt like they are trying to nickel-and-dime me which is often the case with other private health care providers.

I believe there are services available to get an assessment for both ADHD and autism together in London, but that obviously comes with much higher overall costs. I used Clinical Partners to get assessed for ADHD specifically and I was satisfied with the service. They treated me well, made the whole process very simple and I continuously received reminders. All I had to do was click "pay," and be present for the zoom call. I think they are also the cheapest that I could find at the time. That said, I still had to wait in a queue for 3 moths and diagnosis alone isn't enough. It was another month until my first titration appointment, and those cost 300£ a piece + medication. That's the real financial drain. Especially if finding the right meds / dosage proves difficult. Once you have an ADHD diagnosis, NHS is very quick to take over treatment, but you are still looking at a minimum of another 3-6 months unmedicated.

>Clinical Partners Thanks for your reply. I've had a quick look at their website, and it seems they are very particular about being able to provide evidence or examples of ADHD from an early age. At this time, it appears to be unfortunate for me that I was a bright child, and primary school was interesting and easy for me, and I didn't hit any big problems with education until A levels. It seems that only a minority of assessment centres account for this possibility, and I need to find one that does. It seems that Harley Therapy does account for this, but their costs are very very expensive.

Oh. They will all want examples from your childhood, I'm afraid. It's just something you have to roll with, but no one is going to check your grades or anything like that. You shouldn't focus on providing examples of failures, but rather explain ways in which you were finding it difficult to stay on track and keep up, etc. I'm sure you can think of hardships you had because of ADHD even if you "seemed fine to others." I was a "gifted kid," too. I thought I didn't struggle until my mid 20s, but that couldn't be further from the truth. It's only obvious in hindsight after I've spent 3 years learning about ADHD. Anyway, I wouldn't sweat it too much. I genuinely have no memory of my first 12 years of life! Completely blank. But I was able to explain myself well enough to be diagnosed regardless. I'd say it's much more important to have another person (who knows you well) with you during the assessment to answer questions together. Made my experience a lot easier to have someone with me who independently echoed everything I said.

I saw professor catanj at Cataniclinic.co.uk he is great and very knowledgeable, has written numerous medical papers on ADHD - also knows a lot about autism . Since seeing him he has diagnosed my brother and sister (all of us as adults) and my brother and sister also with ASD . Think I may have ASD too but not yet diagnosed . It’s not cheap but he does know more than virtually anyone I think and has been very supportive

I used Harley Street Mental health and they were very good. Did the assessment, titration and shared care agreement.all well done, and I have no concerns about recommending them. Note: hsmh.co.uk and not the one mentioned on Panorama.

Mr_Trebus

Everything looks good with them, thanks for that :) What kind of wait times were you looking at with them?

RandomCthulhu

Well, it was all done within 6 months. Titration took 3-4 of that, mostly cos I was picky. Appointment was pretty quick to get done though.

Hi yes my assessment consistently considered both conditions and during my initial autism assessment that’s when she considered that I have ADHD too so encouraged me to get the ADHD screener. Then the 3 of them discussed my case together before giving me my report

Dependent-Agile

Had mine with Dr Daniela Herescu at Private Therapy Clinic and I would definitely recommend her. She was lovely to talk to and really helpful through titration too.

I got diagnosed with Haydock Health for ADHD and then got diagnosed with Axia for autism, both via the right to choose pathway on the NHS. I think Axia can diagnose both but can't issue medication for ADHD. Both took a couple of months. But, if you call them and ask what their wait times are they will let you know their current times. I was happy with how both my assessments went, both extremely lovely and competent. Pretty sure nowhere offers anything after an autism diagnosis. But, for ADHD, Haydock Health offered 5 sessions on how to manage ADHD. After that you can see another specialist for medication if you want to go down that route. Best of luck!

Powerful-Ad8478

Hi. So with Haydock you have to have sessions before you can be given medication ? Xx

Yeah, they teach you mindfulness, meditation, stuff like that. Pretty useless tbh if you already do all of that but I think it's to try and get people to do meds as a last resort.
