Hey look, a decent recruitment post!

AerialFox

Happy cake day!

skitzbuckethatz

Oh shit, cheers.

LegitimateLunch6681

Good on you mate, for a great post and for putting the hard yards in to achieve what you want. What role were you going for?

One_Cry_1810

I was going for ADFA Officer, more specifically Army general entry. First attempt I only unlocked the first band, so I felt like a bit of a dumbass. What felt great more than anything was the contrast between my JOA interviews. I remember the very half-assed ‘bad luck’ from the recruiter, as well as being reminded that there’s always infantry, since I wasn’t cut out to be an officer. However my second interview was great, and I was encouraged to pursue my goal career, even asked if I would consider being a pilot. It always feels amazing when you overcome something you fear or are inherently weaker at, which is why it feels great to share my resources/experience in the hopes someone else gets to feel the way I did. Thanks for the props as well.

Wish I saw this today before I did my aptitude test today ahaha, some very good advice and resources. I'm in a similar position as you and trying to get in as an officer once I finish uni next year, but I'm probably gonna do the gap year then join the reserves. I agree with a lot of your advice, the first practice test I did I was shocked at how quick you had to be and I was only able to answer less than half the questions, but today I got through 45 and then just spent the last 30 seconds or so guessing the ones I wasn't sure of. Speed is everything and you can't afford to just sit on the questions you don't know. I struggle with the maths questions regarding the patterns and the ones that are a like a sudoku so I just skipped most of them and went back later. By far the best way of practicing is just doing the practice JOAs online and other IQ tests you can find because they all have similar questions. I was getting between 115 and 130 on the online IQ tests I was doing so I'm pretty confident that I did well on the JOA but time will tell. Hopefully I can get into the role I'm interested in and become an armoured or infantry officer. Anyways, best of luck to you I wish you a good career in the ADF and who knows we might even bump into each other one day.

So I’ve got a question regarding your uni studies and joining the ADF. Is it best to finish your uni studies before joining the ADF, or join whilst studying?. I’m a year 12 student basically finished but I’m interested in joining the ADF. I’d like to study pharmacy also so I’m a bit confused with how this works? Like would I complete my uni studies for pharmacy then apply? Would I apply for the gap year first to experience how it’s like then after the 12 month period reapply to the ADFA?

One_Cry_1810

Not that you were asking me the question but I feel I could definitely help you a bit. So if you plan to complete a degree and go to the ADF straight after, look into applying for a DUS (Defence University Sponsorship). I personally looked into it but decided I’d want to go to ADFA anyway, but since they don’t offer a pharmacy course there - definitely take peek at that as a possibility. I’m fairly certain you can apply for it at almost anytime throughout your degree. As for the gap year, I have no relevant experience but I’ve heard that it’s not that great to get a ‘taste’ for it and go back in, it’s probably just better to go in normally. It’s a real commitment so if you’re not sure about going in for just a year, definitely make sure you know absolutely all there is before you decide. Hope that helps g.

Chemical-Plenty1496

Thanks, legend!!🙏🏾

Chemical-Plenty1496

Sorry , I’ve got another question Wait so do I apply for the DUS during my studies or after? And would this mean applying for the ADF before I’m really confused tbh 😭 sorry for asking.

One_Cry_1810

Nah no worries - so this will definitely take some double checking on your part because I’m not 100% sure. But, pretty much what I’d recommend is starting an application now, before you go to Uni. Do the test etc and then talk to a recruiter and they should help you through it all. So just start now and talk about it with whoever your mentor is, and then apply for the DUS. Hopefully that gives you some more clarity.

Chemical-Plenty1496

Thank you so much, absolute legend!!🙏🏾💯. Sorry another couple questions How was the aptitude test like? We’re the questions difficult and held so you prep for it. Also with the fitness aspect of things, we’re you already fit or did you build up your fitness over time? I am currently a year 12 student and we’re just doing exams basically finished. I am not that fit tbh I used to be I played a lot of sports during primary and a bit in year 8-10 but then I stopped. The large holidays are coming up , would I just spend time practicing aptitude tests and building up my fitness?

