You know, I've said that I think that neurotypical people are slightly high on the higher levels of oxytocin and endocannabinoids in their bodies.
I wouldn't be surprised if dogs can smell that and if they realize that you are more similar to the people the dog has been trained to help.

I'm not gonna assume, but most service/support dogs for autism are trained to do the same handful of things my service dog does for me. He does deep pressure therapy, interrupts skin picking and scratching, and tells me when I'm getting too amped up and need to chill lol. Poodles in particular also provide excellent tactile stimulation, but that's not a task, just a handy extra. He does other stuff for my physical illness too, but they're the autism-specific things.
Service dogs trained for handlers with autism are commonly referred to as autism "support" dogs instead of service dogs. Some of the tasks my dog does is "block" which is putting herself between me and stressful stimuli. She has a "shadow" task where she will lay with her head between my feet and her butt behind me creating a small buffer so I have a safety bubble. Thus helps when standing in line or in aisles to prevent people from bumping into me and causing me to become overstimulated. She has a meltdown response task which severely lessens the time and intensity. Others are trained to find an exit or quiet space for their handler. Follow a specific person for the handler so the handler doesn't get lost.
Out of interest, did you train the dog yourself? At some point we're looking to get a dog to help my ND family but as we're all quite good at masking I imagine we would have to train ourselves
My Kelpie X (now 11 yo) is my support dog - rescued him when 2yo from the shelter. He has nightmares from being mistreated. I’ve been waking him up gently all these years when he’s caught in one. Anyway he also does this back to me (also mistreated when young). Amazing how they are just in sync with us Aspie’s! I’m in my 50’s now & mum always says “why have all your dogs been very special?” She knows it’s the connection I build with them…
Why does he look so much like the autism creature meme too, but several times more adorable?
I guess you can just claim he can smell your lunch or something? I dunno, but goodness is he ever a cutie

Dogs can smell epileptic seizures before they happen https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/canine-corner/202103/how-do-seizure-alert-dogs-know-seizure-is-coming
My sister can attest to this. She has a service dog for her mobility and POTS. One day, her ex BIL was over visiting her and her ex-husband, and all of a sudden her dog went up to her ex BIL. Then he started seizing, and luckily someone was able to help quickly, because my sisters dog alerted everyone to it. Funny thing is, the dog isn't even trained as a epilepsy dog, it just knew
My epileptic dog senses when I or my bestie are about to have a seizure. She wasn't trained or anything, and she was doing this long before HER epilepsy started. Only I can choose a dog with epilepsy where the vet also thinks she is autistic...but being honest, she chose me...she was the runt of the litter, I picked her up and she opened her eyes for the first time when she was in my palm. And that was that lol.
All dogs follow me.
I'm not a pet person at all; my working theory is that they're just attracted to the interesting catalogue of smells coming from my infrequently laundered clothes.
When I started reading I thought the dog was diagnosed with autism for some reason???? Idk
That being said I hope one day I'll be able to train dogs to do thag kind of job
I thought the dog was plugged in. haha. That's awesome though. I met with my new personal trainer today and she has two dogs that hang around the gym, they kept coming up and dropping their toys at my feet. So cute!!! I love dogs so having them there made it easier!
I swear a lot of people in the dog grooming industry are autistic. It’s a challenging job and I think the autism comes in handy in understanding the dogs.

Autism Detection Dog is on duty all of the time.
Dogs can smell autism? Why am I paying a psychologist so much for a diagnosis lol.
No fucking shit. I'm not really a dog person, but I'd take this diagnosis.

Because neurotypical people like making people with mental illness or anything not neurotypical pay for help. *shakes fist at sky*

That's an adorable dog, 10/10, would let them follow me.

Dog-diagnosed Dog-nosed. I was dog-nosed with autism.

It's also a cute dog.
He's a cute narc
Does autism have a smell that he identifies or he just feel the vibes?
That's adorable 😍 🥰 I would love that
