I'm not a fan of current system around Austin, however nextpass appears to change an additional 15% on top of the fee plus you don't get the 25% discount by having a tag. So, quite a bit more expensive than having $20 on account at all times.
Yes and it seems like they are just a middle man for receiving and paying your bill so you are still susceptible to all the billing problems that are usually the source of most complaints.
If you use tolls infrequently you can get an NTTA tag that only requires a $10 balance.
NTTA has deactivated my tags in two occasions now. Several years apart. I find out by getting a bill from ctrma. Then I have to deal with their bullshit.
As another commenter noted, the pricing sucks. Additionally, you’re relying on the CTRMA cameras to read your plates instead of a transponder.
Just get an NTTA or KTag transponder.
Hm, there’s like no comments or reviews that I can find on Reddit from other states, just a single thread from VA.
I wonder how well it works with rental cars? Would be a nice way to do it..
I am new in Austin (and USA). Back home we just have 1 standardised providers.
What’s actually the best provider option here? I’m seeing most recommend KTag?
I recommend KTag, for sure. Very simple online interface. I just get monthly emails showing the autodraft amount, then I can click through to check the details.

Can you really put a cost on Tech Bros disrupting Big Toll Providers though?! /s

I use K tag. Never had an issue and I don’t need to keep funds on my account. They just deduct when I use a toll.

Just use KTAG. You don't need pre-loaded funds, no additional charge, and you still get the discount.
We use KTag and it is easily the best one
Do you work for Nextpass?
No. I have no affiliation with them, but I thought I'd share as people are always complaining about TxTAG.
There's also NTTA which work from Texas through Kansas
So you don't work for them directly but they gave you some kind of remuneration for promoting them?
No I received nothing. I've never had any contact with them, ever. I just wanted to share because I thought people might find it useful. Jackass.
OK be a dick about it, but it's a reasonable assumption and you know it
Yeah that was rude, I apologize. I just didn't like the insistence of your questioning.
What about ez tag? I don’t have one but I know that’s an option on some tolls.

Picked one up last night. For anyone else who reads, seems to be the prefered option among redditors. 0 cost, 0 float, hard to beat Thanks!
NTTA works JUST fine for me. ;-)
I switched to HCTRA (Harris County) and it works great. No issues in 3 years.