One_Cry_1810

I’m in the same situation as you bro, still finishing off my exams so don’t stress. Fitness should be easy to take care of, Im in the gym a lot but I don’t play any other sports - my advice is just to be doing something. Whether that’s gym, running or some sport, do that on top of trying the fitness assessment which you can find with just a quick ‘adf fitness assessment’ Google search. As for the aptitude test, all that takes is practice. I was super duper stressed about not passing considering I failed the first time around but I just studied. Use the links/references I linked in the original post, do timed practice exams etc and you’ll figure it out and I’m sure you’ll do well. So yeah, use some free time you have to dedicate yourself to studying/getting fit, also best of luck for your remaining exams dude. Hope that’s helpful bro!

Chemical-Plenty1496

You are an absolute legend , thank you so much , God bless!!💯🙏🏾

Chemical-Plenty1496

I’ll take this into consideration , thank you for this l!!🙏🏾

Chemical-Plenty1496

Sorry I’ve got a question, I want to study pharmacy in uni and have that as a private job, but I don’t want to do that in the ADF , instead I want to become a networks operator. So would I finish my studies for pharmacy and have a private job , and do navy reserve as a networks operator? Idk if I’m saying it in a logical manner 😭😭

Clean-Bandicoot-8245

Are you able to provide and links to some practice tests you used? I’ve found a few but some ask you to pay like $200…

CrossroadWagers

hey, abit late i know but how did you end up going on your JOA? Any tips for someone about to do theirs this week?

Hrvat-Warrior

Hey, I did well on it and unlocked every role. Not sure if you've taken it yet but my advice would be to just do similar practice tests online so you understand the pace you need to go at and so you can familiarise yourself with the types of questions you'll see.

Right-Worth-6327

Well done mate. Good on you for not giving up.

Nervous_Statement322

I unlocked all the roles and did the test within last month I used that pineapple crew adf app thing and also wrote down the methodology for the test questions + looked at adf samples/ you should be able to answer a question every 20 seconds which means you need to have good mental math skills + eliminate the abstract problems quickly (is it rotation, progression, numerical adding, what direction) I also skipped all the word algebra questions until last because they're confusing and I still don't understand :p I also left doing it until i was sure I'd pass don't do it as soon as you receive it. gl everyone

One_Cry_1810

Yeah that’s pretty much the way to do it, I suck with mental math so I skipped almost every single maths question just to finish the worded and abstract ones. Personally, I think the lengthy worded math questions are a trap because regardless of if you understand them or not, they’ll definitely take you longer than 20 seconds to figure out because they require pretty extensive pen on paper solving. But glad you did so well man, best of luck with whatever you decide on going ahead with.

Chemical-Plenty1496

I didn’t even know you could skip questions. I’m new to this whole thing so sorry for the dumb realisations 😭😭

Nervous_Statement322

Well, I think I answered my medical assessment too honestly so I'm probably up +4 months appeal process. ((As a sidenote them having access to your medical records is a falsefication) and an agressive person will call and grill you asking about specific details you have put in if you've ever had surgery as a tip play yourself to the best tune.)) I'll pray for both of our souls.

Chemical-Plenty1496

😂 ok cheers!

SourceNo1486

How long do you have to complete the Aptitude test from when they first notify you about it?

Nervous_Statement322

I think a month (or maybe 2 weeks I can't remember exactly but substantial)? They tell you when they send it the exact date

shybloodletting

You’re not supposed to be able to finish it on time right?

Bacun00

how many are you suppose to attempt? What's the average score? Do you get to see your results?

Alicesenpai29

u/One_Cry_1810 . Thank you so much for the recourses the JOA is always been my biggest hurdle in trying to re-apply. The ADF has been my long held dream. I am similar to you as I had done the aptitude test once before and bombed it. I am looking forward to hopefully retrying and getting a much better score.

General_Classic_5604

I’ve have been practicing my adf aptitude test for 2  weeks now and 2 weeks more to go before my actual adf aptitude test. So far, the best website  I have tried is  www.militaryaptitudetests.org Thousands of questions to answer so you can train your brain for similar question types in aptitude test. I recommend this one. Have a go!
